I came with my family in a party of 16 as we were staying down in the bay, we were told there would be a wait which was fine as we were in no rush. When the good came it was very tasty with a lot of choice! The only problem was with the bill, we asked for it 3 times and ended up adding it up ourselves. But apart from that a nice meal out!

Stayed there on our penultimate night on our Cleveland Way Walk. To be frank the accommodation was shabby, seen better days, requires investment to bring it up to date. Breakfast service was exceptionally poor, they ran out of milk and tables were not made up properly. The only positive note was the evening meal was quite good, based on the overall experience would not stay there again.

Our room had about twenty wires hanging from the ceiling where spot lights hadn't yet been fitted. Lots of apologies- but should they have let the room when not finished? We weren't warned about this or given a choice of another room or part refund. The four poster had no canopy on it, just the plain wood frame which is not how they're supposed to be. Luckily we had brought a spare blanket which we threw over the top of the frame so that we didn't have to lie in bed looking up at a load of wires!
The plumbing from other rooms is very loud especially in the middle of the night. Pillows are hard. I had to clean our window so that I could see out of it properly. Worst, and the only thing which really annoyed, was the wait for dinner which from ordering to arrival of food took over an hour. Lots of apologies when food arrived.
Breakfast was disorganised with lacklustre service. More apologies.
On the plus side they have great beer, a good bar man (Oliver), great location and the food when it arrives is edible. Poached eggs were excellent. And they're all nice people. There was a general feeling that they needed to get more organised and sharpen up! Hopefully this will improve.

The New Owner of the Runswick Bay Hotel (Simon) is doing a great job.
The food was always good and now even better with a great family atmosphere and also dog friendly. Great Place , Great Service , Fantastic rustic feel and with both fires lite and roaring on a cold day the ultimate place to have a pint. ???
The Chicken Parmo is a must > enjoy.

We stayed here for two nights to attend a family wedding nearby.
We had a family room with an ensuite bathroom. The room was quite cramped for four (there was a double bed and bunks). It could also do with some updating - bathroom was a bright blue suite and the shower was electric without much flow and the curtains were very flimsey - just voile with a lining, so you the light came straight through. The duvets could be more substantial - we were quite cold at night. Having said that, it was perfectly adequate for the time we spent in it, and it was clean.
The breakfasts were really excellent, very substantial and well cooked. Really set you up for the day.
We also ate there the first night, which again was very good. We did decide to eat in the bar as the restaurant felt quite cold. Good local food though - well presented and very tasty, good portions. They have definitely got the food right and I'd recommend people to eat there.
The hotel is in a stunning location and perfect for walkers. We'd definitely consider staying there again as just a couple to explore the area. However:
Tip for families: It's a bit of a shame that staying away with a family of four in this country is so expensive. We paid £105 per night for a fairly small room with four of us in it. Whilst down there, we discovered that there were a number of vacant holiday cottages for rental at just £70 a night - newly refurbished and with three bedrooms. sleeping 6! A much more economical way of doing things, and more comfortable with individual bedrooms, so something we'd definitely look at next time.
