“Return to holiday heaven”

I have just returned from another wonderful stay at the Cliffemount. The staff were very welcoming and remembered me from my previous stay, they were friendly, efficient and professional. The food was really exciting and the "taster menu" was fantastic, again only fresh and local sourced food was served.

My room had a balcony and the views were spectacular, the bed really comfy and the bathroom was lovely, I stayed in one day because of the weather but I enjoyed that as much as going out.

The owners Carole and Ian Rae are happy to help in anyway I.e if you want an earlier breakfast or any problem you may have they are happy to help. Overall I love this hotel a cosy comfy place to stay with the added bonus of the views

Rectangular plates do not entitle you to double the price and halve the standards.3 tables seated at 8.oopm on a Saturday night should have been the first red flag.Having politely informed the maitre d' of my overcooked steak we(and the entire restaurant plus bar)could hear the "chef" bellow his disagreement like a Marseilles docker.Said maitre d',clearly scared, returns with "chef"'s findings.Time to peel out and cut your losses. It' a shame, really, because the view from the dining room is spectacular, but if they can't even cook a steak properly you could be overlooking the Grand Canyon and still be disappointed.

I have stayed at this hotel twice before and would thoroughly recommend the hotel as a fabulous place to relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the North Yorkshire Coast. The views from our blacony room is simply stunning and as they face east catches the early morning sun and what a fabulous view to wake up to!!. Our room was very clean, well appointed and comfortable and the bed was huge- a superking size and made for a perfect nights sleep. The bathroom was clean, the bath deep enough and big enough, plenty of hot water, fresh clean towels and warm too.

Another highlight is the food- we booked in on a package deal and the menu was varied, including locally sourced fresh produce and the two evening meals we had were excellent. Breakfast was good- and a varied choice. The staff are accomodating and friendly and the whole place was relaxing. There is a good selection of whiskies and beer in the bar and too overpriced either.

As a repeat guest I would only say that the accomodation prcing is a little bit on the high side, but a deal package is well worth what you pay. I have sytayed at more expensive locations and this hotel is , in my opinion one of the best in the area, it offers comfortable accomodation and the views from the east facing rooms cannot be beaten.

Room Tip: Get one on the upper floors with a balcony. They are all quiet and great for relaxing. The clifftop...

We stayed here for one night at Easter as a family of 3. We arrived in the early evening but the misty weather meant we couldn't see the much promised views. However the next morning was clear skies and the views from the hotel were pretty fantastic. The food in the restaurant was very nice as was the real ale, however with very few guests staying the night we we there it was very much lacking in atmosphere and we were the last to leave at about 9pm and felt slightly rushed. The only grumble we had was the camp bed that we were charged £20 for for our 7 year old daughter. It was very flimsy and I wouldn't recommend it for any older child.
The location is good with Runswick Bay a nice quiet beach for rock pooling and the lovely town of Staithes just 5 mins down the coast. In summary a great location and nice enough hotel but not as grand as the prices suggest.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in February for 4 nights. The staff at the hotel were excellent, the rooms comfortable and the location excellent for walking!

However, the soundproofing between our room on the ground floor and the room above us was non-existent - the first night we had a very quiet couple above us, the second night the room above was empty, but the last two nights were terrible - we could hear everything (and I mean everything) from the room above - needless to say, we were glad to get home for a good nights sleep.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good soundproofing!

We spent 2 nights here on a Groupon deal and we had upgraded to a room with a balcony, which gave us a fantastic view over the bay. The room was attractive, clean, and comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant on the first evening, and the meal and service were excellent. Breakfast was very good, with a reasonable choice.
The hotel is in a very peaceful area and is an ideal base for exploring the coast and surrounding area.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the bay are worth the extra money.

We spent two days here with friends on a KGB deal which was extremely good value. Good Hotel with lovely rooms with balconies overlooking Runswick bay which is beautiful. Breakfast was average not asked if we would like any extra coffee or toast and felt a bit uncomfortable when the waitress started moving tables behind us. So breakfast felt rushed. We all enjoyed our meal in the restaurant in the evening. The steaks were cooked exactly as we requested and the waiter was attentive at all times. Overall a nice hotel but it lacked atmosphere especially in the bar area.
