“Terrible service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2013

On November 22 we had booked a room with the manager, Teresa. When we arrive to bacalar and look for the place, his "neighbor" told us that Teresa wasn't here in Mexico. We thought that she leave a person encharge but when we arrive to AGAVE BLUE entrance everything was turn off, without light and no one was ther just two dogs that. When we make a complain to Teresa, she didn't make us a refund. That was a terrible experience.

We spend two nights at Agave Blue and realy enjoy our trip in Bacalar. The place is really beautiful, with an amzaing view of the Bacalar laguna. We stayed on the patio room, directly connected to the garden, with laguna view and only 10 meters from the water. Teresa's house has a private 20 meters long access to the water with a small palapa, hamacs, table and chairs. You are just alone in the translucide water... nobody around, complete silent!
Teresa house is great and she will do all the best to make you fill at home. Brings you coffee and pan dulce on the morning, recommand you some places or just enjoy to speak with you and share experiences. You can also use the kictchen and the fridge if you want.
We'll go back as soon as posible.

My wife and I stayed in the Garden Room for two nights; we will cherish the memories of the Laguna Bacalar and our warm conversations with Teresa each morning.
Here are my recommendations if you are considering staying here (or anywhere near Laguna Bacalar):
--The town of Bacalar is small and unremarkable, except for the fort (Fuerte Bacalar). Staying out of town means you get to enjoy the lake with some privacy. My wife and I spent lots of time lounging in the water, relaxing and enjoying the solititude. Had we been closer to town, I don't think it would have been nearly as peaceful.
--Agave Blue is a great price proposition. The grounds are colorful and filled with plenty of spaces to sit and read, contemplate the beauty of the lake, or to practice yoga/meditation. Compared to the other facilities nearby, it is both more isolated and significantly less expensive.
--During our visit, only the Garden Room was available. It was comfortable and we had no issues whatsoever. I do believe the other rooms at Agave Blue are higher end, so if that is what you are looking for, be sure to ask for that.
--Teresa is a charming host. We enjoyed several mornings of conversations over french press coffee and pan dulce. She offered help and advice which improved our stay and was very responsive during the planning/reservation phase as well.
--A stay here can/should be complimented by a meal at Rancho Encantado (just a kilometer down the road) and a kayaking or nature hike at Active Nature Bacalar (~2 kilometers down the road).
--It's probably best to have a car while you stay here, so that you can go to the nearby restaurants, museums, and maybe even Chetumal.
