“Poor afternoon tea”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

I purchased a groupon voucher for afternoon tea for my husband and I. We first had to choose our sandwich (not a selection as expected) when they came it was 2 slices of poor quality thick bread cut into 3 rectangles. The scones were rock hard with no butter, just jam and tinned cream. There was one cake and 1 shortbread biscuit each, both tasted shop bought. All in all a total waste of money even at half price.

this was the third time we stayed in this hotel as we loved everything about it plus the staff are very friendly.however on this occasion we stayed at a different end to the hotel our room had squeaky floorboards and very thin walls.we were very unlucky to be next door to a couple who were on a sex marathon and this went on for hours.in private not a problem, but as the walls were so thin we did,nt want to hear it.we did complain to Tania the following morning, who said we should have asked for another room, but when we arrived we did ask about staying an extra night but were told that the hotel was fully booked so it would have been pointless to ask.our advise is book a room in the main building if you want a quiet night.sadly we wont stay again.

Room Tip: book a room on the quiet side

A lovely break away, friendly staff, good quality breakfast and evening meal. Afternoon tea on day one was lovely and fresh with a good range of fresh cakes. Would recommend the hotel for a mini break or a wedding, as we have experienced both on two separate occasions.

Very accommodating and helpful staff. Comfortable and pleasantly set in a rural location. Roman banquet was very interesting and enjoyable. It was included in the package but it may not be worth £35 per head.

Attended wedding reception here recently and stayed for one night. Food at reception was very good, as was the service. Our room was nice with a lovely rural view. We had a very tasty breakfast. My only complaint would be the paper thin walls. Every time someone used the toilet in the adjacent room and also the rooms above, you could hear everything! We had a good night's sleep although a couple of guests complained that they had had a terrible night due to the noisy air conditioning - at least that's what they put it down to. We heard some noise but not enough to disturb us. We stayed in room 6.

Visited The Wroxeter Hotel after seeing a Groupon Offer "Afternoon Tea for £17 for 2 people" - usually £34. I checked the hotel website just before leaving to obtain postcode and a bit disappointed to learn that if I'd just booked direct it was £16 for two people! So the groupon offer was just a con??? The food was never worth the money - not enough savoury. Staff were friendly and décor was nice.

We thought yes this sounds nice - 25th Silver Ann away with a Roman Experience, we arrived nice looking hotel with nice grounds... Had to wait at reception as nobody around.. went up to our room (via the smell of paint all away up the stairs) .
However room was clean and in good order, few loose floorboards, but hey we are away for two days, so lets make the most of it.
Went down for a drink in the bar.. rang the bell on the bar and waited 20 mins for someone to come along and serve us. Think that should have warned us for the time ahead!
Spent evening out in Ironbridge - try the Tai or the Malthouse Bar both lovely places for food.
Woke up on the first morning, plenty of hot water, really nice bathroom so my wife states.. and she should know (she has travelled the country). went down for breakfast.. honestly that was the worst full english breakfast you had ever seen. cold sausages, the skin was white and the inside was cold. the rest was just about fit to eat. Excuse we received was don't worry there will be a different Chef on tomorrow..

Spent the day out.. and returned to the hotel looking forward to our Roman Feast, met some lovely people in the bar as we all waited for someone to turn up and serve us...

We all went through to the room set up, ok it was a themed break.. so what could go wrong you ask? lol what a night.. I have had food in some of the worst countries in the world, but honestly if you are going to provide a themed Roman Feast at least learn how to cook first.. yes I accept in the Roman times they may not of had certain flavours but at least they had spices, which may have helped the Wroxeter Cook.

I was not going to write this review, but as nobody from the hotel really seemed bothered about their guests, then honestly don't eat there.. Stay there yes... can't complain about the rooms..

Just the service and food..
