Tastefully decorated with high-quality furnishings sans bling or drowning the instant gemütlichkeit that's so often forced on Alpine vacation lodging. It doesn't feel as if you're staying at a mass-market resort, hotel/time-share, etc. but rather it feels like home...i.e., you'll wish it WAS your home - your permanent home. We looked forward to returning there after every day spent exploring the Salzburger Alpine region. It could easily host 8 people (3 families/couples) and has all the mod cons you could desire including sauna - ideal for entertaining, too. Easily accessed by car in all seasons + has underground parking, and elevator. Excellent location -- just a few minutes walk to the ski lift, hiking, restaurants, bus stop, and within 40-minutes on foot to 3 different alms. We enjoyed the beautiful mountain views, sauna, and the balcony for dining and napping. Very peaceful town and area - nice to be able to sleep with windows open.
We stayed for five days in the summer and enjoyed the apartment in Hinterthal so much, it was lovely, tasteful and cozy. My favorite spot was the balcony. You can see amazing views of the mountains and a ski lift. It was great to sit on the balcony with my coffee. I also enjoyed the views rights from the sofa. There are many amenities like the sauna, two-person tub, walk in showers, 3 TVs. Bed were super comfy and we had a quiet sleep even keeping windows open.
Outside, after a 5 minute walk over a footbridge on a stream, we ended up on well-marked hiking trails or visited local restaurants. Driving further down the Hochkoening valley we hiked to other towns’ high-mountain ‘alms’ or family-run pubs/restaurants serving home-made food. We saw many mountain bikers as well. Kids loved Jufen with the playground, zipline and reindeer. Quite a reward for a hike!
Supermarkets in nearby Maria Alm and Salfelden towns are open until 7 pm or 8 pm. The unit manager will gave us the keys was super helpful in answering our questions. We can’t wait to return!
