We booked into this perfectly pleasant hotel in Ay after reading reviews on TA. Discussed booking the recommended local restaurant (Les Vieux Puits) with the helpful hotel staff on the phone who told us that there was no need to book. On checking in we were told that the restaurant was closed ('it always is on Wednesdays and Thursdays'). After a couple of discussions with uninterested reception staff the owner of the hotel kindly offered us a cab ride to Dizy 'on the house'.

Moral of the story........go eat at the 'Grains d'Argent' in Dizy which is great and also has very nice rooms (which are better value that Castel Jeanson).

If you would like to stay in a quiet village, this is the perfect spot. The town of Aÿ is just 5 minutes outside of the touristy town of Epernay and has narrow streets and little traffic.
The Castel Jeanson is nestle at the top of the village with vineyards just behind it.

The cheerful staff greeted us with extreme courtesy. When we asked about making reservations in town, they promptly called the restaurant for us and made the reservation. (The restaurant "Le vieux Puits" is absolutely divine!)

The hotel is very clean and bright. There is an elevator (although we never used it). We stayed on the second floor in a superior room which was a bit sparse but clean and efficient. The room had airconditioning, a flat screen TV and electric shutter on the windows, and it was VERY quiet - we never heard any noise from our neighbors. Being on the 2nd floor, the windows were high up so our view was just the rooftops. I would suggest you ask for a first floor room for a better view. The bathroom was very large and fully equipped for a person with physical disabilities (not too many of those around when needed). There are champagne flutes and a small mini bar in the room if you want to bring up a bottle of champagne or something else refreshing. There is also a small safe and the hotel has their own locked indoor parking just a few feet from the hotel - a plus for security.

The hotel has a charming corner with stained glass windows. You can also walk out to a lovely wonderful courtyard where you will find the pool and a few tables to relax with a nice glass of champagne.

The buffet breakfast for 12€ is very nice and offers a wide variety: eggs, pastries, cheese, yogurt, coldcuts and fresh fruit. They also put free coffee and tea in the library during the day.

The hotel also offers free WiFi but not all rooms have good reception. We could only get a connection in the lobby due to poor reception in our room.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again as the location was ideal for visiting the Champagne region.

We stayed here on our way down to the french alps. The hotel was very clean and is located on a quiet street in Ay. The hotel is a few km from Epernay, which is about a 12 euro taxi ride but its worth it in order to stay in such a nice and quiet location.

The hotel has its own under cover parking area which is just across the road and accessed by a code pad and automatic door.

All the staff we met were friendly.

The hotel has a nice lounge area, which had coffee and cakes in the afternoon as well as a photo album showing the recent restoration work.

All in all a very nice place to stay for visiting the champagne region.

This hotel is actually in Ay, just over the river from Epernay, but nevertheless a short drive. We chose this hotel for a one-night stop over on our drive between Zurich and the UK.

It is a beautifully converted champagne house, with an attractive courtyard, small swimming pool and efficient and friendly staff (Nadine in particular). There is a locked garage where you can park your car. We booked a family suite - good size, clean with a lovely, new bath and shower room. For some strange reason, the TV image was back to front so reading the subtitles on Sky News was a challenge. However we did very little TV viewing so this wasn't a problem.

We stayed on a Wednesday night at the very end of July, which presumably is a very quiet time, in advance of the September grape harvest. Several restaurants were either closed for holiday or had restricted opening hours, including La Cave a Champagne in Epernay. We couldn't get into the nearby restaurant in Ay so ended up driving into Epernay which is bigger so had more choice. The hotel found us a table at La Table Kobus, 3, Rue Dr Rousseau. We had a great dinner and the restaurant weren't too sniffy about providing a bowl of frites and bread for our two small children. It is not ideal for small children unless they are adventurous eaters! It was very pleasant to sit in a small French restaurant without the traditional cigarette smoke.
The hotel also recommended visiting the Mercier Champagne House (again in Epernay, on the main Avenue de Champagne which had a glass lift underground and a small underground train...this held the attention of our 6 and 4 year old.

A great little boutique hotel. All of the rooms have their own style but are well equipped with modern bathrooms, wireless internet, tv, phone, hair dryer etc. The front desk staff was very helpful in ordering taxis, looking up train times, confirming our dinner reservations, etc. My only drawback was that as we hadn't rented a car, the 10-12 EUR taxi ride between Ay and Epernay became a bit expensive as we traveled between the towns quite often in 2 days.

We stayed for two nights (March 13-15) at the Castel Jeanson in the village of Ay. It was part of a honeymoon trip through Europe. We found the location perfect to explore the Champagne region, close to Epernay and Reims, rather in a quiet and cosy village surrounded by wineyards.

Our reception at the hotel was full of attention and corteousness and we want to acknowledge Mrs Nadia Ricci for all the kindness she rendered us during our stay.

We booked a superior room and got also a nice balcony overlooking the main street. Breakfast was yammy (You should taste the croissant) and there were coffee/tea facilities with cake and crackers in a room in front of the reception.

Everything was special and our stay will be in our most cherished memories.

There are not many restaurans in Ay so you better drive to Epernay if you want to have dinner after 9:00 p.m. If you are in for first class French gastronomy you should taste "la cave au champagne" at the Epernay Village (+/- 5km).

Thanks Castel Jeanson. Thanks Nadia!

We will be back!
