“A perfect spot for the beginning of our honeymoon”
Reviewed 25 March 2010

We absolutely loved Mt Engadine. We flew there the morning after our wedding and were so happy to arrive at a beautiful, quiet, relaxing spot. Our room was beautiful- we had small balcony, a fireplace and a sitting area and were able to enjoy the view as we were on the second floor. The area is beautiful- we enjoyed hiking every day we were there. (A car is a must here, if you want to hike trails that aren't directly next to the lodge.) The food was great- we loved the breakfast, the afternoon tea and the dinners. Our favorite though was the lunch! They had home made trail mix, yummy sandwich makings, snacks, fruit, and cookies. The sandwich bread was homemade and delicious and oh, the whole grain mustard. Anyway, we loved it- we saw several moose and a number of beautiful birds. The crisp air was wonderful (we live in Hawaii, so it was a change). We enjoyed it!

We stayed at the end of August for 4 nights and absolutely loved the area and the lodge. Our hosts Chris and Sheri-Lynn were extremely gracious and helpful with answering all our questions about the area and day hikes etc... They are professionals.
The lodge was very clean, comfortable and homey. All meals were included (full breakfast, pack lunch, afternoon tea service and dinner) and the food was fresh and delicious and healthy!
We were in the Moose Lodge room, which from our deck, had a view of the moose that would come every morning and night to slurp mud water from the area behind the lodge. We even saw a baby moose cross the stream behind the lodge as well as many moose and white tailed deer and beaver during our stay.
Sound proofing in the rooms was OK, but people were quiet for the most part.
The lodge has a full library of hiking books and books on the area available to borrow.
We found the communal meals to be fun and interesting as everyone would share their stories from the day's adventure and discuss plans for the next day- compare notes etc...
We found the clientele to be like-minded as far as their interest in the outdoors and adventure.
Very peaceful, relaxing comfortable place to return after a days adventure. It was the highlight of our trip to Alberta. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

When we were planning this trip, originally we were going to stay in Banff and after a day trip to Banff, all we can say is we are sooooooo glad that we sayed in Canmore at Mount Engadine. Very much an escape/getaway from the usual day to day drudge.

From the moment we arrived until we left we were treated superbly. All the four members of staff we met were extremely welcoming and friendly - making us feel really at home. The food was absolutely bountiful, nutritious and delicious; and our room was more than very comfortable. As for the location, it was simply stunning. We felt like we could have just sat on the large balcony-like deck and drunk in the view all day... We actually went for a walk from the lodge and that brought more incredible scenes. Staying here really was the highlight of a 3-week trip full of wonderful experiences in Vancouver Island, Tofino, Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff (and several other places inbetween). There was just something extra-magical about our time here. Thank you to Shari-Lynn, Chris, Carol, Colette and the mooses for making it so memorable.

This place thoroughly deserves all the awards and recommendations it gets. We stayed for six nights in the Owl room which had the best views of the snow capped mountains rising above the meadow. The room was very spacious with a huge handmade bed and lovely locally produced toiletries in the bathroom. The rest of the lodge was very homely with tasteful furnishings and paintings by local artists on the wall. Meal times were always a sociable and enjoyable affair spent chatting to the other guests about their hiking adventures that day, rushing outside to the deck together to photograph the moose and sampling the delicious home made and plentiful food. Evenings were spent either lounging around the log fire and reading the various good quality books or sitting in the hot tub on the deck and admiring the stunning scenery. The staff were superb - fun, friendly and very accommodating. I simply cannot recommend this gorgeous lodge highly enough for a memorable and relaxing stay.

What can I add to the glowing reviews of this place that hasn't already been said? Well one thing is: believe the hype. My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon trip from Vancouver to Calgary. We stayed in the WhiskeyJack cabin with its own bathroom (as i think all the accomodation has now) and balcony overlooking the valley. Mt Engadine is well known for its moose, and they didn't disappoint, appearing in groups of 3-6 most mornings and evenings to entertain the guests. We awoke one morning to a moose just a few yards from our cabin door which was quite an experience! I cannot speak highly enough for the staff - the personal service (everyone knows your name), the food, cleanliness is all excellent. The setting is magnificent, and the lodge itself is full of character and is such an enjoyable place to chill out in the evening. Its a piece of paradise (and I heard many other guests say just that during the trip!). Chris, Shari-Lynn, Amanda and the rest - you obviously really know what you're doing here, thanks for an amazing stay. We'll be seeing you again one day I hope!

  • Liked — The staff - every one exemplary in their role at the lodge
  • Disliked — Nothing - it was as close to perfect as I can imagine

An awesome experience - sharing a real live meadow with it's rightful owners - the moose, deer and birds.
The lodge's deck was a great place to spend time basking in the beauty of the mountains adorned with the lingering ice and snow of winters past while watching the parade of bulls, cows and their calves coming to mire themselves in the bog and suck up the nutrients.
The room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and supplied with all we needed. The balcony was a great place to rest after a full day of hiking. No TV or cellphone access provided great opportunity to read, talk and listen to the silence without interruption.
The wholesome breakfasts supplied more than ample nutrition to fuel the days' activities. The "brown bag" lunches were perfect for picnicking on the sideof the trail or the edge of the lake. The afternoon tea and snacks were ideal for holding us over to dinner. Dinners were wonderful - full of great flavours and spiced just right. The fresh baked breads, rolls and muffins perfectly complimented each meal. It was great to talk with the Chefs while watching them prepare their offerings.
The always available staff were fun, friendly and very informative. The Managers Chris and Shari are awesome! Chris' local knowledge and suggestions to make the most of your day was like having your own personal tour guide.
A truly awesome, refreshing and enjoyable experience.

We stayed here for two nights in July, and my only regret is that we did not stay longer! The lodge is a wonderful place to relax and unwind, and a nice alternative to the busy, more touristy areas of Banff and Lake Louise.

As other reviewers have reported, the location, facilities, management and food are all excellent. The moose do, indeed, come and feed in the morning and evening, and there is an abundance of ground squirrels (that look like marmots) peeping out of their dens.

Highly recommended!
