What a pleasant surprise and experience. The Inn takes you back in time to when pubs were pubs and politeness and good manners were normal !! The food and hospitality were second to none and the ales and cold cider very welcome after a horrendous journey around the M25 on a Friday evening. I would totally recommend the Inn, I had the best nights sleep in the best bed ever for some while ! enjoy !

The Hawkley Inn offers great food, welcoming staff and a great location.
The pub is very popular on a Friday night.
The address is a little misleading. The hotel is almost 4km from Liss in the village of Hawkley. It is well worth the trip. Hawley is a lovely village.
The room (Itchen) was recently renovated and functional with a huge ceiling, but out the back door of the pub and required additional lighting.
The one wrinkle with the Hawley in is that it has opening hours for the hotel published on the door. We arrived earlier than expected and could not check-in until the pub opened in the evening.

A beautiful setting with wonderful food and some great beer. The room was very good but was not serviced after our first night. A light was broken for the whole of our stay. These disappointing features hardly detracted too much from an excellent stay but be warned - it is almost totally inaccessible by public transport and nearly 3 miles from Liss!

I used to live in this area long ago so was keen to see if the venerable Hawkley Inn was still going strong. Pleased to report that yes, it is. It is larger now, and with a nice garden, and has boutique b&b rooms, but it has retained its character, the village does not seem to have changed much, and the surrounding walks are as lovely as ever. They have several rooms - we chose the Hambledon which was excellent, and were rewarded with the 2 best nights sleep of our long journey to and from Barcelona. The beer and food are excellent, although I would avoid sunday nights unless you are told definitely that food will be available. There was also a fairly high level of chaos in the immediate aftermath of their beer festival (by chance we arrived on the last night): the place was like the Mary Celeste in the morning until one of the staff heroically came to our rescue and rustled up some breakfast - but apologies were duly made and no harm done: after all it is a free hoose, and would you really prefer to stay in a Holiday Inn? Definitely recommended.
