This is a lovely hotel, nice and clean and bright. In its own grounds, off the main road and about a mile from Vidauban town. The strange arrangement is that you are expected to be "out of the hotel between 11am and 4pm" and "back in the hotel by 11pm, else you are locked out!". This is a unique arrangement, unless you know otherwise! I managed to agree with them to let me "sleep in" between 11 and 4 rather than trek out in the midday sun! I felt that I was an inconvenience to them!! I was a paying customer! They offered to cancel my booking ... after I payed them in advance and moved my stuff inside the room! Where else was I going to find a room at the last minute?! The room was lovely and spacious but without air conditioning made for very hot / sticky nights. The wifi worked on and off.

I travelled to Vidauban for the third time in two years and stayed at La Fontaine for the first time. While the hotel is very clean and the reception friendly, it has an incredible policy to have a curfew. At 23h the gates and doors of this hotel closes and you are not allowed to come in later or you'll have to sleep in your car. This is totally unacceptable! Also the breakfast was very poor (only choice was cheese or marmalade) and cost 10 euro! Never again at this hotel!

We booked online for 3 nights as it appeared to be a reasonably priced hotel within easy distance of the coast. We arrived on a very hot afternoon – almost 40 degrees - to find the front door locked at 3.15pm. We had noted on their website that check in was 4pm but assumed we would be at least able to access the lounge area if not our room a little earlier. We had to then drive back out to town to find an air-conditioned café and wait until the hotel opened. On our return we were dismayed to find that the rooms are not air-conditioned and incredibly hot. The owner did advise us that it would cool down in the evening and that we could leave our window open. She did also warn us however that they had an unusual amount of mosquitoes this summer.

Hotel itself is clean and the rooms of a standard in keeping with their 2 star rating. Despite it being peak season there was only one other couple booked in. We had a less than memorable dinner in town rather than eat in their empty restaurant. They did have free wireless internet which was accessible in the dining room downstairs.

After an uncomfortable night we asked for a refund for the remaining two nights. Although very polite we were advised we would need to pay a “penalty” of 40E as we had booked thru expedia. We paid and moved closer to the coast at another hotel which allowed us to check in at 9am without any additional charge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the busy roundabout. Traffic noise if you sleep with the window open

Very nice hotel in a lovely part of France. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The room was perfectly clean with good ensuite. There was an issue with the showerhead the first morning, but once we told them they were apologetic and had it fixed by the time we got back to the hotel in the evening (a sign of good service). The restaurant was a rather unusual blend of German, Indian, and French, but worth eating there.

Very pleasurable stay, with no complaints.
