“Relaxing, peaceful and lovely”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

We recently stayed at Hammett House for two nights and everything about this place is just lovely. We stayed in a ‘fabulous’ double which was just as it states! The décor was stylish and contemporary, huge comfy bed with velvet soft bedding, Teapigs and ground coffee with a little cafetiere for 2, wrapped flapjacks (Which were yummy!) REN toiletries, super soft bathrobes and towels, you just cant fault it. Little luxurious touches that really make your stay special.

The ambience of the place is so relaxing, from the welcoming bar, drawing room and restaurant to the lovely outside of the house which includes a very peaceful river walk out. Service is top notch throughout with friendly helpful staff, food is of an excellent standard, drinks available are great from wine to cocktails (try the prosecco with frozen strawberry purée as a treat on a hot day, gorgeous!) I didn’t want to leave this place.

We stayed as part of a living social deal and found it to be great value for money although full price of room at normal rate is expensive, food and drinks generally we felt were reasonably priced, expect to pay £40 for a three course gourmet dinner and around £25 for a bottle of wine, £7 for a cocktail, the house menu is also very nice with prices from around £13 to £25, the breakfast menu is varied with a tasty cooked breakfast available, even the sausage sandwich is worth a mention, quality throughout.

Would love to return to this hotel, it is already one of my new favourite places!

As soon as we arrived at this hotel we knew that this was something special, driving through the grand gates and up the tree lined drive certainly sets the precedence of what is to come. The outside of the house is absolutely stunning, a luxury country house hotel set in its own grounds, the river Teifi evens runs parallel to the house and the sound of the trees rustling in the wind really sets the scene. On checking in we were shown around the hotel, and to our room to ensure that we were familiar with the many areas of the hotel and their function. The interior decor of the hotel would best be described as a fusion of new and old, and has been done incredibly tastefully preserving old features whilst breathing new life into this fabulous building also. Our room had to be seen to be believed, this was the most relaxing and calmest stay we have ever had, even down to being woken in the morning by a gentle dawn chorus of birds waking, and with each room being bespoke there is something new to discover on every stay. The hotel is absolutely spotless and I would challenge anyone who has left a review contrary to this. There is a large selection of beverages and a choice of two menus, from reading some reviews the menu isnt for everyones palate but being able to chop and change between the menus I struggle to see how anyone could fail to find 3 courses to suit, and the food here is truly divine and a culinary treat, even the cooked breakfast is prepared and served in such a unique way, the chef has certainly placed his mark on the menu here from top to bottom which was very pleasantly experienced first hand on both nights we stayed. There is a new addition to the hotel which contains a function room and would be the perfect venue for that special day....the hotel also displays artworks from local artists and we fell in love with two pieces, its rare that you enjoy a hotel so much that you take a part of it home with you but we will always have a reminder of Hammet House and we will be certainly returning again. Finally, the service and professionalism of the staff is truly exemplary and it was a real pleasure to see staff that were truly impassioned and commited to their customers and to their place of work, you could really see that they loved working at Hammet House, and this really shone through, from the booking and emails prior to our arrival right up until we checked out the service was superb, thank you to all for making an already brilliant stay really memorable.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a "fabulous" or "outstanding room" for a real treat

I always choose the same type of hotel. I like period establishments with antique furniture and lavish drapes. I chose Hammet house because although it was a lovely old building everything inside was retro and contemporary and it was a chance to try something different. It was exactly as it was described on the web site. Good check in, pleasant staff, comfy en suite and a nice welcome tray with fresh coffee, Tea pigs and flapjacks. We were served afternoon tea in the lounge/bar on a green plastic tiered cake stand whilst sat on clear acrylic chairs. The designer red retro sofas looked very sharp and edgy (shame some careless person had spilled their drink on them) and it all looks very stylish. I can see that the owners are trying hard to make their mark on the place and bring something unique to area. I believe they opened in 2011 and such a large place will take time for them to complete their vision of Hammet House. I wish them all the very best and hope they succeed in their efforts
Sadly it was not for us. We tried but decided we're not the retro neon glowing types. Better stick to what we're use to.

