We stayed in the cabana and loved the outdoor shower, views of the grounds, and serenity of being in the rainforest. Barbara was so lovely. She provides snacks, wine, and a small breakfast in the room and she was kind enough to give us a tour of her aquaponic greenhouse. Make sure to bring dinner, as there is no way to cook at the cabana. The pool is fed by a small waterfall with spring water from the rainforest. We loved every minute of our stay!

We stayed one night and had an absolutely fantastic stay. I echo the reviewer who said 'words cannot express the beauty of this place'.

We got a bit lost getting there, the sign for the turn-off is not as clear as it perhaps could have been. However from the moment we turned into the property all the stress of finding it completely disappeared.

We stayed in the Casita, a beautiful one-bedroomed house. The room was stocked with a bottle of wine and a few beers, fruit just picked from the trees in the property, some biscuits, milk, cereal etc etc. The grounds are incredible, with a beautiful rock pool at the back for swimming - very very cold though!!! But lovely to be swimming in what did not feel at all like a swimming pool but v natural. And a beautiful spot for sunbathing, with a few beach beds.

We loved wandering around the grounds and seeing what Barbara was growing - so much food!!
Barbara has two gorgeous dogs - huge and very calm and friendly.

We went up the road to the restaurant Barbara recommended for dinner (I've forgotten it's name I'm afraid!) It was a short drive away. The food was REALLY good - v simple Puerto Rican food but done v well and the owner was very friendly and helpful, it was also v good value so I would definitely advise taking Barbara's recommendation on where to eat!

Despite being a v rural retreat it had everything you would need - hot shower with good water pressure, great little bookshelf with some fantastic books, CD player and some lovely CDs (reading a book, drinking wine, and listening to Tom Waits on the porch was definitely a highlight!). Wifi, plugs etc etc.

We only stayed one night but this is definitely one place I would love to stay much longer and come back to.

Negatives are in no way the fault of Barbara, just something to be aware of and prepare for - we both got incredibly bitten by bugs. The Casita has a gorgeous porch to sit on and drink the bottle of complimentary wine so I wouldn't miss out on that, just use a lot of bug spray!! And the Casita was v noisy at night - but from the croaking of the frogs! If you're the type of person that this would annoy, then this isn't the place for you - it's a retreat in the middle of nature and I definitely enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the frogs' croaking!

My partner and I spent the first 3 nights of our lovely Puerto Rican vacation here at Casa Picaflores. We stayed in the Casita, a 1 bedroom small house, located on the property. The Casita wa very cleaned and was pleasantly stocked with breakfast food items, cheese, beer, wine, and chocolate. The roads leading up to the property can be a bit on the harrowing side...but we had no problems driving around...just be cautious. The proprieter, Barbara, was very welcoming and kind to us during our stay here. It did rain every day (but we are in the rainforest...ha) and was a bit too cold to try out the natural stone pool on the property....it would be awesome if it were slightly warmer. There is fresh and TASTY fruit everywhere and we were welcomed to pick it. We also took Barbara's advice and booked a rainforest tour hike with the local fruit farmer Robin. I HIGHLY recomend doing that...it was a big highlight :)

A bit of advice I have would be to stop and stock up on food items prior to arrival here. There are two restraunts nearby...Rio Blanco Bakery (DELICIOUS pressed sandwiches...) and Noielas (sp?) which isn't super amazing food...but the ambiance, cold beer, and sangria is well worth it :)

All in all Casa Picaflores offered a tranquil retreat in the rainforest. The facility was very clean, extreemly safe, and the owner was warm and welcoming :)

Room Tip: We loved the Casita....it was located furthest from the road. Very private

Oh my goodness, words cannot express the beauty of this place. Getting here was ok, I thought it would be harder but surprisingly it was not. Follow the directions but dont turn left at the metal bridge stay straight.) , beautiful appointments to the cabin (modern hardware, shower, fans, and lighting all impeccable). Bring food because the cabin is remote and you will not want to leave once you get here. This place is REMOTE!!! Gorgeous, come here asap, beautiful luxury in the rainforest if that even exists. And it does here. The jungle pool was sooooo amazing. All expectations are realized at this remote locale. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at Casa Picaflores in early May of 2013. We stayed in the screened casita next to the pond. What fun! At night the coqui frogs sang to us -- and we never slept so well! The landscaping is amazing. Don't miss the natural rock "pool" toward the back of the property. Above all, we will never forget Barbara. She gives Casa Picaflores it's unique calm spirit -- in tune with the earth and with all things on it. Thanks, Barbara! We hope to be back.

Casa Picaflores is definitely my favorite place that I have EVER stayed in Puerto Rico, and there have been many. The water, the fruit trees, the peaceful bubble that surrounds the property, the murals, our room, the snacks, and last but not least Barbara's presence made this an incredible experience. I always feel good when I'm in the rainforest, but this was a new level of goodness altogether. Everything is clean and very well taken care of and very consciously done. The room was extremely comfortable, I had an amazing night's sleep. I can't wait to go back. It was easy to find following the directions on the website. Our accomodations were simple and yet with all the ammenities we needed to feel very comfortable. The only thing that would have made the stay better was if it was longer - I didn't want to leave. Barbara's presence and obvious love and care for the property were an invaluable part of the experience. The paradise she has created is palpable. Go if you can!!

f you come to Puerto Rico you have to stay here!!!
My husband, 12 year old daughter, 20 year old daughter, 12 year old nephew, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I just came back from Puerto Rico. We traveled all over the island & stayed in Vieques, Cabo Rojo and Rincon but we all agreed that Casa Picaflores was our favorite spot!!! From the moment you arrive you are in awe of the beauty that is surrounding you. The owner, Barbara, did such a wonderful job with her property and she has so much pride in it. I have never met such a gracious hostess. She made it clear that she was always available to us no matter what time. She took her time in showing us the property and explaining everything from the tilapia pond, the huge trampoline that the kids loved, the many fruit trees(which she graciously shared) to the best part of all......the natural swimming pool!! We arrived late but we all couldn't help ourselves so we went into the pool @ 10 pm and were greeted by fireflies and serenaded by the coqui. Magical!!! We stayed in the 3 bedroom villa and it was absolute perfection! Again, the pride Barbara has in this place shines through with her decorating. It is beautifully decorated but still warm and cozy. The big, beautiful colored paintings all over the house were amazing. The kitchen has everything you need and Barbara even left us some breakfast items, snacks and wine and beer in the fridge. The mangos we picked from her tree and this delicious juice(Acerola, I think it was called) made the most amazing smoothies! The other smaller cottages on the property are just as beautiful. One of them has an awesome outdoorish shower with this huge shower head that looked so inviting.
Seriously, I could go on and on about this property because there are so many wonderful things about it. There were some cheaper places that we could have stayed in but we were so glad we stayed here! If you are traveling with another family you should definitely consider sharing the big house and splitting the cost instead of getting individual rooms somewhere else that would be nowhere near as perfect as Casa Picaflores.
Oh and we did do some great hiking. We drove up the hill a little and found some great trails that lead to some gorgeous waterfalls and natural pools. We packed a lunch and ate it in the middle of El Yunque on a big rock underneath a waterfall!
Writing this is making me miss Casa Picaflores! Can't wait to go back and visit Barbara! She also has some amazing natural skincare products that are making my skin look and feel wonderful!
Thanks Barbara for allowing us to stay at your beautiful property!!
