“The perfect holiday!”
Reviewed 9 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This was our second visit this beautiful place. We loved it so much last year we had two weeks there instead of one this year, which was infinitely better. Mike and Lee are the most warm, relaxed and generous hosts. Should you have any problems at all, or need advice on what to do in the area, they are always on hand to help out. They took us along to a local food/wine event in the village centre - something we'd never have been brave enough to join in by ourselves. We had the most amazing night there with the lovely people of Saussignac village. They also organised a trip around a local vineyard for us, Chateau Feely, which again turned out to be a fantastic experience. Our French isn't too good and they even came along to the vets with us and our dog to translate!
The house itself is absolutely gorgeous and bursting with character. and everywhere you look there is something of interest . It has everything you need for your stay.
Outside, the pool area is stunning and very well equipped. Our three sons spent most of the time in the pool as our weather was perfect. The hosts have a small bistro next door, which is well worth a visit - delicious food in a charming setting. The countryside around is stunning and we had several picnics by the river a few miles away.
We could not have asked for more from a holiday. We were all totally relaxed and had so much fun. We were very sad to leave and will certainly return there. We cannot recommend it highly enough - go see for yourself!

“Carpe diem á la française”
Reviewed 28 June 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Quaintly located in the culinary province of the Dordogne in southwestern France lies the idyllic town of Saussignac. Traversing the rolling hills of lushly decked grapevines to get to this destination from Bordeaux is without a doubt a rewarding experience all on its own. The rows of the manicured plots of land hypnotize and put you in a relaxed state of mind, thus prepping you for what is to be perhaps one of the most relaxing refuges left in this manic world.

Arriving at Lieu Dit le Bourg, you can't help but to be in awe of the rich history found in this quintessential French town; an imposing medieval château is the focal point of this community, which directly faces the property. Walking through the doors of this rustically preserved home beautifully captures the spirit of traditional French life starting with the exposed masonry that is reiterated throughout many parts of the house, to the original artisanal woodwork of the staircases that have withstood the test of time.

Original artifacts are spotted throughout the rooms contributing to the "France profonde" feel of this home with the sitting room being one of my favorite places to unwind from an unpredictable passing thunderstorm in the company of a wood-burning fire. Also being fortunate enough to soak up a good amount of sun by the pool, the surrounding nature never ceases to amaze, whether it be the symphony of spring in motion or the sweet scent of blossoming trees and flowers.

I thoroughly enjoyed my sojourn at Lieu Dit le Bourg and recommend it without reservations.

“A super relaxed place!”
Reviewed 30 May 2016 for a stay in August 2015

This is my idea of having a perfect holiday in the Dordogne. The quiet and peace of rural France, beautifully styled with elegance and comfort, in an authentic French village, overlooking the village's Chateau. You can chill with your glass of wine next to the pool, but if you're keen to absorb the buzz of touristy Dordogne, a short drive will bring you there. I had a totally relaxing time there and will be back.

We were hosted here for 3 nights, but would have liked to stay many more. This place has everything you want if you are into great food, great wine, and exceptional hosts. If you are into 5-star hotels, go back to Paris. If you are into staying at a place rich in history, dinners extending into nights with outdoor fireplaces, and relaxation stay here.

“beautiful house with peaceful gardens and a pool make for French perfection”

Wow! What a wonderful time we had. I went with my partner for 10 days and some friends and family joined us for a long weekend. We used both the main house and the adjoining house. The house is beautifully decorated and equipped. For the money, you really are getting a very high quality house and gardens. This is no holiday let; it's a high quality home away from home.

Everything you need is there from beautiful glasses and silver cutlery to comfy sofas, books and SKY HD TV for those missing a little UK TV or a movie on a lazy afternoon. The massive dining hall is just so pretty and we had a lovely formal dinner there one evening. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable with lovely king size beds and lovely bed linen. I particularly like the master suite with huge French windows and a Juliet balcony affording guests a view across to the chateau opposite and sweeping views down across the Dordogne valley. The master suite has a big en suite bathroom, dressing room and access past a study area down the back stairs so if you fancy a quick trip to the kitchen for a midnight snack, this is a shortcut and means you don't go down the main staircase and get busted for snacking by your other guests.

This is a village house and so you don't normally expect to have such a lot of outside space. Not so with this house. The outside space is HUGE! Outside the kitchen door is a lovely sunny patio and this leads on on to a surprisingly massive garden with a beautiful sun drenched pool area. The gardens are mature with fruit trees and a pond. There is huge wisteria covered gazebo under which are a table and chairs so you can sit 12 for a shady lunch. The pool area has wide deck around it with both comfortable sofas and sunbeds / recliners. This area gets the sun all day and so it was sheer delight to jump into the pool to cool off.

The location is superb being on 15-20 minutes drive away from Bergerac Airport or just 90 minutes from Bordeaux Airport. The village has a restaurant called the Lion D'Or which is good for simple French fare. You can also buy wine from the local vineyards here at vineyard prices. There is also a Depot Du pain in the village where you can get bread and pastries plus some fresh fruit and cigarettes. It's only open for an hour or two each day and it's best to place an order the first time you and what you want will there for you each day. I would also recommend a restaurant called Madame Moutier which is about 15 minutes drives away. If you want many courses of the best the Perigord has to offer this is a must and comes with different wine for each course. a designated driver will be required.

The village is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and taking a glass of wine with you for a stroll through them is a must. The village also has tennis courts which are free to use - the house has rackets and balls. There are some lovely walks ranging from a 20 minute stroll to a 3 1/2 hour hike. There were details and maps in the house.

Bergerac city centre is 20 minutes away and there many large French hypermarkets on the way to Bergerac. My favourite, however, is the L'Eclerc about 15 minutes away from the house in the direction of Bordeaux in a place called Pineuil. Nearer to the house is Gardonne which is 2km away. There are shops including a little supermarket, butchers, bakery and pizzeria and it has a little market on Sundays where you can pick up a rotisserie chicken, lovely fruit and veg and cheeses.

Overall, I can't recommend this place highly enough. I am going back again this year and will do a bog family trip in June next year. It's a great place for a couple to go for a quiet week or two and also a great place for friend and family to join too, especially the kids who will enjoy the gardens and pool.

We stayed for two nights and had a lovely visit. Our room was beautifully decorated and over looked the château. Lee and Mike were charming hosts and they bent over backwards for us. Mike's art is placed throughout the house and adds to its charm and uniqueness. lots of lovely walks from the house through vineyards. the village is postcard pretty and the garden of the house is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine. We will be back in September
