“Bandos-Maldives - AMAZING”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

A short get away from Dubai found us staying at Bandos Island and were met with the friendliest and professional staff. The island not from from Male is superb, only bad thing i can say is that I did not wake up on time on first day to get some diving done - snorkeling and diving is spectacular with the Dive shop there being one of the most professional i have ever dived with , well laid out, great equipment and instructors and of course so much wonder to see below the water line - i will most definitely go back and would recommend this place to anyone - great family type place yet it was peaceful and could find quiet spots - FYI the beach villas with hot tub are a must - you will not be disappointed with an outdoor shower, toilet bath - Just go - its worth it

Room Tip: Beach front villa's - romantic, quiet, next to beach, great out door features -

How you will feel about Bandos will really depend on what you're expecting from the Maldives!

This our 3rd holiday in the Maldives but the first with our kids (10 and 13), so it was important to find an island that would offer a good range of activities in addition to snorkelling. We also went full board so we didn't keel over when we got the bill for all those Fantas at the end!

On the plus side Bandos is a short (40 min) transfer by speed boat from Male; the house reef is extremely good; the food is plentiful and very good; the service is good; the rooms clean and well appointed. The island offered a good range of water sports and activities and all the equipment was in excellent condition. We went on a couple of excursions - night fishing (which was included), snorkelling with Mantas (saw 2 - amazing) and dolphin watching (saw around 2000 - awesome!!). We took the private dolphin watching trip and I'm really pleased we did as the resort boat had around 50 people on it.

On the negative side, Bandos is an older and larger resort meaning the architecture not particularly sympathetic to the location and there is a lot of it. There are only 2 beaches of note and hence they are quite busy. The guests are very multicultural, a LOT of Russians, Germans and Japanese. The resort is quite tatty in places, exposed pipes leading out to sea (ick), concrete sea walls and piers in places (to stop erosion, but not pretty all the same). The cost of hiring fins, masks etc is ridiculous so bring your own and the water sports are expensive so temper expectations of how much they will be doing!

All in all a good and reasonably priced (for the Maldives) family holiday. Just be clear what you want from the Maldives before you book Bandos. If you want a romantic idyll, look elsewhere - if you want a family break, this is as good as anything given the price.

After the bustle of a wedding, Bandos Island resort was an amazing source of peace and relaxation. The beaches were pure white, the bluest water I have ever seen and extremely attentive staff who provide a very high degree of service. Additionally, the buffet was fantastic food and there were a range of activities to choose from... Although the bed was so comfy it was difficult to leave it at times. Pure island bliss......sigh.

A little late in posting this, my wife and I visited Bandos In October 2013 for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in a beach villa for 9 nights. We are very familiar with the Maldives having visited seven other islands before Bandos. We have often travelled to other islands by sea-plane, one thing that made visiting Bandos a joy was the short (10 minutes) speed boat ride to the island. The island itself is small, our beach villa was lovely. The food was cooked very well with a wide variety of choice. The main bar was very welcoming with a wide selection of cocktails on offer. My wife and I snorkel and we found the reef very good, we were rather surprised as we had thought being so close to Male it might suffer but we saw turtles, rays and black tipped reef sharks and a wide variety of other fish, the water was a bit rough but it was October so you expect it. All in all a very pleasant stay, it had been a last minute booking but we would definitely go back to this island – it’s a little gem.

