This guest house was a true gem to find. The owners, Jim and Shirlene were fantastic hosts and made our stay relaxing and special. We stayed in many other places but this was by far the best. it wasn't too expensive but was off the main road but well worth the effort to find. Our driver was also comfortable with his accomodation and meals. Everything was clean and beautiful and the gardnes and view magnificent. This is a must stay at place if you go to Kandy!

We booked for two nights and ended up very much regretting that we hadn't planned a longer stay.
The setting amongst the hills and paddy fields is beautiful and deeply relaxing - perfect after the bustle of Kandy, which is just half an hour's drive away. We loved simply reading or taking tea on the verandah overlooking the luxuriant garden and listening to the cicadas.
Our room on the ground floor was comfortable and well-designed, opening directly onto our own section of verandah complete with cosy wicker armchairs.
Shirlene and Jim are superlative and very caring hosts - more like being welcomed into the home of old friends. They have a chef who comes in specially to cook for the evening and he offers a good range of Sri Lankan, Fusion and Italian cuisine. We also thoroughly recommend Jim's scrambled eggs for breakfast!

We would love to return!

Bougan Villa is absolutely outstanding!!! If you are looking to relax, then this is definitely the place to stay. It also makes for a fantastic romantic getaway!!! Families would love it too!!
I am a hotelier by profession and I must say the food and service here is excellent!! You wake up to the sounds of Budhhist monks chanting and birds chirping/singing. We had a CD player but didn't even use it as we enjoyed the serenity - we were actually enjoying it so much we forgot about music or television!!
Excellent rooms - the beds are very comfortable
My partner and I stayed here and we originally planned to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying 4 nights!! And we still came back in between our travels around Sri Lanka. After our stay here, all the other hotels paled in comparison!!! And that is why we chose to stay here again before we left Sri Lanka.

Shirlene and Jim are excellent hosts and they felt more like family! I am definitely recommending this to everyone!!

We stayed at Shirlene and Jim's lovely new Bougan Villa guest house and restaurant.....Very homely with personlised service...

As it was september there was a little rain but that added to the ambience of being in a rural setting with lovely paddy fields and misty lush surroundings....A great relaxing base to see kandy and surrounding areas....

The rooms were a good size all off the main veranda with great views.....
The food was amazing with a real international menus incl thai and Italian but we stuck with Sri Lankan fare and was not disappointed....
This colonial styled guest house is well priced with excellent food...a little hidden gem..a pool is looking to be introduced in the near future which would be a great addition...
We really enjoyed ourselves pity we could only stay one night...

Arrived here after a rather long drive from Colombo - but what a retreat! A one night stay is just not enough to take in your tranquil surroundings. The (3.5 hr very long and bumpy) ride from the airport straight to Kandy is made worthwhile when you experience the peace, quiet and wildlife around you at Bougan Villa. Don't expect to be able to walk into Kandy town from here, the villa is a good way away and up an even bumpier very steep hill ... but really, why would you want to when you just have to walk out of the villa gates into lush green countryside and meet villagers going about their everyday business. Give Kandy town a miss there is nothing charming about it. Noisy, polluted and generically uninteresting. Unlike Bougan Villa - serene, peaceful, impeccably clean, welcoming and absolutely great value for money. And don't pass on the offer of their part-time chef cooking up a very tasty Sri Lankan 4 course dinner for you. Everything at Bougan Villa is just delightful.

We were thrilled to find this beautiful and quiet guest house - Shirlene and Jim have created a wonderful retreat in a great setting and went out of their way to provide anything we needed. Every detail was perfect, from the table linens to the great coffee, handcrafted furniture, and perfect bed. The house is beautifully designed and it was a pleasure to just sit on the veranda and enjoy the setting. We look forward to a repeat visit.

This was our first stop on a months long tour of Sri Lanka and what a welcoming experience.
We arrived in the dark and our first glipse of the spectacular view was a memory that will stay with me for some time.
Shirlene's and Jims hospitality was excellent and the food was amazing.
Rooms were spotless, large and airy. We loved having breakfast and afternoon tea on the balcony.