Our second visit and it is impossible to fault any aspect of our stay. This time we treated ourselves to a two night stay and enjoyed a lovely walk into Cardigan, one of the most enjoyable scenic walks we have had for a while. The hosts are amazing, so helpful and obviously want their guests to have a wonderful stay. Staff are exceptional and make guests feel so welcome. We didn't think the food would wow us as much, but it did and chef surpassed himself again! We love staying at this hotel and are already looking forward to staying there again.

Found this hotel on a deal from Secret Escapes, definitely didn't disappoint! If you're looking for a quirky hotel in the unspoilt Welsh countryside, I would recommend Hammet House.

ROOM
We had a 'good' room. Very large with a comfy king-size bed and a lovely view over the gardens. Comfortable sofa to curl up in and watch a large LCD TV. The only thing that let the room down was the bathroom. Was very clean, but you would imagine it to be different from the bog-standard hotel bathroom as the rest of the hotel is so unique, but it was basic. Hot water was also intermittent, but it was warned in the hotel guide that it does take time to get hot.

FOOD AND DRINK
Amazing! We had the restaurant menu on our first night and it was superb. Felt like you were eating in a fine dining venue. The service was attentive and we didn't have to wait long between courses. The bar menu also looked yummy too! The breakfasts are also good, decent amount of choice, whether you want continental or hot. We had the afternoon tea which was delicious, great selection of sandwiches and lots of sweet treats that were made by the very talented chef. Bar was very well stocked, pretty much any spirit you'd like and great selection of teas and coffees. The cocktails were amazing, both my husband and I sampled quite a few!

STAFF
Absolutely brilliant. Everyone was very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We were given a tour of the hotel before we went to our room so we knew exactly where everything was and the lady (I wished I could remember her name as she was so friendly and helpful, recommended loads of places to visit during our stay) offered to get our bags from the car to take them to our room.

FACILITIES
Two beautifully decorated bars, one slightly quieter if you just want to chill out and the other with music playing. There's a den which is great if you just want to sit and watch TV or read a book. Always a member of staff around to take your drink order. You don't get any phone signal whilst you're in the grounds or surrounding area, but the hotel offer free wifi. We found it only worked in the bar and restaurant, but it was quite nice not being constantly on our phones for the entire trip! That's pretty much it... quite lacking if the British weather doesn't behave itself, or you don't mind getting wet!

LOCATION
In the beautiful village of Llechryd, there's lots to do in the surrounding areas of the hotel. Cardigan was lovely, spent the day there and its full of shops and restaurants. We ate at The 25 Mile in the town centre and it was lovely. Also went to the Welsh Wildlife Centre, great if you like walking and checking out the local wildlife! There are some beautiful waterfalls in Cenarth and Cilgerran.

The hotel would have got 5* if it had a better bathroom and perhaps more to do within the hotel grounds as we had one rainy day and didn't fancy going out.

We travelled to Wales for our Easter holiday and chose Hammet House looking for a design hotel, and were not disappointed.
Our room was an interconnecting one with a twin room for our two children, which worked well. The children's room especially had a stylish, yet fun, fit out.
Service at all times was very friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

We ate most meals there and all really enjoyed the food including the children.
The grounds include a river and access to a long river walk, which was lovely and the croquet green was a big hit.

Whilst the hotel doesn't come with the hefty price tag some of the slicker design hotels we have stayed in closer to London, it is still not far off them in terms of fit out and appeal. Some areas such as the rest rooms are still in need of a make over, but the owners have done a fantastic job, as a small hotel, to get it to where they have.
The personal service and evident passion for the business from the owners, were first class.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt we'd found a real treasure of a hotel.
I would heartily recommend it to others and return again.

Myself and my partner stayed for one night last month, we chose Hammet House because of the location and style of the property and we were not disappointed. The house is in a peaceful location, there are beautiful grounds to explore, but the interior is so stylish and welcoming you could not be blamed for wanting to stay indoors.
The staff were very attentive but did not fuss and they seemed genuinely keen to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. The food was fantastic value and absolutely delicious. We would definitely recommend Hammet House to other couples looking to get away and recharge in charming surroundings. We hope to return soon.
