All the people at La Biosfera were great to hang out with and talk to. They are only just beginning but I would really recommend stopping by if your near Esteli, Jinotega, or Matagalpa. One of the people showed me the cloud forest bat cave and showed me all around. A real family like environment.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- La Biosfera Reserve & Retreat is a volunteer supported initiative in forest preservation, clean water cultivation, and poverty alleviation. It features an earthbag lodge, compost toilets, recycled truck tire belts stretched over 400-yr old zapotillo wood bunks, camping, glamping, libraries, telescopes, board games, puzzles, art supplies, temescal, plunge pool, trails, waterfalls, cave, alternative healing therapies, some philosophy and astronomy orientation, and great meals. Targeted to the somewhat budgeted, it should be noted that it is a project with a rotation of volunteers, apprentices, and occasional tourists; as such, travelers should treat it as an educative adventure or retreat from the material world, rather than a 5-star resort. ... more less
