“Good but very expensive”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

The hotel is big but it offers privacy (we had booked a beach villa). The decoration is nice although less authentic that other hotels in the islands such as chateau de feuilles. The food is good (especially the breakfast). The Thai restaurant is also really nice. The other one is not so great. You have to try the barbecue (served in the villa or on the beach). Amazing!!! The only drawbacks are the prices (400 Rps for a simple dish - fish and string beans). Also, the hotel is not so central if you want to visit the island of mahe around 1h away from victoria.

“Saffron Restaurant is delightful”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

my boyfriend and I took our first trip together and we decided to stay at the Banyan Tree. Funny enough we were convinced that we would find better food outside the hotel at a more competitive price, however, Banyan has it all....even the making of a great Thai restaurant called Saffron that is to me a must!

I would try and get there before sunset as it also has one of the best beaches i've ever seen, so romantic, have a drink at the bar and followed by dinner at Saffron.

“Great for afternoon tea!”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

Sadly, we aren't wealthy enough to stay in this luxurious resort that features some of the best service we've ever seen in our life. But we managed to get in to enjoy a nice afternoon cup of tea looking over the sea. The tea itself was excellent and they offered a huge variety of it. We were even given a small plate of macaroons to savour whilst we looked over the beach. Our indian waiter always wore a smile on his face and attended to our every need. He even took a photo of us and showed us to the rather distant loos. Overall, a fantastic experience with great value for money at a breathtaking resort.

“Paradise in Paridise island”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

We spent a week at the Banyan tree in a beach spa villa which should have been enough to discover any downfall, but to tell you the truth beside maybe a sushi night where the rice was watery we have not found any!
The staff was always paying attention to detail, going the extra mile like preparing and delivering to the villa some fresh purees for our baby, offering advices, etc. In one word making you feel at home.
The villas are also great! Comfortable, quiet and well furnished.
No really we have only one regret: Our stay was too short!

“Disappointing for lunch”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

We'd been on Anse Intendance all morning which is possibly the most beautiful beach on Mahe, and decided to have lunch at the Banyan Tree. Access is via security point where we were met by two very friendly and helpful security guys who ordered us a buggy for the 5 minute ride down to the hotel.
On first impressions, the hotel is architecturally beautiful, quite colonial in design. The welcome was pleasant enough....after that it went downhill a little.
15 minutes before we were given a menu. Another 15 minutes for order to be taken. When my drink arrived a 50 pence sized clear plastic piece of wrapping was floating on the top (no big deal-just a piece of plastic-but not acceptable). We ordered smoked salmon sandwiches which were entirely average-2 small pieces of lettuce leaf as garnish. I had to go to restaurant reception to ask for napkins as none supplied, 20 minutes after asking for the bill it arrived.(and bearing in mind there was only us and another couple there) Exorbitantly expensive, but we knew it would be. Then credit card terminal wasnt working. Another 20 minutes before this was rectified. Left slightly bemused and incredulous. Banyan Tree was one of the hotels we considered booking before we finally chose the Kempinski. On the basis of the £50 disappointing lunch im glad we made the right choice not booking here.
