“Gorgeous cortijo with stunning views.”
Reviewed 14 January 2008

We stayed for two fantastic weeks at La Loma in August 2007. The accomodation and views surpassed our expectations, which has never happened before!
The accomodation is immaculately clean, tastefully furnished and well-equipped. The pool area is gorgeous and the views from La Loma are absolutely stunning.
We opted to pay the supplement to have the pool to ourselves, which, we felt, was well worth it for our holiday.
We had excellent communication with the hosts, Gaynor and Martin, prior to our holiday. On arrival, the kitchen was stocked with essential items (tea, butter, bread, cheese, wine etc!), plus extra shopping that we had requested. We hired a car for our stay, but could have opted to be collected from the airport by the hosts (an option that I would definitely consider for a shorter stay, e.g. a long weekend break). A car is essential, though, for exploring the region, as La Loma is, gloriously, off the beaten track.
Throughout our stay, Gaynor and Martin were great hosts; discreet, but helpful and accomodating. They offered information about places to visit , shopped for us at a local market, booked a table at a local restaurant and kept us supplied with delicious figs from their tree (in season at the time - I was gutted to have to pay supermarket prices on our return to England!).
We had planned numerous days out prior to our holiday, but, although we did visit Granada ( book in advance for The Alhambra!), Marbella, Nerja and a few more local towns, we scaled-down our itinery, because we were so content at La Loma. The peace and tranquility was fantastic!
In summary, La Loma is absolutely beautiful and provided us with a perfect holiday. I thoroughly recommend it. We've booked to return in February 2008, when we look forward to experiencing La Loma and the surrounding area in a different season.

We booked La Loma for a week in October hoping it would provide an opportunity to chill out and relax in the sun, far from the maddening crowd - and we can 100% say we were not disappointed. In fact the holiday was more that we could have hoped for, primarily as a result of our wonderful hosts and their beautiful property.

La Loma is an old farmhouse lovingly and tastefully restored by it's owners, Martin and Gaynor. It is set in the hills overlooking lake Iznajar - if you think the views look good on the website they're even better in reality! The accommodation was perfect - having been recently constructed eveything was fresh and new. We even had Sky television and a DVD player. Prior to arriving we had planned a few daytrips but as the week wore on the lure of the view and peace and tranquility of La Loma was much too strong so we only managed one day away to Granda (a beautiful city). Given La Loma is only 25 minutes from the the motorway we could have done lots more - but we were on holidays!!

Apart from the views, the acommodation and tranquillity of La Loma the other abiding memory of our stay was the warm, friendly and genuine manner of Martin and Gaynor. They organised provisions for us for our arrival, booked tickets to Alhambra, provided a library of DVDs for our use and much more - all without fuss whilst still leaving us ample privacy.

In conclusion, we had a wonderful stay in La Loma which has been lovingly restored by Martin and Gaynor who take an immense pride in their property and their ability to make your holiday as memorable as possible. Anyone looking to relax in beautiful surroundings wil certainly not be disappointed.

This was our first experience of mainland Spain and, for a chill out kind of holiday, it could not have been bettered. My wife and I spent a week here in the high season and, as we enjoy walking and the first morning turned out to be slightly overcast with a temperaure of only 22, we decided we would walk to the nearby town of Iznajar. Standing by the excellent pool at La Loma one can almost reach out and touch the town it seems so close. Although our hosts, Martin and Gaynor did warn us about the heat later in the day we went off with the reassurance that if we needed help we were to ring them. The quiet road to Iznajar twists around and up and down until it crosses the long bridge across the lake into the town. The sun was quite high by the time we arrived so we bought some meats, cheeses, tomatoes, bread and olives at a small supermarket, sat on a roadside seat under the trees and quickly ate our lunch before turning back. The temperature was probably around 30+ by that time, but being true Brits the stiff upper lip wouldn't let us call for help. The road back to La Loma is rather more up hill than down and we were becoming a little concerned by the soaring heat from the sun. We need not have worried! Our hosts had also warned friends who lived in the area to look out for two mad English who were out in the mid-day sun. It wasn't long before a Suzuki 4x4 appeared from behind as we crawled up a steep slope. "You must be Gaynor's guests" came the call from behind the wheel. " Jump in". We did, and were whisked back to La Loma. We spent the rest of the afternoon where we should have started the day - down by the pool, drinking wine and beer and then barbecuing our food. After that experience we succumbed to the true nature of La Loma in high August - just chill.

