“A great base for a lovely area”
Reviewed 7 March 2013

We spent a week at the Stern on a Voyages Jules Verne package. A rather odd choice for them, given that they mostly aim at the mature couple market - and this is most definitely a family-friendly hotel. Our stay coincided with the French half term holiday and there were 30-40 children (mostly junior school age) with parents on ski packages. For us, this created a great atmosphere - but if you hate kids, steer clear! Our room was good, food plenteous and of a high quality. Our semi-pension package included not only a good breakfast buffet and four course evening meal (with two or three choices for main course), but also a supply of drinks and a little something-to keep-you-going at around 4pm. Free wi-fi connection, play areas (inside and outside) for the children, petting animals, a wonderfully friendly and helpful staff, all presided over by Rene whose pride in his long family tradition of running the Stern is almost tangible. The hotel is on a south-facing plateau and gets sun for most of the day. Plenty of walking, much of it easy, a supermarket across the road, free postbus to Innsbruck on an hourly service. All you need is the snow and the sun - which we were fortunate enough to have unbroken for a week.

This is a very well run child freindly hotel. Could not fault the staff or the food that was freshly cooked and plentiful. I marked it down to 4 stars as it does not cater quite so well for adults without children. A small lounge area to relax in during the evenings would have been most welcome as there are few options nearby.

A traditional Tyrolean family friendly hotel just outside Innsbruck (35 minutes by bus to the door) which caters for all tastes and ages. Nicely appointed rooms and an owner (Rene) who goes out of his way to ensure you have a good time. It is located directly opposite a large SPAR shop thereby catering for any additional needs that you may require to complete your holiday. The meals are delicious and varied and very tasty. The rooms have been updated (Room 105 is recommended) and there are varied activities each day -often at no additiional cost. Although we are an older couple, the presence of children at the hotel was no drawback at all. Wi-fi worked without any problem in the room. Buses into Innsbruck are every hour and a free bus pass is often included in the package. Well recommended- the walking around that area is brilliant- and do not forget the funicular in Innsbruck.

Room Tip: Room 105 has good views and a bath

I stayed at this hotel for a week in March and was very impressed. The food was plentiful and very well cooked, the staff were excellent and very friendly, the rooms were comfortable and there was lots on offer. It is a great hotel for families with young children as there is plenty organised. A guest card is offered when staying here which offers free transport on buses and ski buses in the region. The bus stops are directly outside the hotel and you can get a bus direct to Innsbruck in approx 50 minutes. The sauna / relaxation room on the top floor are wonderful but be prepared for nudity of both sexes. There is wifi on the ground and fourth floors. The only downsides were that the room was a little gloomy (low level bulbs) although it was spacious and comfortable with a balcony and en-suite. Also, Obsteig is a very quiet village, although it offers beautiful alpine walks. There is a very small ski school/slope in Obsteig which is suitable for children or complete beginners. Also on offer is cross country skiing and tobogganing nearby.

Room Tip: The third floor is the quietest floor. The first floor has a kids play room so can be noisier.

OK, the interior (furniture) is a little dated, and there is no wi-fi.
BUT, rooms are clean, more than big enough and breakfast is super !
The hotel also has a very good restaurant.
