“Beautiful Views”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

This is an excellent value for the price, in a lovely rural section of Tuscany near Montepulciano. The grounds and building are fantastic, and the service excellent for an 8 room property. The junior suite was large and spacious, but could have used an upgrade to the furniture (and more of it). The WiFi service was spotty and the best results were obtained on the lounge on the top floor. As mentioned by other reviewers, you need a car and this will enable you to explore the countryside and the other restaurants. The view and pool area looked amazing, along with the outside veranda. The large suites at the end -- with two BR -- are incredible -- size, views, and fit and finish. Huge living room and BRs and great for a family or friends travelling together.

Room Tip: The large suites are an excellent value with two BRs

What an amazing villa this is! We were staying for our belated ‘honeymoon’ trip and it was so romantic. If you are traveling as a couple for a romantic getaway, I recommend trying to book room 1 or 2. These rooms have a Jacuzzi tub, four poster bed and amazing view of the valley and Montepulciano on the hill in the distance. There is also a common living room area to relax and have a glass of wine after a long day of touring.

Language can be an issue here. You can definitely get by, but the owner and all hosts do not speak any English. However, we found that hand gestures, facial expressions and lots of smiles got us by just fine.

Definitely eat here at least one night! Dinner is only 25 Euros per person for a fantastic 3 course meal. You don’t have a choice of what you eat, because each night dinner is made based on the ingredients found at the local farmers market. That being said, we ate there for 3 of our 5 nights spent and were not disappointed once. The food was superb and the Villa wine excellent! As well, the breakfast buffet included in your stay cost is varied and bountiful.

This was the perfect place to stay for day trips in and around the Montepulciano area. Perfect, romantic base camp!

Please note: The Villa was difficult to find, even with a SatNav. You are best to plug in the map coordinates to the accommodation in order to get there. We have an updated system and it still wasn’t on the map. However, the approach to the villa, and the view from every angle, are worth any extra effort to get there.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 have amazing views! They are extremely spacious and have romantic four poster beds.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights during a 10 day holiday in Italy, mostly spent in Tuscany. If I planned our trip again I would definitely have extended our stay as in addition to the places we visited (Montepulciano, Pienza etc), Relais Villa Grazienella would have provided a great base for places further afield and was definitely the best value for money of all the places we stayed during our 10 day trip.

Things we loved ...
* Location is stunning, romantic and relaxing with beautiful views across the vineyards.
* Not too difficult to find (we used a google map and hotel directions, not GPS/Sat Nav)
* Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming
* Room was simple but spacious and comfortable with lovely view (I think room 4 at front)
* Fantastic pool - very large with plenty of sun loungers, deck chairs etc
* Great food - 25 Euros for 4 courses

Things that could be improved
* Sharing / explaining dinner menu in advance - We ate out in Montepulciano on the first night as when we arrived the staff did not know what the menu would be for that evening and we were unsure what it would be like. It was pretty much the same situation the following day but on the recommendation of other guests we decided to go for it anyway. If the menu could be printed (even in Italian) on the morning and shared with guests it would be a much easier decision.
* Vineyard tour / wine tasting - this was not offered but would have been enjoyed by us and I'm sure many quests.
* Shower - temperature pulsed up and down a bit and shower screen a bit awkward to get in and out - also got in the way of enjoying a bath as it was opaque and blocked out the light from the room.

Room Tip: Rooms at front have the best views

We chose this hotel for our first holiday in Italy, largely based on trip advisor reviews and it's seemingly excellent location within the Tuscan Countryside.
We were not disappointed!
The frattoria and hotel stand atop a hill, with distant views over vIneyards and olive groves of Montepulciano and other lovely old hilltowns. The views are stunning, and the only sound is quite liable to be birdsong or on occasion the distant grumble of a tractor laden with freshly picked grapes.
The staff, the rooms and public areas are just fine, but a word of warning - the set dinner errs on the side of colossal, and if the lack of choice and size of portion is an issue for you, be prepared to drive a few miles in order to find an alternative dining venue.
That said, we would love to return. If tranquillity and rural beauty are your thing then this is the place for you.

We stayed here for a week in August 2013 as a family with our daughter. It is a very lovely building set in a great setting over looking countryside, rolling hills and vines. It is really rural, in fact quite tricky to find unless you have carefully programmed your sat-nav in advance.

The room was very plain but also comfortable, the beds were fine, we slept very well helped by the rural silence. The bathroom had a rather exotic shower with all sorts of side sprayers that the girls liked.

The pool is beautiful and a decent size, down the hill from the main building and a very quiet, there isn't a huge amount of shade but it is a lovely place to swim at the end of a day trekking round medieval hill towns. It was really hot (high 30s) while we were there so it was very welcome.

We ate in on three evenings, there is no menu so 'you get what you get' but they were really helpful in providing special menus for my wife who doesn't eat pork. The food was as good or better than the local restaurants we went to, and you get masses of food, too much for us.There is nowhere you can walk from here though so you have to drive if you don't eat in.

The wifi was a bit dodgy which drove my daughter a bit dotty but otherwise everything was lovely. If we return to Tuscany we may well stay here again.

Stayed here for 4nights, had a large room overlooking the vineyards. Staff really helpful, great pool. We ate in every night so that I did not have to drink and drive. The food was good and was different every night, the wines were good value and you can taste them every night before dinner which they did not charge for. they charged 25 euros for four courses and the wine started at 5 euros for a white wine, we drank the red wine and spent 12 to 16 euros a night for a bottle. There is large pool with plenty of sun beds and shade. We will go back again very central for seeing different parts of Tuscany and Umbria

Room Tip: If you want a large room book a suite there are 4 of them, it is very quiet so it does not matter wh...

What a surprise! We booked our room by looking on the internet. I thought we would be staying in a quaint farmhouse. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a first rate, five star, villa. It is absolutely beautiful! The view from our room was so tranquil and lovely. Our daughter sat for the longest time by the large window in our room looking out at the beautiful view. The room was like one you would find in a five star hotel in the USA. The staff was very welcoming and accomodating. We had the dinner that was offered and it was outstanding! A great value! We were served antipasto and champagne, a three course dinner, wine, and dessert. It was delicious and served in a very elegant room. The cook was Patricia, the manager of the villa. After dinner we sat outside drinking wine and watching the stars. It was so quiet and peaceful. The only bad thing was that we had to leave after only one night. We could easily have spent a whole week there. (The wine from their vineyard was delicious also.)
