“Didn't get past first base”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

I first contacted this company about transport into deep cover on the 8th of july 2013, and I asked about ransit time to plan my pre and post journey. They responded on the 13th but did not answer the question about transit times. I contacted them again on August the 27th asking for a quote and other details. Having received no reply I contacted them again on the 30th and got a reply saying nothing could be confirmed, but still not answering my simple question about about transit times from te anau and back (to plan the rail trail trip etc we were also planning). I was later told a sales rep would now handle the query. Today is the 3rd of September and I still hadnt heard so I emailed saying it was too late to book and that I was intending to complain here. Two staff rang and explained that not only had people had been off sick but that a reply had been written but lost when the server went down. all fine but too late for me - stuck with a bust ticket to te anua but too tight for time to do doubtful sound.Very very disappointed. No address for complaints either is provided on their website.

“Very Good Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2013

Paid $215 pp for this day tour to Doubtful Sound. We were worried that the rainy day would ruin it but it made it all the better!

-Bus picked us up at Top 10 Holiday park @ 8:45am
-Arrived to Manapouri and boarded first boat @ 9:45am
-Crossed the lake by 11:45am and boarded another bus which took us to another boat.
-Lost track of time and made it back to Te Anau by 5:30pm!

The tour included free coffee and tea on both boats. First bus was particularly amazing, with the most comfy seats I've ever sat in on a bus and windows on the ceilings. The second bus was a generic tour bus and it is unfortunate the nicer buses were not across the lake.

The boats were high quality, which shelter from the rain even on the outside decks. We purchased sandwiches from the cafe prior to departing, but similar food for the same price is available on the cruise (it actually became half price during the last hour of the cruise!). We would recommend just buying what you need vs the 15 dollar lunch that you can preorder. Remember that on the boats it is cash only.

Commentary was witty and informative. The sound was incredible. The Captain took us right up to a waterfall and we were given cups to fill with the water that we could drink! I was not expecting this.

For winter is was not really that cold, but thankfully there was a ton of indoor space as we had about 30 passengers (the boat can take up to 150, so we had a great time and tons of space). Be sure to wear something water proof. The sound was misty but we could still see quite a bit.

We felt that we got our money's worth, which is rare from our tours. We would recommend booking with RealJourneys, although they are the only option for Doubtful in the Winter months.

“Loved this perfect gorgeous cruise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2013

Overnight cruise and kayaking in Doubtful Sound. All perfectly organized, super friendly helpful staff, the best buffet I've had in New Zealand! The naturist had all the info, the Captain was so friendly and easy to talk to. I chose the shared 4 bed cabin. Plenty of space and comfortable. Besides the mindblowing kayak experience, waking up in the still waters of Doubtful Sound and watching the sun rise through the mist was something I'll never forget. Including the boat ride across Lake Manapouri, and the bus ride over the pass to get to Doubtful, the staff were always entertaining and teaching along the way. Not a single complaint. Well done Real Journeys!

“Totally Professional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2013

We had already wasted one day on a very boring and badly-run tour to Milford Sound (with a rival company), so were a bit nervous as to whether the Manapouri Power Station Tour would be just another waste of time. But it was so well-organised, and all the people involved, from the people at the ticket counter to the lovely young man who drove the bus (Justin Remnant deserves a pay rise and a promotion), were friendly, efficient, funny and welcoming. We were just sorry we hadn't gone with Real Journeys the day before.
