“A lucky find”
Reviewed 13 November 2012

Returned to St-Antonin Noble Val 15 years after our last holiday there, the town appeared to be very run down and as it was getting late for lunch we happened across the Auberge Basque. How lucky for us the, menu du midi was excellent, the service was superb. Would recommend this restaurant highly

“Not really a good choice.”
Reviewed 14 October 2012

The ambience here was heavily Basque and I am afraid that the cooking was also heavy and not inspired. The stuffed peppers came with fish stuffing and a far too creamy pepper sauce. My lamb was cooked au point, and was gristly and looked as if it had been fried far too slowly..it was pink and watery with no hint of being crisp and brown on the outside. And then we had a great slab of custardy Basque tart. It was not a good experience and not good value for money.

“A cheerful spot in a beautiful village”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

We had a nice dinner in the Auberge Basque. The decor is colorful and lively but once Septeber comes, the village is nearly empty and so is the restaurant which can dampen the atmosphere a little. The food was good overall although the shrimp lacked luster. There is a nice terrace if the weather is good. The service is friendly and enthusiastic.

“Enjoyable lunch in St. Antonin”
Reviewed 25 September 2012 via mobile

We had a really good lunch on the patio here. I had a fish special of tuna with a piperade sauce. The piece of fish was huge and the sauce was tasty. My wife had a green salad with a type of local cheese, jambon ant tomatoes. Again the potion was large and the quality of the ingredients was high. The food and a pitcher of Rose on the patio was very enjoyable.

“Inexpensive, good cuisine, very nice owners”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

It is still a problem if you don’t speak French in France, and a bigger problem in small towns.

The owners of Auberge Basque are a very friendly couple. A real Basque and a very friendly French woman who understands and speaks English perfectly.

We choose the menu of the day and two glasses of wine.

It was a good surprise, the quality of the food, the wine and the price we paid.

Sincerely, in this lat trip to French and Spain, the best food we found in the most simple and cheaper places. This restaurant and in the bed and breakfast we stayed had better food than two one star restaurants listed in Michelin guide.
