“Peaceful tranquility on the Vaal river”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013 via mobile

My wife and I shared a very peaceful Saturday night at Carryblaire! Nice thatched chalet, clean, etc. excellent breakfast.

I did some fly fishing for yellowish, but there was a storm so headed back to a cold beer. Plenty of fish were jumping.

Nice 4x4 trails in the area, hunting too.

Set on a bend of the Vaal River with an amazing view of the upstream portion of the river. Fish eagle cries, Egyptian Geese and the buzzing of the bees in the lavender bush outside our room all help to soothe away the stresses of busy city life. A beautiful place, with lovely rooms. The food was excellent. Lots of places to visit in town or to browse in the antique shops.

Best view of the Vaal river! The dinner was excellent, Dave gave us his personal attention. Room is average, but very cosy. If you looking for peace and quiet relaxation this is the place. Only disadvantage is the lack of activities, thus you need to leave the hotel. Still worth the stay though !

Dave and Tess gave us an incredibly warm welcome and escape from the city. They couldn't have been more helpful and kind while allowing us to enjoy the stunning beauty of the property and surrounding area. The breakfasts were delicious and it was lovely to doze off at night in front of the fires in the lodge with a glass of wine. It was so hard to return to Joburg after a peaceful weekend waking up to the sounds of birds, seeing the stars while listening to the river rushing by, and cooking up a braai with one of the friendly dogs curled up at your feet. It was an amazing escape. I can't wait to return.

Our first visit to stay by the Vaal. Although quite close to Joburg it is out in quiet countryside. Our stay was delightful - with lots to look at and do nearby. Great efforts were made to cater for special dietary requirements - the food was 1st class.

Carryblaire is set on an impossibly beautiful bend on the Vaal River. Dave and Tess have created a haven from the hustle and bustle, and have made it possible to truly relax at a home away from home.

My favourite weekend and even extended long weekend retreat! Whilest the drive cam be slightly rough in a low slung vehicle it is all worth it when you arrive to great hospitality food and views to die for. Wish we weren't so busy so we could go there once a month at least. Nix & Rob
