We stayed at Acheron Cottages in May, 2014. Our cottage was lovely – as all the visitors book entries attest – and Zeb and Janice are delightful, helpful, friendly hosts. This was quality accommodation, close to Doubtful Sound, and highly recommended for a very different experience from staying in an old, dated unit at a Te Anau motel 20km away, for the same price.
The cottage is very well laid-out with an L-shaped open-plan, spacious kitchen / laundry, dining and living area with comfortable furniture; wo bedrooms (one double, one with twin beds) and a good-size bathroom. Excellent heating: heat pump in living area, and an instant wall-mounted ‘heat fan’ well-placed in the bathroom. As my husband had just completed the Milford Track unguided walk, the large washing machine (with soap powder and pegs provided), as well as outside clothes-line and a portable drying rack were so so useful. For families, there is even a children’s toy / book box under the TV.
Sitting inside, with the cosiness of double glazing and the sun streaming in on a lovely late autumn afternoon, gazing at the views of the mountains across the intervening farms was incredibly relaxing. We would definitely go out of our way to stay here again if visiting in the same or wider area and recommend it as very much worth a detour.More
