“A wonderful winter stay in a beautifully renovated property with lots of space and excellent facilities”
Reviewed 13 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

A warm welcome and great hospitality from the Knowles family who have sympathetically renovated The Grange to a very high standard. All of the rooms are tastefully furnished and with underfloor heating downstairs and big radiators in the bedrooms we were cosy and warm despite the chill winter weather.
This is a lovely part of Yorkshire and we enjoyed local walks, a visit to Penistone market, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and a family wedding!

“Wonderful Family Christmas”
Reviewed 29 December 2012 for a stay in December 2012

We booked the Grange way back in October 2011 for the week of Christmas 2012 (book early to save disappointment - Christmas 2013 already booked!!).
We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children (6 and 8) however we intended entertaining family from around the Barnsley area so the additional space and parking was a great benefit.
We were really impressed with the ease of unloading cars in inclement weather - park near the utility room door and unload then distribute to various rooms. This is also a great room when you come home cold and wet - there is plenty of room for everyone to come in take off jackets and footwear in warmth.
From here you walk through a well appointed kitchen - limited only by its long shape. Plenty of pans, crockery and cutlery for eight people including glasses of course. There is a very useful downstairs loo off the kitchen suitable for guests and visitors.
The kitchen leads onto the main lounge which is well appointed with large fireplace, 3 double settees, writing bureau and large flat screen TV with DVD player. From this room you may access the sitting room across the passageway - we found this very useful for adults to sit and have a blether and a drink while the kids watched TV and ran riot. This lounge has NO TV which was a boon to us however it does have a 3-piece suite and plenty of rooms for additional chairs.
From the front lounge you may access the dining room or really nice garden (not used due to inclement weather). The dining room has a nice big solid table and eight chairs (more available around the house if necessary) with a big window overlooking the garden - must be lovely in the summer.
And so to the second floor - from the top of the stairs there is a "master bedroom" nice big double bed very comfortable and nice clean sheets. Nice warm carpet and en-suite room with shower, sink and w/c. Plenty of hot water all day even with four bedrooms.
Further down the hallway there is a large twin bedded room overlooking the rear garden.
Opposite this room there is a little corridor leading to a further two bedrooms - the one on the right was ideal for the kids - 1 double and 1 single bed with en-suite washing and w/c. Opposite this room is the classiest bedroom - steps down into the bedroom and enter a dressing/sitting area with fireplace, go through this room into a bedroom with double bed and a lot of character.
Servicing these three bedrooms is a large family bathroom with large bath, separate shower and w/c.
All rooms throughout the building are well heated - downstairs with underfloor heating and upstairs with radiators.
Upstairs is fully carpeted with a good quality carpet while downstairs is covered with Amtico floor covering throughout. Looks lovely but is slippy for kids running around and scratches very easy!!!
The kids just loved the size of the rooms and we thought the space helped remove stress from a very enjoyable festive break.
We used the adjoining stable for additional storage and the pet rabbit (this had been agreed in advance with the owners who have a strict NO ANIMAL policy - when you see the high standard of the furnishing and decoration you will appreciate why.
This is a 16th Century property with the inherrent low beams - look good but are hard on people over 5' 6".
The car parking is huge - we had 5 cars on the drive at one time and each could drive in or out with ease.
Locally there is a local pub/restaurant (The Fountain Inn) just 10-minute walk away. There are quite a few short walks direct from the site or just a short ride away.
There is a local shop en-route to the pub or Tesco is available in Penistone just 10-minute ride away. Great location in easy reach of Sheffield, Huddersfield, Barnsley, etc. M1 motorway is just 10-minute drive (junction 37 I think).
Great value for money - would I use it again MOST DEFINITELY.

“The Grange is the perfect holiday house - elegant, warm and comfortable.”
Reviewed 23 May 2012 for a stay in April 2012

The Grange is an interesting house of considerable age (Inscription over the door dated 1624) and it has been beautifully restored and decorated. The rooms are all spacious and immaculately kept, and the garden which surrounds the house is delightful. The house is well equipped to a very high standard and it is very comfortable. The surrounding area offers excellent walking, with footpaths from the doorstep crossing lovely countryside. Penistone, a short drive away, has numerous shops, a farmers' market and supermarkets. Booking the accommodation and any queries were dealt with promptly and courteously. We were slightly bothered about the main road outside but this reservation soon disappeared- the garden and drive are walled and gated and the house has thick walls and double glazing!
