We would highly recommend this fantastic cottage. The booking process was smooth and the owner extremely friendly and helpful from the beginning. On arrival the cottage was a delight to explore and proved to be a everything you could want in a holiday home. The house is full of character and offers great views across to Penhill. The weather in March was surprisingly good and we even managed to enjoy a coffee on the balcony without being cold! The property is well equipped, especially the kitchen. We stayed in most nights to cook and it was honestly the best equipped kitchen we have ever encountered whilst on holiday. The boot room was handy when returning muddy from a walk and the general standard of the cottage was very high. Can't think of a single negative. A delight to stay in during colder weather as the cottage is surprisingly warm for an older property and you can make good use of the log burner. It would be nice in warmer weather as you could sit out on the balcony or in the garden and enjoy the view. Will certainly return.

Preston Under Scar itself is a small and friendly village to stay in with some interesting walks from the village. Leyburn and Redmire are within walking distance and there is plenty to see in the local area so it was nice to not have to drive very far from the cottage each day.

The cottage is beautiful especially loved the kitchen which was very well equipped. Views are stunning from the balcony and back bedroom. We had a great family holiday with lots to keep the kids entertained without having to travel too far. The neighbours and locals were so friendly as are the owners Jenny and Bruce who couldn't do enough to help. Locally would recommend the walk through condenser woods to the tea garden, Redmire falls and Castle Bolton. Lovely walks and great cycle routes from the door, will definitely be back.

The cottage feels as charming as it looks in pictures. We had an absolutely lovely stay in fairly mixed weather. The views and trips all around were very special. The village itself is very lovely with very welcoming people. Many thanks indeed for a lovely holiday.

“Lovely holiday in a lovely house!”

The house was spacious, had lovely furnishings and the view to Pen Hill was marvellous. The garden was very nice to sit out in and was dog proof and the balcony from the sitting room was an added bonus. The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped. Everything was as described, even the excellent wifi reception.
Preston under Scar is an excellent base for exploring Wensleydale, Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Cotterdale. There are plenty of walks, wonderful driving routes and Castle Bolton is well worth a visit.
I would highly recommend Campbells in Leyburn, 4 miles away, for groceries and an excellent selection of wines!
