Back from a two day break at the Wroxter Hotel, booked on a Wowcher deal.
On arrival, the Hotel looked quite impressive, set in it’s own grounds in a very picturesque rural setting. We were checked in by a pleasant receptionist who explained that we had been booked in for our 3 course dinner (Part of the Wowcher deal) on the following day at 6.30pm. We were allocated room 23 which was on the first floor in the old part of the building.
The room was adequate, but appeared rather dated, with a very high ceiling and a tall, narrow window that wouldn’t open properly. The room looked down onto the corrugated roof of the extension below, which was not particularly appealing.
The old fashioned looking furniture comprised of a single free-standing wardrobe, two small bedside tables, a hardback chair and a large wall-to-wall laminated shelf, which housed a small flat-screen TV and electric kettle. TV reception was a bit tricky, with a two pronged “rabbit ears” type TV booster plugged into the TV. The bed was comfortable albeit a bit small - not sure if it was a double or a three-quarter divan, as we’re used to a king size at home.
In contrast, the bathroom was fairly modern, with a lowered ceiling with fitted halogen spot bulbs, bath, washbasin and WC. We did have a problem though, with no hot water on the second morning, and we were told that the boiler had unfortunately failed, despite being repaired just weeks earlier.
Having looked at the dinner menu, we decided to eat in on our first night and we were very impressed with both the attentive staff and the quality of the food, which was served in the Conservatory dining area.
We enjoyed the full English breakfast both mornings and the 3 course dinner on our second night was very good indeed.
All-in-all it was a fairly enjoyable stay but parts of the hotel do need to be updated.
