We were staying at Riedl for right after New Year’s Eve, what is called in European Alps – the high season - prices are the highest during the year and it is quite busy with tourists.
From the first moment we arrived, it seemed that this Hotel did not really care if there are any guests at all. We had to wait probably about 15 minutes in an empty reception and restaurant area trying to find someone around to check us in.
Parking is absolutely horrible: very few spaces on an asphalt ground, so if you are not back early enough from skiing (i.e. have to miss on all the après-ski fun) – you will have to park on a stony ground behind the car park. If it is snowing a lot and is a bit warmer and you are not driving a 4-weeler jeep – you get stuck like us and need to arrange an evacuation service yourself. Hotel could not really help us with that.
Food is ok (quite a nice afternoon snacks buffet, however you would need to come back from skiing before 4pm or so to make use of it as it). We were really disappointed with the restaurant staff! As if you are eating at McDonalds and the quicker you get out the better. All waiters seemed to be stressed, in a hurry all the time, no personality whatsoever as you would expect from a family run Austrian hotel.
Rooms are good: clean and neat, quite spacious with high ceilings, but nothing special in terms of design. Very simple. Liked the balcony though, overlooking the main ski lifts and the mountains.
The best thing about this hotel which at least a little bit compensated for negatives above – is a sauna area!
Very good saunas, feet Jacuzzi, absolutely amazing quiet area with comfortable beds to relax after sauna, I I absolutely enjoyed a nap in a “hay room”, free tee and cold drinks, nuts and fruits – all at a level of a very good 4 star hotel!
Hotel is not very pricy and the location is great: main ski lift is just 3 minutes car drive or you can jump on a bus (stop next to the hotel) or even walk over the bridge (probably 15 minutes or so). Supermarket and cash machine are just around the corner, which is very convinient if you wanna grab snacks, drinks!
If the service and attitude was a bit friendlier and more caring, if the stuff in the restaurant showed a bit more interest in guests and took a bit more care – we may come back, but for now we’d rather stay somewhere else for our ski vacation.
