After a beautiful drive from Venice we arrived in Tuscany to a sea of sunflowers. The main road gave us stunning views of the nearby hillside town of Monterchi. We drove a little further to the 15th century apartment that was to be our home for the week. The views are breathtaking. Hills and fields of olive tress and sunflower fields roll off to meet the horizon that can be viewed from the two balconies in the apartment. The bedrooms were big with tasteful wooden furniture, white sheets and towels and perfectly comfortable pillows. The kitchen had everything it needed for preparing a light lunch or a huge meal for 6 - we sat out in the garden amongst the vines and overlooking the garden to eat as we celebrated my daughters 16th birthday. The place was clean and very homely. It's age added to its comfy - we loved it!
The towns and villages close by were beautiful, full of restaurants and cafes, shops and markets. Although there is no pool at the apartment there is a huge local outdoor pool close by where you can spend the day on the grass dipping in and out of the pool. There is a separate pool for kids with a huge slide! We were very happy there for the whole day.
To get the most out of the location you do need a car. I would thoroughly recommend this beautiful 25c stone house for the location, the views, the local amenities and the comfortable beds and living room!
Our host Juliet has been visiting the house for over 25 years and was able to tell us about the best restaurants to visit and the trips we could take close by. A fabulous holiday - we will be going back!!!
