“So Idyllic.... shame about the cockerel”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Booked two rooms (Monnow & Wye) at short notice and would have been hard pressed to find a more idyllic location.

Kilpeck is a picture postcard village, located about a mile off the main Hereford to Abergavenny road, complete with village green, red telephone box and a giant oak tree planted in 1806 to commemorate Nelson's victory at Trafalgar.

The Kilpeck Inn ( The Red Lion in bygone centuries) poses a question on the bar wall whether or not it is the most Eco friendly Inn in England such is it's attempt to be as green as possible in every aspect of business. It's impossible to say whether or not it's claim is justified without visiting all other Inns (a chore we would happily undertake) but what we can say is that the beds are the most comfortable my wife and I can recall sleeping in. A beautiful mattress and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet cover.

This is an extremely high quality establishment, from the staff, the level of service, the quality of food and the beautiful bedrooms (complete with complimentary toiletries).

The only blemish on an otherwise perfect stay was being woken at 5.30 by the local cockerel who had obviously decided that if he was awake then everyone else should be as well :). He seemed to have a couple of friends close by who joined in the early morning chorus at one stage before the wood pigeons got in on the act as well. It should be said that we did have our windows slightly open for ventilation purposes and my parents who were in an adjacent room with closed windows didn't enjoy the same wake up call.

All in all a lovely (and all too brief) stay at an Inn that we would heartily recommend to our friends

The Kilpeck Inn has been carefully refurbished. Bedroom and en-suite were modern, very comfortable and quiet. Meals and breakfast excellent. Staff pleasant and helpful. Use of a hairdryer would be appreciated.

Leg three of our UK tour from North Cheshire to Kilpeck. Tried to get in to another famous pub/BB "the Cottage of Content" but this was closed on Sundays. The Kilpeck Inn has been recently refurbished and has 4 beautiful modern rooms. We arrived late Sunday afternoon and the place was very quiet. Restaurant is closed on Sundays but we had the bar menu which was fine. Of the 4 days travelling this pub was the best overnight stay of all. Very comfortable beds and superb rain-shower. Beer and bar food also very good. Breakfast next day perfect.
Again a superb country pub in a quiet location perfect for us before our next days ride to Cambridgeshire.

This is a rare combination of a charming country pub which has a cosy atmosphere and retains its village charm while being updated beautifully.
The bedrooms are of a very high standard with great beds and bathrooms. The lighting throughout the pub is outstanding.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the chef produced great food.
We loved our stay in such rural bliss in perfect Herefordshire countryside.

Good food, comfortable rooms, pleasant and friendly service - and wifi. There were 2 large parties in but we were seated quite privately and served on a timely basis even though they must have been very busy. Breakfast not quite as good as dinner. Would consider going again; visit the area quite often.

We have stayed here at The Kilpeck Inn which is in a lovely village setting with wonderful country views. (Good walking country). We had dinner which was very good and they were happy to modify the menu to suit our needs. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Memory foam super king size bed, very comfy. Breakfast was also of an excellent standard, staff very nice and welcoming. In all a very nice stay.

Have stayed here twice in the past month. It's such a pity the actual welcome falls short of what one might expect after a long drive. Probably because it's bar / floor staff that are the first to see u after possibly a longish shift. Anyway no "welcome to the Kilpeck" but hey ho..........
Room perfect , great bed , bathroom etc. Service in bar on a Sunday night fast and professional , friendly as well. Food tasty and well priced , good beers on offer. A lovely place to stay. Thank you.
