“Never Again!”
Reviewed 5 October 2009

We stayed here in January for a week. Admittedly, this was not our first preference for accommodation however as everything else was booked out we had to settle here.
We liked being on the beach however the actual hotel is VERY average. The rooms are basic and the bathrooms were not clean - and very small.
Every day, you would literally have to get down to the pool first thing to try and secure yourself a seat - clearly too many guests for pool lounges! And I definitely would not recommend stying here if you are not a smoker as it seemd every person around the pool (and in the pool at the pool bar) continually chain smoked.
Staff spoke very limited English hence trying to organise anything was an effort in itself. And they were not overly helpful.
Although the hotel website promotes this hotel as being quite 'upmarket' and 'luxurious' I would say it is the complete opposite. I would not give it more than 3 stars on a good day. I found the whole place rather tacky and cheap and that includes the clientele!
I will never go back nor would I recommend it to any of my friends.

Have visited Phuket 14 times and always stayed at Patong Beach at the Patong Merlin or Holiday Inn! This time I was travelling solo for a relaxing break and didn't want the noise, hustle & bustle so decided to check out Kata Beach. After reading lots of reviews online I chose to stay 12 nights at the Kata Beach Resort and Spa and would definitely go back. Seaview rooms are quite nice and very roomy. Take a small clock as there isn't one in the room; they don't have irons or ironing boards either and it wasn't noted in the room directory as available so I didn't ask. Staff were very friendly but the pool service does not exist!!! Could not believe it! After staying at other hotels where you don't have to leave your sun lounge to order or receive drinks, light meals etc., this was a real eye opener. The staff were there - they just didn't want to 'do the rounds' as I would have thought was their job! So I visited the 7/11 across the road and bought my own drinks and nibbles. Fresh fruit is readily available everywhere so eating is cheap! The resort really is beachfront - you could throw a stone from your balcony onto the sand and sunlounges with umbrellas were available for 100bht per day. The guy really keeps an eye out for everyone too - if you need a cold drink or food - the hut is right there! You still get the 'travelling shopping show' but I find that interesting and they don't hassle you when you say no. Certainly not anywhere as busy as Patong and the beach is far superior. Good restaurants/shops/markets/pharmacyATM etc are just over the road so you really don't have to leave Kata Beach if you don't want to. One tip - when visiting Junceylon shopping centre in Patong , make sure you go down the escalators below street level to the markets. They have the most interesting and unique treasures - some I had never seen before in Thailand. Some great pressie ideas that are not the usual cheap t shirts, sunglasses etc. All in all a good holiday (was unsure of the weather but apart from a couple of days of rain it was great) and will go back.

Entrance in Asian Style to confort you in having book an Asian hotel.

It is a super hotel but some details are not corected since long. I thing this is a difference between a not Thai management and a Thai management. I believe Thai Management is more laxist on details... Otherwhise this hotel is super nice (more for family).

Will suit if you like hanging out in airport terminals. Huge and crowded even in low season. Beach location is the best thing about it- Room ok and roomy enough beds quite ok -tv channels good.B
But disappointing overall.
Disinterested staff who from check in didn't seem concerned that my door lock wouldn't work and that a drill was going most hours nearby- I made sure to be moved -above the breakfast area was far better with partial seaview.Check in desk a littel more pleasant than in house crew.
Get in early for breakfast -a bunfight-and avoid the coffee and the longlife milk on breakfast tables.Be prepapredto have to pay for everything extra -no wirless and $450 baht per day internet access.Transport in Phuket is very expensive via taxis and tuk tuks which are making it better to rent a bike or car.
Book in to Mama Tris or Sawasdee Village- way way better

As in the title, this hotel is on the great beach of Kata. Other hotel's i've stayed in, in this area are good but require transport to the sand. Walking out of reception also puts you into the town with all the amenities needed.
August being low season still saw the hotel busy, we had a child with us of 6 years who had plenty of company in this family orientated hotel.
Be aware though that the sea being rough had a lot of undercurrent and tales of tragedies on this coastline this time of year are numerous. Heed the red flags they are there for a reason.
Rooms and bathrooms are adequate and found little faults of note except our AC struggled and the last 3 days of calling it out to be fixed were in vain, yes the technician was called out 3 times but I believe he assumed I knew nothing of the system and so blathered BS.
Breakfast was OK, standard in hotels of this quality, but the evening buffet's were disappointing, low on quantity of choice, better food found outside of the resort.
We paid a low rate as we found it cheaper to bargain on the phone for a lower rate than on all websites searched.
All in all, well worth the money, great location, and would certainly recommend a visit.

My husband and I traveled to Phuket in March of 2008. We loved the island, LOVED the beach (Kata beach...way less crowded than more well known beaches), but the hotel was just so-so. The photos online make it look grand, but it's just average (from the opinion of an American who travels all over the world). I would not recommend eating at the resort because the food is cheaper and better at restaurants on the street. The breakfast buffet is very good though. The bed is hard, and the maids keep the doors open while cleaning, so your room fills up with mosquitos which feed on you all night long.

If you really want to stay at a nicer resort on Kata Beach, look at Mom Tri's Boathouse...it's a lot more expensive, but it's a gorgeous secluded property with some of the best views. I will definitely save up more money to stay there next time. Kata Noi beach is well worth a visit (10 minute walk away from Kata Beach) and is a quiet peace of heaven! There is also a very nice looking resort on that beach, but unfortunately I didn't catch the name.

If you end up staying at Kata Beach Resort, you won't have a ruined trip....you will still have a great time and enjoy the benefits of staying at an affordable, nice resort in Phuket. It's definitely one of the better options on that side of the island. Just not the best!

Good hotel, nice pool. Good location with lots of Thai resturants around. Very good beach and cove with a nice view of an island off shore.
TIP- To book a James Bond Island tour, use Pia's Tour & Travel just across the street and to the left about 250' . It's then about 40' back from the sidewalk in a little booth. Ask for "Chicken" her real name is Kai Khun [--] phone. She had great prices- negoiate a bit. We booked Sea Canoe's James Bond Island tour 10am-6pm. Seems like no matter which tour company you pick they all do they same tour and use the same canoe paddlers to the caves- A MUST DO. Back to ther hotel. Big breakfast buffet with a lot of choices. Poor shower head, ugly halls and exterior. Good price through Agoda.com
People do hog pool chairs at 7am- GET A LIFE PEOPLE. Interesting lobby. Plenty of stores, ATM, 7-11 across street for beers and water. Kata Beach is beautiful. Stayed here two nights so we coluld do the James Bond tour then headed to Phi Phi Island Village on Koh Phi Phi for four nights. This is a good hotel for 3-4 nights with no special occasion. If you're doing a Honeymoon or anniversary, notch it up a bit and go to Phi Phi Island Village- much more quiet and remote but very special and romantic.