We stayed in the one bedroom apartment with its own private, shaded terrace. Like the whole site it was comfortable, very clean and well appointed. All the basic supplies that we could need were provided on arrival and anything we ran out of could be borrowed from Martin until we could replenish them from the supermarket.

The pool and its surrounds are quite spectacular. It is an excellent size for the small number of people accomodated and the surrounding terrace is well equipped with sun loungers, cushions and umbrellas. The views over the mountains and lake are spectacular and on a clear day you can see across to the Sierra Nevada. (We moved on to a 4 star hotel in Aguilas, Murcia, for our second week in Spain and we really missed the space, the tranquility and the views that we enjoyed around that pool in La Loma.) Martin tends the pool everyday to ensure that the water is clean and kept full. It is quite surprising that the many little birds which swoop so gracefully over the surface just sipping the water can drink so much!

La Loma is isolated, but the roads in the area are mostly as good, or better, than you'll find in some parts of rural UK, our hired Ford Focus automatic managed very well. The nearest neighbour is a little goat farm half a mile down the road which can supply fresh milk if you wish, and the local towns and villages are interesting and offer a range of bars and restaurants as well as a number of historical sites. Being newbies to the area we took advice from Martin and Gaynor as to where to visit and particularly enjoyed their recommendation of Prego da Cordoba where we were equally impressed with the service we received at the Tourist Information office. We didn't do the major cities of Cordoba or Granada on this occasion, we've left them for a future visit.

Martin and Gaynor manage to tread that fine line required of successful hosts by being there when you need them and by being invisible when you don't. They take great pride in ensuring that your needs are met and will do all they can to ensure that you enjoy your holiday at La Loma. Their Basset hounds are gorgeous and will nibble at your toes whilst you stand chatting. They had two dogs whilst we were there but we understand that they've now rescued a third that we've yet to meet. (In my next life I want to come back as a La Loma Basset Hound.)

We had a fantastic time and a completely stress busting holiday at La Loma and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a rural holiday exploring the local communities, historical sites and taking in the remarkable scenery.

At the end of September, early October my wife and I stayed at La Loma for 9 days.

The accomodation is excellent with all modern facilities available and a pool with a view of the Sierra Subetica across the valley, that is fantastic. La Loma is an ideal location to get away from the hustle and bustle of the 21st century. It is peaceful and in a beautiful location, with many sites to visit not far away.

The owners of the property live close by on site, and will help you as much as you want or if you prefer to be left in peace you will be. They will help and advise you on seeing the local sites in the area and will even assist you in getting tickets to the Alhambra in Granada. A must see jewel in your life time.

La Loma is easily accessible and only an hour north of Malaga and you do not need a 4 x 4 to get there.

Would we stay again? Yes, most definitely.

Unsually, we came to Cortijo La Loma to hold an offsite meeting. Most people come to relax; we came to work on the beautiful terrace and ended up having a wonderful time and relaxing stay. Martin and Gaynor could not have been more helpful with all our unusual requests. We only wished we could have stayed longer and flown the families in for a holiday.

We enjoyed a wonderful week at La Loma at the end of July 07. It is by far the best self-catering accommodation in which we have ever stayed. We received a warm welcome on arrival /cold drink / cake and were shown the facilities and provided with a prize winning welcome pack that fed us for days. It was a pleasure to swim in the large, immaculately clean pool and at the same time have a spectacular view of the hills and Lake Iznajar. The hosts bent over backwards to be friendly and hospitable, but they took care not to intrude. The apartment was well equipped - with the sort of touches one would expect to find at home. Everything worked perfectly.
Accessed on good tarmac roads La Loma has many picturesque towns a reasonable drive away: Iznajar, Archidona, Loja, Priego de Cordoba and Antequera. They all have restaurants and supermarkets. In addition Malaga, Cordoba, Granada and even Seville can be reached using the excellent Andalucian motorways. ... However we hardly left La Loma; we so loved its quiet position and breathtaking views. We cannot wait to go back.

We spent two lovely weeks at La Loma during August 2007. This tranquil and peaceful location has a stunning view across the valley, which can be viewed while relaxing on the terrace or lounging in the swimming pool where the swallows fly by and skim the surface for a quick drink! ! We took full advantage of the ideal distance between Granada and Cordoba, regularly visiting these lovely cities and their nearby towns.
Martin and Gaynor were always friendly and helpful, offering to pick up food from the supermarket and suggesting many excellent local attractions to visit.
La Loma is beautifully furnished and is an ideal location to chill out and fully experience rural Spain and it comes highly recommended from the whole family.
