Apparently recently refurbished. The decor was fairly new but the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. Black mould all around the shower door, mould and general dirt around the loo, disgusting black mould around the window frames. Management not bothered when it was pointed out. The restaurant was pretty grim too. Food sent back to the kitchen as it was inedible. The breakfast was it's only redeeming feature. Avoid this place especially room 5. Message to management: still waiting for your call.

Just got back from Badminton horse trials and stayed at the Cross Hands Hotel. An excellent all round hotel. Clean tidy rooms, excellent food and good value. Sirloin steak fab ! And the place has character too without being dated. The restaurant is a beautiful room in my humble opinion. Staff always helpful. Only one Nag. When I go to a hotel, I do expect quality Wi-Fi (and without using Cloud) If that could be sorted you, for me, pefection ! Well done and thank you!

Had a couple of nights at this hotel. Staff were really friendly and happy to help. Hotel bars were nice and it was very busy. Very large garden areas nice in the sunshine. Room was okay, bit shabby and with very loud wallpaper for such a small room, bathroom was not all that great and looked like it needed updating and it was not all that clean in places. Breakfast was interesting, avoid the kippers, never seen anything so small in my life and looked even more pathetic on such a large plate and the eggs royal would have been fine if it was hot! Had dinner in the restaurant, had a good steak and the meal was pretty good for pub grub. Location was fine a short drive into Bath and just outside of Badminton, so would be a good location if goint to the horse trials.

My husband and I stayed at the Cross hands for 2 nights in a superior room. Have to say great location. For a hotel to be still promoting the fact that 12 months ago it had a refurbishment then you would expect the standard to still be high. Having stayed in many of the Old English Inns they all seem to follow in the same pattern. Their standard of housekeeping lets them down. Our room was of a reasonable size with a table in it. The table had obviously never been moved and cleaned underneath it. The bathroom floor was not clean behind the sink pedastal was months of dust and dirt the skirting board had black dust on it the was a cobwed the length of the show curtain. Things that are so simple to clean but are ignored! Why it only takes seconds to keep on top of! This is suppose to be a superior room. There were dirty marks on the wall of the bathroom that were easily removed if someone just wiped them off there was layers of dust on window ledges. Just small things. But non the less they all add up.

The first night we were the the resturant was fully booked so had to eat in the bar, which was not an issue. The Service was acceptable. One barman decided he really was not in the mood to be there and ignored my husband 4 times whilst he was at the bar waiting to be served! But the other people were good. The food on arrival was really good and tasty. We did have to ask for someone to remove the dirty dishes after an hour even though a girl and boy had walked past several times and seen we had finished but did not bother to remove them until we asked. Again small things.

The second night we ate in the resturant. Service was quick and again food was really good and tasty. On completing our main course we were asked if we wanted dessert but we requested at that time to be left for 15 mins. Some 30 mins later no return of waitress even though we had empty glasses, my husband went to bar himself in the end, then found a waitress to get dessert.

Siting in the bar at a table on both nights the tables were left by other people who had food the dishes were removed but tables were not wiped. This is just the sort of small things that surely should automatically be done. It is a shame as this is a lovely pub/hotel and it has a lot of potential and could be a better place if someone just took a little more time and attention to the smaller details were taken. This is the baiscs.

My room was a bit depressing, quite dark, furniture was also dark and very tired. The shower had black mould on the tiles, not a nice look

The room was not as clean as it could be. I cleaned the bathroom floor with a damp white towel and left it for the house keeper with a little note

The gents toilet in the bar and restaurant was smelling particularly bad. the floor was very wet as if covered with pee. It looked to me that maybe the water pressure in the urinals could have been to much and was splashing out onto the floor, hence the bad smell of pee. I did point the smell on Monday and there was some improvement, but still needs further attention

Food was ok, steaks were very good and breakfast was excellent

Staff were very pleasant and well mannered
