Description: This canalside pub serves up hearty food, traditional ales and wonderful views over the water. Located beside Lock 28 of the Grand Union Canal, it's a shining example of a great English local pub.

We were moored just above the lock and had a few drinks and an evening meal. For seating, one can chose between the more formal restaurant style inside seating, seats right beside the lock gates, an outdoor covered area looking down the canal or garden seats right beside the canal. The menu was simple and definitely not "pub grub" although you can get burgers and chips. There is also a daily menu. We both had fish dishes which were served nice and hot, were tasty and of a suitable size. It was a pleasant dining experience.

The pub is converted from the old lock-keepers cottage next to the Grand Union/Junction canal. A pleasant enough atmosphere but it would be nice to be greeted when entering. The food is all freshly cooked inhouse and very nice too, but there is something wrong here. Most of the staff can only smile when they are talking to each other which is a shame as they are in a service industry. Something that really got my goat was the sight of one of the lunchtime staff sitting at a table in the evening with a jacket over his uniform t-shirt having a meal. Nothing wrong with that you say? To my mind it it went wrong when he was turned round to earwig on staff chat behind the bar and calling out his contribution to the chat with food spilling out of his mouth back onto his plate. Not a pretty sight. It spoilt it for me.

Hadn't booked, but pleased to find a nice table with a view of the canal. Great buzz to the place (no surprise for a Friday night) and attentive service. Food was typical pub grub - which is a shame. We had starters - Foccacia was nice but very expensive for 2 small slices and some oil! I had the burger which was pretty good, though needed a bit more umph! I would go again on a warm summers evening and sit outside.

Great food and wonderful service, we had a lively meal here on a bank holiday. This is right on the lock and was a pleasant find. The portions were generous and really tasty , would live to have found room for dessert!

This pub is in a nice setting next to a lock on the Grand Union canal and ideal for rural canal walks. It has a spacious garden with plenty of seats and tables and a decent sized car park. The interior of the pub is well decorated and probably looks good at night with candles and fires (we went for lunch). It's a Fullers pub and has a decent range of beers, lagers etc. However, the lunchtime snack menu was pretty limited and the quality of the sandwiches not very good - bread not very appetising and fillings a bit on the frugal side. Chips with everything, no salad option. Staff reasonably friendly. Prices quite expensive
