“Comfortable resort in serene beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014 via mobile

We got on to the bus at about 9pm and reached the hotel at 3am. The bus drops at the hotel. Comfortable, large rooms and a decent spread breakfast. The beach is beautiful with crystal clear water. Secluded. The town is closeby that we cud travel by a bike taxi for 1000kyat. Hotel food is quite good with decent rates. Only downside, if you looking for any sea activity this might nit b the choice

We were here after traveling around Myanmar for a while so it was a great getaway. The drive from Yangon was a little rough with the last hour winding through the mountains after 4 hours before on bumpy roads.

BOB room was very spacious even with 2 kids under 5 running around. They gave us a crib free of charge with the mosquito net. However the extra bed they charged us $30/night.

The bungalows were booked so we got the second story room facing the ocean. You could peek through the numerous palm trees to the beach. Our room was next to the pool and it does get warm in the afternoon with the sun. This is especially a problem when they shut off the a/c from 8-11am and 4-6pm. My kids get all sweaty taking a nap from the heat even with the doors and windows wide open.

There are multiple connecting pools. They offer tubes and canoes for the guests to use. The beach is clean and relaxing. The water was warm with the sand soft after you walk through a little rough patch. The waves are small since there is a chain of reef that break the larger waves farther out.

The 'town' is pretty small with a few restaurants and shops. You could rent bikes at the hotel but aside from the beach there isn't much else to do in the area so it was very relaxing.

We took a trip out to the elephant camp about 10 miles (25 mins) from the hotel. These are logging elephants in training with all of them under 16 years old.

We ate at the restaurant West Point almost daily (since we were traveling with locals). The breakfast was good but I can't comment on lunch or dinner at BOB.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel on Feb 2013. The hotel rooms and services were perfect. Breakfast was prefect, had more choice. Fisherman Bar of the hotel was great and relaxing, located at the end of hotel, next to tennis court. Breakfast was good, can enjoy a nice sea view and had our meals. Only check in-out process was a bit slow.

Room Tip: Rooms face to sea had a better view.

After 3 weeks travelling around Myanmar, Bay of Bengal Resort was absolutely perfect for winding down before we headed to Thailand. The pool is absolutely gorgeous and the under-rated Ngwe Saung beach also provides a refreshing dip, only steps away from the rooms. The resort is at the very end of the beach and its seclusion is evident as soon as you step on the beach – only the very odd soul and it’s refreshing to feel like you have the whole place to yourself.

The service from ALL staff was absolutely first-class, including the manager, restaurant staff, gardeners, security etc. The resort has a formal restaurant at one end, and a casual ‘bar’ at the other end. The restaurant serves some terrific food for lunch and dinner, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food. We expected a price hike from what we’d had around the rest of Myanmar, but it fortunately wasn’t to be. There’s also a small “bakery” in the reception with chocolate cake, custard, mousse etc.

Our room was very spacious, and as clean as we could expect. The balcony overlooked the rooms in front, but we also had a lovely view of the beach and palm trees. Even though the rooms are in close proximity to each, we didn’t hear anyone else, guests or staff, and it was very peaceful for the whole duration of our stay (4 nights). Wi-Fi was reasonably good, the TV had a whole host of movie/sport/English channels to choose from, books/magazines are available in the business center, and you can change money at reception at a decent rate.

We only had a couple of small issues. First, the breakfast – they provide a great range but food that is supposed to be hot (potato, fried rice, baked beans, bacon) was often lukewarm at best. This happened even when we turned up for breakfast right on 6.30am. But if you prefer fruit, toast, cereal, juice, coffee/tea and/or eggs, there’s absolutely no problem.

The other surprise was no pick up from the bus stop. It’s only 5 minutes away along a flat straight road, so it wouldn’t be a problem for them to pick up guests. Instead, we were told at the bus stop there are no taxis in the area (there are a few) so we loaded our heavy luggage onto two bicycles. We were also charged US $5 for a taxi back to the bus stop when we left – considering the $140 a night for the room, plus eating every lunch and dinner in their restaurant, it was disappointing they didn’t provide that last service.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the pool/restaurant/reception. Let them know when you're arriving so th...

We came with our 13 month-old son.

Although not advertised as being child friendly the service at the hotel, together with the amount of open space made it a very comfortable place to be.

For meals, our son was happy eating a 1/2 portion of the fish fillet meal was great. It wasn't mentioned on the menu, but they had no issue in preparing it and also charging half the menu price. For breakfast, pancakes were not placed out for guests, and they prepared him his own batch on both days. Little details like this make a difference.

Similarly, there is lots of green grass, and several pools which meant he could be a shallower one which was pleasant, particularly when there were other guests having a party in the main one. The whole site is very large, making it very peaceful, even when there are a of guests.

For adults, the hotel was good. It is showing its age: door handles falling off, plugholes that won't unplug, the decking round the pool needs some attention. But these are all minor details, which again the service overcomes together with the location. The menu is very well priced, and between three of us we ate most of the items and enjoyed it.

I would recommend this hotel to parents travelling with young children.

Room Tip: Make sure to book a room that is on the ground floor if you are travelling with children, as it will...

Myanmar is slowly getting with the tourist program. Some things can be a bit frustrating especially expecting 5 star service when you're paying 5 star prices.
BOB Resort is lovely. The beachfront villas are fabulous. The bathroom is outdoor and completely amazing. It's such a luxury. Housekeeping did a great job, rooms were clean and serviced perfectly.
We were a group of 8 plus a toddler and until our last morning, staff would not permit us to put tables together so that we could enjoy breakfast together. No explanation was offered, just a straight "no" when we asked if we could move them.
The resort is a bit too far from the village to walk, especially when it's hot. Certainly, the little village is worth a visit. There's shopping and great eating to be enjoyed.
The beach in front of the resort is totally swim-able and perfect for an afternoon cool down.
It takes absolutely forever to get there from Yangon but its really lovely once you arrive. We would stay here agin but would likely try out another hotel if we were to go back, just to try something different. On a previous visit we stayed at The Palms. Now This is a first class hotel.

Room Tip: Beach villas are the way to go. Great deck access to the gardens and beach.

The hotel is no doubt nice with very cooperative staff. However the rates are high and on top of that they cut airconditioning for 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. They did not mention this during the booking and hence a 5 hours aircon shutoff comes as a rude surprise. As a true lover of Myanmar I really feel sad when hotels do such kind of cheap tactics. This beautiful and amazing country will stop attracting tourists if hotels overcharge and yet try to cut costs on basic facilities.
