“Top Marks All Round. What a treat of an Inn!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

While working nearby, we stayed here for just one night. I wished it could have been longer and will definitely stay again if I get the chance.

Simon the new owner is an awesome host, and we where greeted on arrival by the friendly atmosphere of the locals enjoying the pubs great selection of ales in the pub and food in the dining area. The menu looked fantastic and was reasonably priced so we also had dinner there. Seriously, if you visit here for nothing else let it be the food. It was incredibly good. I also sampled a few of the ales (in half pints, we still had to work the next day) and Simon was knowledgeable and keen to give insight and tasters of these fine brews.

The room was brilliant. Quiet location, new and tasteful decor that suited the building, solid furniture, high quality bed and bedding, lovely bathroom and all very clean. All of this and extras like; chocolates on the pillow, a dram of whiskey in a decanter with glasses, mini coffee machine with sealed fresh coffee, turned a very good room into a great room. The breakfast was perfect and Simon was very accommodating to our requirements.

Visit here, have dinner, try the ales, stay the night enjoy the breakfast it is time and money well spent and in great company too.

Initially when I booked I was told the pub was closed until, I think, 5pm. As this was November and it's dark and cold by then I asked if we could possibly be allowed in earlier. this was agreed by Nick by email. On arrival went to the door which was open and we were welcomed in by Alan the barman. Room looked nice and good en suite but the bed was rather hard and the room was too hot to sleep comfortably. Had a delicious evening meal and fabulous company at the bar with a couple of locals and Alan the barman who was off teaching ski-ing the next week. Breakfast was also good and the chef great to chat to.

Rude manager and staff, apart from two extremely helpful waitress staff who deserve to be working somewhere better. The building of the pub itself looks very tired and dreary, the rooms seem to have been more recently decorated, however don't appear to be kept particularly clean with dust laying everywhere. The food, despite being significantly dull, was actually pleasant enough for hungry travellers such as ourselves. However we expected more for the money.

Good money wasted on a bad stay. Thank goodness the business payed for it and not my own purse!

I have been visiting this pub for a several years and it is a great pub for real ale and food. I have stayed three times , the last time being recently. The beer, food and staff are excellent but the building inside and out is now looking tired , which is a real shame.

Having visited here on a pub crawl a few years back, I decided to meet up with some friends here for dinner as it's pretty much a midway point for us. We took a bit of a risk as there was no online menu but were not disappointed. I booked over the 'phone and when enquiring about a menu, was told it changes daily hence the lack on online info. On perusal of the menu on the evening there was a reasonable selection of dishes. I had the rustic cassoulet which was absolutely delicious and the presentation of it delightful. My friends also thoroughly enjoyed their meals, particularly when indulging in the the amazing looking puddings which once again were displayed so beautifully it seemed a shame to tuck in!
For real ale and cider lovers there are a number of hand pumps available as well as a few 'different' lagers and at the time of visiting, a porter.
As far as VFM is concerned, it's probably what I'd expect to pay in similar establishments. The meal was excellent though and I left very full!
There is a beer garden available, however didn't get a chance to see it given the time of year.
Parking is also limited as it's basically along the road opposite the pub however it's not a particularly busy road.
I will almost certainly return here, hopefully in nicer weather.

Popped into this 'off the beaten track pub here late on a Saturday afternoon and were welcomed as soon as we entered the place (having not been here for over 8 years). There was a real fire ablaze, over 5 real ales of which we had 2 superb pints - then saw that there was a regular £2 a pint offer which we availed ourselves of, then noticed that there were 3 real ciders on draught too. Heaven !!!

The staff were very pleasant and friendly, the other customers seemed fine and this is what a 'real pub' should be.

We'll find a driver for our next visit and stay longer!!!
