This house is famous for being owned by Tom Poole who brought inspirational people like Coleridge and Humphry Davy to Nether Stowey 200 years ago. Some of Coleridge's poems were written in the house and garden. Tom Poole was famous for his hospitality, and it continues today.
We stayed in Tom Poole's room and enjoyed the excellent, and substantial, breakfast that sets you up for a day walking in the Quantocks.

It is hard to imagine a better base for the many sights and activities locally. The rooms have just that extra touch of luxury that makes visiting special. It will not be hard to find an excuse to return. Quite outstanding.

A very friendly welcome, thoughtfully designed and beautifully maintained accomodation, and a hearty breakfast to follow. What could be better! The perfect place to stay in West Somerset, with Coleridge Cottage round the corner, and a lot else of interest in easy driving distance.

We had the pleasure of staying in the Coleridge Room on an overnight stopover en route to Devon. This room has some very stylish touches, we found the bed extremely comfortable and had a great nights sleep! The ensuite facilities are luxurious. We enjoyed a' locally sourced' tasty full english breakfast which set us both up for the day of exploring the Quantocks and other local sights.Nether Stowey itself is a very quaint village and we thoroughly recommend the clotted cream teas at the local post office for a treat at the end of the day!
The owners,Teresa and Rick have clearly worked hard to make Poole House very special indeed, nothing is too much trouble for them- a true home from home! All in all a delightful experience and one we would definately repeat.

We had a wonderful stay week in this very nice little village and in this fantastic house! The Tom Poole room was big and very tasteful! The bed was fantastic and so was the bathroom. The hosts, Teresa and Rick, was very friendly and helpful. Rick even came out in the car to fetch us when we had been on a long walk and couldn´t get a taxi back. The Quantocks hills offered great walks and the Coleridge museum in the Village was very nice. Poole House has a historic past and was one of the places where Coleridge wrote his poems. The village is not big but there is a couple of pubs, a tearoom in a little shop.

We stayed with friends at Poole House for a weekend back in June. We had a fantastic relaxing time. Our bedroom at the front of the house was enormous as was the bathroom. There were lots of lovely touches such as bottled water, biscuits and a huge assortment of drinks. There were fabulous toiletries in the bathroom. Teresa was most welcoming and extremely helpful. On arrival she provided us with complimentary tea and home made cakes and even came up to our rooms with complimentary champagne for the 4 of us as we were celebrating a birthday. Thank you Teresa for everything and when we meet up with our friends next time we will definitely be thinking of Poole House to stay again.

My husband and i enjoyed three nights here and we will be back. This part of the world is very beautiful with great car-free walks straight into The Quantocks or even down to the coast at Kilve. We are delighted to have found a special place to B&B - the guest rooms in this rare, historic house are deliciously appointed with thoughtful touches. Theresa & Rick are generous, thoughtful hosts and we wish them much success as they grow the business. This will now be the place we choose to stay whenever we visit the area - providing they don't get too booked up - which could easily happen!

Room Tip: We were lucky enough to have slept in both delightful rooms but the big one at the front is amazing.

On a recent trip to Devon we decided to stop off for the weekend at Nether Stowey, the village where Coleridge wrote his finest poems. We were thrilled to find we could stay in the original house where Coleridge's friend and patron, Thomas Poole, had lived. We discovered that Coleridge in fact wrote in Poole's house and our hosts, Teresa and Rick enthusiastically showed us all around the house, including Coleridge's 'book parlour' - all very inspiring!
Our stay was wonderful - extremely comfortable (huge sleigh bed) in a vast 18thC room and as the only guests we even had the delightful parlour to ourselves in the evening to read from an excellent bookshelf and help ourselves to a little nip of something from the honesty tray. Coleridge Cottage (free entry for B & B guests) is conveniently just around the corner and Dunster Castle about 20 minutes up the road. Our only slight disappointment was the food at the local pubs, but thanks to the Good Pub Guide on the shelf we found the Hood Arms at Kilve which produced an excellent roast duck dinner and local cider. Other things to do are to walk the Coleridge Way (just up the road) and drive over the Quantocks and see Over Stowey, and also explore the northern coast. All in all, Rick and Teresa have created a gem of a place to stay.

Room Tip: Though both rooms are nice, we preferred the history and size of Thomas Poole's room.
