After a hard days work and drive myself and a colleague stayed here, the welcome, well you couldn't train someone that big smiles and instantly we felt at home with the managers Irish charm. The rooms are lovely and homely and after a hard days work what I needed. Thinking of bringing the mrs this weekend .

Thank you for choosing The Bell at Old Sodbury and thank you too for your subsequent review.

Lee's Irish charm is certainly earning him a bit of a reputation locally for providing such hospitality!! He was naturally only too happy to help on your recent visit.

If you haven't done so yet, please don't forget to bring 'the Mrs' out to stay with us soon.

Thanks once again.

Beautiful room. Full of character and nice little touches. The bar and restaurant has no atmosphere, very tatty decor. Food is below average and service is okay but annoying at times. Large plasma telly in the dining area advertising the hotel was tacky.

Thank you for choosing The Bell at Old Sodbury on your recent visit to the area and also for reviewing us on Trip Advisor.

We were pleased to read your comments on your accommodation as we have worked particularly hard to make the rooms as welcoming and relaxing as possible - a real home from home.

It was a shame that you found the TV screen used for advertising 'tacky' - if you'd only have chosen to eat in the restaurant and not the bar area you would have found no TV at all!!

We enjoy a very good local reputation for food and service and so can only express our dismay and apologies that you thought the food below average and the service annoying.

Thanks once again for visiting and providing your feedback.

Nice hotel / bar. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Dining area / bar area was very clean and comfortable ( by the fire ). Nice outside seating area. The accomodation ( 4 rooms ) seem very clean and private. Nice place to stop in. Did not try the food. There was a birthday party going on, so I assume that they can take reservations etc. I liked it very much.

We stayed here for 3 nights having never been to this area before and wanted somewhere rural with easy access to Bath and other tourist places.
We stayed in room 4 which was a very large room, beautifully decorated with ensuite and sky tv which was a very nice addition.
Downstairs there is a large bar area and restaurant which again is decorated very nicely and is really clean. You can tell that the owners have really paid attention to detail here.
All of the staff we encountered were wonderful, and couldn't do more to help us and make sure we had a good stay. We ate in the restaurant on the first night, my partner had duck and I had fish and chips which were both enjoyable.
The only criticism I have is that our room was on the front of the hotel which is right on a very busy main road. We found it very difficult to sleep well and as a result we ended up getting up at about 6/7 each morning meaning we were quite tired during the day. Obviously this is something the hotel cannot control, although the windows were single glazed so double glazing may help with this. Overall we had a very nice stay, and would definitely come again.

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Bell at Old Sodbury and for your subsequent review.

We were delighted to read how pleased you were with the room, the quality of the pub, the service you received and the food too.

The single-glazing is something that we really want to get fixed in the near future.

Thanks again for all of your very kind comments and we look forward to seeing you the next time you're in the area.

Do not eat here. We had booked weeks in advance yet no table was laid up for us. Irish barman was over the top in his 'Of course you can' obsequiousness and fawning - irritating (and has no-one told him you dont put you fingers all over the business end of cutlery as you are putting it on the table?) The food was simply boring and thrown at the table in a hurry and one main course arrived TEN minutes after the rest of the meals Overall there was no sense of quiet calm or control - this despite the fact that we were the only people in the pub. The desserts were straight from Iceland's special offers. We will not be back.

The positive reviews here are clearly written by people who don't get out much.

Well, where to start I suppose.....

The 'Irish barman' is in fact the manager, and a very valued member of our team - many people come here to see him and enjoy his 'nothing is too much trouble' approach to customer service which we presume you mistook to be obsequiousness.

Having booked in advance you should have had a table readily prepared for your arrival and for this we apologise - it was an oversight on our part. Having discussed this review with the manager and the other members of the team we are really quite sure that you are mistaken and he did not mishandle the cutlery when delivering it to you.

Again, IF the delivery of your meals was at all disjointed in its timing then we can only apologise for this and state that this is very irregular service and not by our usual standards at all.

That said, the implication that our desserts are 'straight from Iceland's special offers' and the fact that you feel quite capable of being arrogant enough to revile the rest of our customer base (who have been good enough to provide such lovely write-ups) leads us to suggest that your best course of action is indeed to not return, as you shall not be welcome.

We stayed for 1 night in July and had a great time. The room was extremely comfortable and had great bedding and a quality shower. Another bonus was full sky tv (inc sports and movies). We didn't watch much of it but if you like your tv then it's a great included extra. The manager (Lee) was great fun and extremely attentive and the food was excellent. Would happily stay again although maybe next time not when it's 90 degrees out because our beautiful room got REALLY hot. Not the fault of the pub/hotel but it did make it difficult to sleep. Highly recommended

Stayed with a business colleague for one night in June and were warmly greeted on arrival. Nice old place which has recently been renovated throughout.
Rooms were cosy and comfortable with all the facilities one would expect including free wi-fi.
The evening meal was excellent as was breakfast the following morning. Hope to visit again sometime.
