We spent a relaxing week in Andalucia with Casa des Arcos as our base. The house had everything we needed but we spent most of our time outside. To the front of the property there is a large paved area for sitting in the sun and a large covered area with dining table and table tennis, a great place to escape the hot sun! The views from the house are fantastic. You look out onto the Sierra Nevada mountains, olive groves and down to the lake and the hill top village of Iznajar. Communication from the owners was prompt and informative and we were met by Karen (a lovely friendly lady!) who took us up to the house. We would recommend this property for a holiday. Thank you.
We have just spent a wonderful two week holiday at Casa Des Arcos for the first two weeks of July. We spent ages researching and chose this villa deliberately because it is set up the mountain just a little drive away from the gorgeous Spanish white village called Iznajar. The very first moment we arrived, we had to take a deep breath because of the most spectacular views overlooking mountains as far as the eye can see and down into the valleys with rows and rows of olive trees to a stunning vista of the deep blue lakes below ! Just amazing!
The villa itself is a three bedroom villa with family shower and toilet downstairs and an en-suite bathroom, toilet and shower next to the main bedroom. There is a small dining room, a lounge and a nice sized kitchen with all of the amenities required that you would expect to find in any modern house. What you have to remember is that the owners have opened their villa to tourists and so there is everything you could want right there - a home away from home. For those of you concerned with cooking, cleaning and washing there is a microwave, grill, oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine and all utensils that you would have in your own kitchen. All spotlessly clean and ready to move in for use. The owners have also installed aircon for those who find it too hot.
You might think I am brushing over the interior and that is because I am! It’s not because it’s not nice it’s because the outside area is just too breath-taking to miss a beat and this is where we spent our whole holiday. There is a large patio area exposed to the sun from dawn till dusk, which enables you to watch the crazy sunrises and the even more spectacular sunsets with the moon rising. Huge orange sun rises with fiery skies in the morning and setting at night followed by the moon rising and no light pollution so shooting stars at night. Be warned it does get HOT ! So factor 50 is a must and in July it was in the high 30’s to 40’s !
Next to the villa, under shaded arches is an outside dining area and would you believe it a full size table-tennis table for those inclined to try and play this sport ! There is a lovely clean plunge pool but big enough to bounce around and cool off and it overlooks the vista. We spent much of our time in the pool cooling off overlooking the stunning views or just lounging around reading and watching the wildlife. There are chairs and sun loungers available for this. The fridge is very large and therefore we were very happy to have an ample supply of cold wine, beer and soft drinks if we felt a bit thirsty
We chose this villa come to watch the bird life and relax and that is exactly what Casa Des Arcos delivered. For those birders reading this review there were thousands of swifts and swallows hunting right in front of the villa. Our favourite raptors made regular appearances and this included, booted eagles, short-toed eagles and unidentified eagles which made it fun. There were also Blue Rock Thrushes and Bee Eaters …….. I could go on and on !
For those not so interested in birds at night we also were very lucky to see an Iberian Fox and a bats at dusk. Don’t worry they don’t come near you for those feeling a bit nervous about this! They are tiny Pipastrels and you would probably think they were small birds. If you are into bats take your sonic detector and set it at about 45 as we got some amazing sounds from them. There are also Geckos and lizards, ants and some cool wasps that bounce onto the pool to cool off. All harmless if you leave them alone to mind their own business. Obviously don’t leave food out but that is just common sense that you will be attracting creatures if you do this.
Jim the owner has very kindly written a manual for the villa and the surrounding area and the places of interest to visit. You are one hour from Marbella and all that it has to offer (for us a major hangover as we partied all night there!!) but there are also the most amazing historical sites that I think you should research for your own interests! Jim the owner has very kindly written a manual for the villa and the surrounding area and the places of interest to visit. There are garages, shops and restaurants but you would require a car to get about. Jane the agent is a phone call away if you have any questions or problems.
I have to say this was one of the best holidays we have had as for once we actually managed to relax from the usual daily grind and just SWITCH OFF ! Jason and I spent two weeks here in this most romantic setting and we were very sad to leave. We will definitely return here again and will do as soon as we can manage to book in !!!!
