What a great time we had. my wife and i spent two very peacefull nights at this hotel late december and feel that we would like to let people know how very nice and pleasant the staff where to us both with a special mention to clare/mark and hannah who made us feel like friends and not like paying guest the rooms are a bit on the small side but what doe.s it matter after all you are only using them for sleeping in . We had our first nights meal in the restaurant and what a meal that was lamb chops goats cheese etc fabulous a bit on the pricey side but well worth it for a one off
If the management read this review tell clare that i have lost my marker pen ha ha

Room Tip: if possible get one overlooking the sea

Booked to go to this hotel on a kgb deal and was pleasantly surprised. We travelled at the end of November so it was a bit nippy. It was a lovely hotel, although probably wouldn't class it as a boutique hotel as sometimes described, the rooms and the bed were very comfortable, the bathrooms were fine with hot water at all times of the day. The hotel staff were very helpfull, and friendly - although we did have a bit of a faulty towers moment when we arrived which we found quite funny. We only had breakfast in the dining room which was fine, if i was being really picky i would say if anything the food could have been a bit hotter - the plates were piping hot, not much good if the food is cold. We spent a little bit of time in the hotel bar, which was hotel prices, more expensive than Pub prices. All in all i would not hesitate to recomend this hotel and would definately return - maybe next time we would go in summer and get a room with a balcony because the views are stunning.

Room Tip: Room no 6 has a double bed and a single bed. Large room with an suite bathroom both shower and bath...

My wife and I stayed at the Cliffemount on 9 and 10 December 2011 having secured a deal with KGB.

Our room was spotless and well presented. The bed was sumptuous with crisp clean linen and the flat screen TV was well positioned for a cosy evening tucked up with a bottle of wine.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and showed us to our room. Much has been said in previous reviews about the views from the hotel and, although we couldn't see these from our own room those from the breakfast room and other areas of the hotel are truly wonderful.

The breakfast room/restaurant was well laid out making full use of the views over the bay. There was a huge selection of juices, cereals and fruits and a wide range of cooked food too. We could have eaten the whole menu but had the grilled Yorkshire breakfast both days - the cumberland sausage is to die for. I don't know where you get them from, Ian and Carol, but keep 'em coming for our next visit.

After our first breakfast, we were surprised to return to our room to find that the bed had already been made, the tea, coffee and biscuits replenished and the bathroom cleaned. Although not a problem to us, some guests may prefer to be alerted to this beforehand.

By our own admission, we were travelling on a strict budget and so didn't take dinner at the hotel because doing so would have put us over that budget. Having said that, and having looked at the menu based on what we've happily paid before, we wouldn't have expected to have have laid out anything less than the given prices.

After a day's Christmas shopping in the unseasonably cold winds of Whitby, the hotel was a warm and welcoming haven. However, although we would expect the heating to be lowered during the night, for an early riser (like me) the room hadn't quite warmed up sufficiently for a comfortable shower before breakfast. The earlier reviewer who mentioned the fixed shower screen in room 5 does have a point, it IS a tad awkward.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, and just a 15 minute drive from the beautiful town of Whitby but I recommend the invigorating early morning walk down to the beach to whet the appetite before an 8:00 breakfast.

Nothing is ever perfect, so in the spirit of offering opportunities for improvement, we'd suggest a hairdrier in the room and for the wi-fi to be extended to the guest rooms.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cliffemount. It was our home for a couple of days. Without the KGB deal we would have struggled to have afforded to have stayed there, but we're glad we did.

I'd add that we paid £99.00 for our 2 night, 2 adult trip deal. We feel that we got a bargain and so (of course) would have expected to pay more but KGB quoted that the actual price was £230. Looking at the hotel website for our room, the price was closer to £180. We'd have been happy to pay £140 for the room and services.

To put this into context, for our honeymoon two years ago we paid £160 for two nights in a Hilton - although the bed wasn't as comfy.

Thank you for your review and we are working to have wi-fi in every room soon and the hair dyer was in the little drawer in your dressing table but we have moved it to the main drawer now. Hopefully if you visit again you may try our restaurant as we are very proud of our food.

Went with my parnter and her perents, we had a room with a sea view out over runswick bay, stunning! The room was clean, tidy and modern, had a wall mounted TV that had the sound restricted so as not to disturb other guests. The bathroom was small but well layed out and spotlessly clean, however, no shower in our room, although showers are available so be sure to ask.

Internet - wifi available in public areas.

Staff - fantastic, helpful, friendly and most importantly, genuine, there was no falsness and they really went the extra mile for you.

Food - Impeccable, not too much, not too little, perfectly presented, house specials available and a ample menu, and speedy service. All served up overlooking runswick bay. Breakfast, cerials and toast, full english made up to your liking, smoked salmon and scramled eggs was my choice.

Bar area - spacious, cosy, yet modern, and again, clean and well finished.

All in all I cant recommend this place enough, its ideal for both couples or parties, and only a short drive from Whitby and Scarborough.

We have recently spent a week with our two dogs at this hotel. The only improvement that could be made was the weather! We were all made to feel very welcome and the food was to die for!