So long over due this review! I went here with my husband in December for our honeymoon. We took the speedboat which was fun, it took around 30 minutes. We arrived with a warm welcome (the staff speak perfect English) with a welcome drink and a hot towel, check in was very speedy as it was December I say the best time to go it was hot every day and so quiet! We had our own little beach just outside our deluxe room which was in a perfect location on the corner away from everyone else. And even on the I say main beach obv on a round island here, you had your own area. We felt as if we were on our own little island most of the time! The island overall is just beautiful!!! So well maintain. Everywhere was clean, our deluxe room was big and open, lovely 4 poster bed. Good air con. Big bathroom and huge shower room! Cleaners did an amazing job. They come in around 3 times a day, we never seen them their like ninjas! We would come in and they'd swept throughout the day, drop of clean towels and newsletters and even make your bed for you in the evening. Drop of 2 bottles of water a day. Note that drinks you had to pay extra at lunch and dinner but was included at breakfast (which we only ever got up for once!) so we always purchased large water bottles at meal times to take away with us, hussian the waiter was amazing!! He saw us coming and got our water and wine ready for us before we had even seated. The other waiters could learn from him, they were nice enough but not as good! :p The FOOD WAS AMAZING! I'm abit of a food critic and it was the nicest food we had ever eaten there! the BEACH GORGEOUS WHITE SAND, the BEAUTIFUL SEA LIFE it is just to die for! We went scuba diving for the first time ever you have to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's well worth it, thousands of bright fish, clownfish, 6 FT SHARKS I'm abit nervous of the sharks and just in general in the sea but the lady at the diving centre was truely amazing at looking after us, she gave an amazing tour. I'm addicted to scuba diving now! There is a lagoon near the bar overlooking the sea on the fat side of the island next to the diving centre, there's best to go snorkelling. Don't risk swimming over the coral to the drop if your not a great swimmer! The corals very sharp! And if you touch it you will get fined! Go to the kuda bandos island the beach is amazing and snorkelling too! The dolphin sunset cruise was beautiful, saw so many dolphins and flying fish!!

Tips.
They accept English pounds and dollars.
No need to take your own beach towel.
You can hire out snorkels and flippers, life jackets are free of course.
Go half-board we got up for breakfast once! Lunch is early enough. We eat loads and didn't bother with breakfast.
Go scuba diving if you haven't tried it already! Your in the Maldives so do it! The sharks are friendly enough.

Don't listen to the bad reviews, I'm surprised bandos is only a 4 star and not a 5*.

We visited Maldives for a family vacation with a baby under 1 year
Cot was provided
A very nice location
Stayed in deluxe room which has a seating area and a very large bathroom with bath tub and shower
Room had a large four poster bed
No black out blinds so woke up early due to the sun.
We were on a full board basis so all meals were at the gallery restaurant
The food was plentiful and was regularly topped up
Selection of 2 soups, fresh breads, loads of salad, main courses, live cooking area and plenty of desserts and fruit
I had the opportunity of meeting Tilak who was the executive chef at the restaurant
He allowed me to come back stage and see the cooking that took place
What can I say... Very very clean coming areas
All staff dressed in appropriate attire and well presented
Food stored correctly and all freshly made
We had no stomach problems at all throughout our stay.
Tilak also made pureed food for baby
But we only found out about this on the last day of our holiday
Tilak and his staff provide exceptional good food and I am very happy
They allowed me to come and have a look. Thank you to Tilak and his team!!!
Staff are smiley, especially hussain at the gallery restaurant and the man who regularly cleaned our room.
The guy at the pool area was also very nice and friendly
Did not get the chance to use the spa due to less time
Snorkelling was great.
We rented gear from the dive shop
Was 8 dollars a day
Tried thai restaurant as set menu- expensive but great service and good food
Not much sand at this island but beautiful water and loads of fishes
Saw some sharks also
We had a buggy for the little one and had some problems with using it on the sand so had to pick the buggy up
So bear this in mind when bringing one
Used the sauna and spa. Very clean and nice
Check in was slow- took ages
This was difficult as we were tired and wanted to get In and shower
also little one was due a nap
Overall we had a nice and relaxing break
Thank you to Tilak and his team!!!
And thank you to Bandos

Not wishing to rest on the laurels of our existing achievements, Bandos Maldives had in the past year undertaken a major refurbishment project with the intention of transforming ourselves into a hotel that is truly reflective of the times. Careful consideration however, was given at all times to ensure that the old-world refinement for which the island has a reputation remained uncompromised. Under the project, major facelifts have been given to the front desk, lobby areas, shops, restaurants and bars and have furthermore commissioned a new swimming pool and additional accommodation facilities all of which perfectly blend with the island's tropical splendour and give visitors a taste of the Maldivian aesthetic. ... more   less
