We stayed overnight, having found out about Cortijo La Haza from the Michelin Guide. It is in a truly rural location in Olive tree country but only 15 minutes or so from the A92 motorway. A small converted farmhouse, Patriek and Bernadette run it very much themselves and both are delightful and welcoming. There are several secluded outdoor sitting areas to relax in and meals are taken in the middle patio(or inside). The room we had was rather small and dark but perfectly comfortable and with a well equipped bathroom.
The highlight is the cooking of Patriek. We had an excellent and imaginative dinner, better than any we had in Marbella.
A bonus was the welcome given to our little dog, although she disgraced herself by eating some of the cats' food.

We are obviously completely made up with your review, and the kind words you have to say about us and our cortijo. But I still wanted to take the time to maybe clarify why you might think the rooms dark. We can, of course, not quantify people's expectations of size, but for general info, the room has a bedroom, dressing room area and full-size bathroom. Currently the room is occupied for a fortnight, same people for the third year in a row...
For anyone who reads these reviews, Spanish cortijos (in our case about 250 years old) were built in a particular style for a reason. Smaller windows mean cool house in the summer and less heat loss in the depth of winter (at 800m, it can get pretty cold here). While this may appear dark to anyone not used to living in Andalucía, it is the norm here. Changing it would mean altering the soul of our building and that is something we would never entertain. We hope this goes some way to explaining it a bit better. Thanks again, BTW the cats are still indignant about a dog coming to eat their food...

"Flew the Flag" from Gatwick to Malaga and armed with directions four ladies of a certain age set out for a long weekend at Cortijo la Haza. The journey from airport to destination took just over an hour and was easy . Our destination can only be described as perfect. High up in the mountains surrounded by olive trees. The views are amazing and the quiet so peaceful. Bernadette and Patriek are perfect hosts. Bernadette's knowledge of the surrounding areas and cities is invaluable and she is always ready to advise on routes to take and where to park, although she does advise against use of a sat. nav. advice which proved true do just use her maps and instructions should you visit Cordoba, Granada of any other point in between. Our rooms were clean large and airy and the beds comfortable. The shower was always nice and hot . Breakfast and dinner were served in the courtyard. Can't really find words adequate enough to describe the food which is prepared by Patriek. Homemade jams, compotes and chutney, freshly prepared bread and rolls for breakfast together which ham cheese etc ,yogurts and cereal. As for the three course evening meals simply beautiful. We spent one day just relaxing by the pool and had tapas for lunch, again perfect. Armed with Bernadette's instructions we took a trip to a Cordoba, a place not to be missed. We Had planned to go to Granada but it seems that you do now need tickets to visit the Alhambra and they were sold out. On Patrieks recommendation we lunched one day at Los Pajaritos which is about ten minutes away and again the views are spectacular. We also spent an evening in Iznajar where we toured the castle and then sat in the square and watched Flamenco, this was the first time the demonstration had been held but it was well worth seeing if it becomes a regular event.. Whilst we were there other guests had come from Canada, Belgium and the Uk and because the place is so small everyone spoke to everyone, which added to the friendly atmosphere. Cannot praise this place enough the location, the views the tranquility the ambience but most of all Patriek and Bernadette who make what must sometimes be a difficult job seem so easy and make everyone feel so welcome. Really hope to go back at some point.

When you arrive at the home of Bernadette and Patriek it is like visiting old friends. Every minute of our stay was relaxed and had a feeling of being at home. Nothing was too much trouble for Bernadette or Patriek and every meal was a fabulous surprise. Although it is small it has loads of character and the scenery is breathtaking. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, all with en suite and two with a balcony. Because it is small you do get to meet the other guests of different nationalities and it is great to see Bernadette and Patriek conversing with them all in their own language. I can't wait for my next visit and am 100% able to recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all and have a peaceful experience in the sunshine.

Room Tip: We had a twin room with a small balcony and there another double room on the same side with a slight...

This beautiful little hotel is up in the hills of Andalucía and I have just returned after a four night stay. The proprietors, Bernadette and Patrriek make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive and continue to do everything they can to make your stay as relaxed and perfect as can be.

Everything about this hotel is lovely. The food is amazing, with Patriek preparing all the food himself. The rooms are all spotlessly clean and traditionally decorated.

I have no hesitation in recommending this little piece of Paradise to anybody.

This is my favourite place to relax in the sunshine. Once you have experienced the hospitality you will just want to keep coming back. The six bedrooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable as well as being tastefully furnished. Two of the rooms have terraces where you can sit in the sunshine or even under the stars in the evening. During the day you can relax by the pool in the sunshine or enjoy a seat in a shady spot. The grounds are beautiful with wonderful views. Bernadette and Patriek are wonderful hosts. On arrival they are there to greet you and show you to your room. Bernadette is always happy to advise on trips and places to visit around the area. Patriek's food is fantastic and his desserts are "to die for". I have visited three times in the last 18 months and I hope to make many more visits in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 & 6 have a terrace

Alistair Sawdays review of this Cortijo was spot on , we arived in the dark so we had no idea untill the morning how superb the setting is for this hotel. Although small the facilities are all there and Patriecks food is excellent . I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anybody . If you are looking for excellent food , a good bed and every opportunity to find a cosy corner to relax in, this is the place to do it. Patrieck and Bernadette deserve much praise for all they do for you at La Haza.

We've just finished our 3 days, 2 nights on La haza, Iznajar.

The place of Patriek and Bernadet is lying in the hills of olives. It's quiet, relax and peaceful.
From the moment we're arrived we felt like coming in paradise. The whole atmosphere is really relaxed. Patriek and Bernadet hospitality is amazing. The are very helpful and give you a lot of information about the area and all the places you can visit en then there is the FOOD.
Patriek prepares his food with PASSION and you can taste it. We ate two nights there and you are crazy when you are gonna look for a better restaurant/place. You won't find a place like this that easy.

Room Tip: all the rooms are amazing. We had the room with a balcony. This one was very nice!
