“Saw some mantas here.”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

As my girlfriend and i stayed only three nights in Male city, we had limited transportation options. We asked our hotel management the possibility for a one day excursion and they proposed an organisation which offered snorkeling trips to Banana Reef and the waters around the Bandos resort. In the afternoon they would take us then to a small, unhabitated picnic island where they would pick us up at 5 pm. This was an ideal solution for us backpackers who wanted to feel a little glimpse of the Maldives without paying fortunes in one of the luxury resorts located far away from the airport.

Kuda Bandos island belongs to the Bandos Resort, and offers non-guests entering by safari boat thus the opportunity to enjoy the beachlife in exchange for an entrance fee. Here you can swim, snorkel (bring along your own snorkeling gear! => I saw some mantas here), or rent a water scooter. (Alcoholic) bar and outdoor showers are also provided. You can also bring your own picnic. The only difference with the resorts is that tourists cannot stay over for the night, but the water stays blue and the beach white.

We visited for few hours for jet ski. Staff is not very friendly. Always in bad mood. They should be courteous.

“Picnic and Beach”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Kuda Bandos is a local, uninhabited picnic island in the Maldives. Locals and tourists go here via boat to have a bbq lunch and hang out on the pristine beaches. There are a decent amount of BBQ pavilion areas and a restroom with showers. There are also outdoor showers and a small snack shack. Overall, this was one of the most beautiful beach areas we have been to, and looks like those you would see on the travel channel/ internet searches. Go! You won't be disappointed.
