My husband and I spent 3 nights here and begged for one more but they were already booked up and no wonder: the degree of service here is impeccable, and the grounds are lovely. We had the luck to score the casita right near the water and were here at a time with at most 4 other guests so we had effectively our own private beach for a few days. When it rained, we donned rubber boots and coats (from the amply-supplied gear closet) to go exploring. When we were hungry, we were fed gourmet meals by Matty, an accomplished chef who sources lots of his ingredients from the island itself (=fresh). When we wanted a drink, we swam up to the pool bar.

In short, when we wanted anything, we got it. That's Popa.

Room Tip: we got a casita near the ocean and it lulled us to sleep every night

My husband and I recently stayed at Popa for our honeymoon. The hotel's location is a beautiful paradise about 40 mins away from Bocas town. We felt as if we were staying at an extended family member's home but with the luxuries of a big resort. Everyone knew our name, kept us well feed, and helped us book activities off the island. At times, it felt as if we were on our own secluded island, which made for a very romantic honeymoon. The pool is amazing, the beach is clean and uncrowded, and the staff is friendly and very fun! This hotel is very special and won't disappoint!

My wife and I spent several days in Panama, and 3 days / nights at Popa Paradise. You might be suspicious of the unusual high rating for the hotel, but I can tell you that it is deserved. You are 40 minutes away from anywhere by boat, yet you still have most of the conveniences and amenities of home. Internet, A/C, Dish TV, a swim up bar in the middle of the jungle is pretty unique. Dyllan will answer all your questions about the resort, how it was built, about the generators, solar cells, rain-water collection system, etc...It is remarkable that a place like this was built in the middle of nowhere. Yes, it does rain, but we had 2 out of 3 beautiful days while we were there. Guests felt free to grab their own beer / wine if the bartender was doing errands elsewhere. We were not too adventurous, but did do the jungle hike and the Kayaks to the reef to snorkel.

Food: The food was good, breakfast was a small buffet, with eggs cooked to order. Lunch is kind of on your own schedule, but I usually defaulted to a fish and a chicken wrap sandwich with fries. Dinners were usually fabulous - fish, chicken, steak and pork options. Soups and sides - I definitely did most of my eating at dinner. All the wines I tried were great, the beers were OK, local beers - but didn't have a light option - so often I'd default to a cocktail.

Technology: Internet near the clubhouse was reliable and strong - no problems at all. We had brought a prepaid unlocked cell with us for the City, and had purchased a SIM Card for Claro, I heard that Popa Paradise may have a system booster that works with +Movil (Cable and Wireless) - so you should purchase that SIM card if you need one for your travels. However, we frequently and successfully used the free App VIBER, and it worked great calling home to check on the kids.

Staff: The staff all have their own unique personalities, and all were great helping and interacting with the guests. Nicole wouldn't bat an eye if you asked for another drink, Darien (sp?) could always entertain you with his plans for future improvements on the property. Handre was great on suggesting trip ideas, and preparing us for the adventures.

Rooms: Our room was great, it overlooked the beach, and was very private. You would get a few random bugs / lizards, but nothing shocking. Shower was surprisingly hot and powerful for being a rain-water collected shower (they have 100,000 gallon systems through the island - it rains frequently) Wife and I made it home from this trip with only 2 bug bites - compared to where we've been in the past, we were pretty amazed how few mosquitos we encountered. But we were warned to stay out of the path of the leaf cutter ants - they don't like it when you interrupt their business and send the soldiers after you.

We went to Popa Paradise in April 2014. You have to fly out of Albert Brooks airport (Domestic airport in Panama) to get there (Bocas Del Toro). It takes about 1 hour. From Bocas Del Toro, it is a 30-40 minute boat ride. Depending on the weather, it can be calm and beautiful or rainy and scary. We experienced both!
Once there it is Heaven and Paradise! Dylan is so nice and helpful. His staff was very, very pleasant and accommodating. We didn't want to leave! Dylan also upgrade us to our own suite for our honeymoon! We loved the room and location, away from everything but close to the beach! Dinner is served a little late, but you can have drinks and wait by the pool. The food is fresh, local and amazing!
Popa paradise is PARADISE. Just book it and you won't be disappointed.

We enjoyed our stay very much as it was like visiting friends. The hotel is in a private and secluded location, far away from the busy streets in Bocas main island. The food was very healthy and tasty. The staff was very friendly. The beach was clean and we enjoyed it as there were few other people there, so we felt it like it was our own private beach. The day tour to Zapatillas islands was well worth it. Would recommend this place for people who want a private paradise to relax, and for the ones who enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving.

Dyllan, Darion and Handre here is your long over due review from alan and sandy. My wife and i spent 12 wonderful days in Panama in early march and by far popa was the highlight of our trip. From our arrival to our departure 5 days later it was like spending time with family.
Dyllan and company makes everyone feel right at home and he knows how to run a resort . The water and snorkeling in nearby coral key is amazing. Take the day trip on Captain Handre's 38 foot Catamaran and you will feel like King for a day with a sumptuous lunch of fresh fish caught off the boat
open bar and great day of snorkeling cruising and lounging. The staff is incredibly friendly as are the resort dogs (great touch }The accommodations are rustically elegant ant the climate perfect if you like 90 degree days and 75 degree evenings. It was paradise after below zero days in chicago. The food was great and fresh, the drinks were plentiful and the wine was more than good. All and all a fabulous vacation experience!!. We cant wait to visit you again.
