We ate here twice during our stay in Kata.
First time was on a whim - we'd planned to go to the night market but it was chucking it down - so rang up on the off chance they'd have a table free, as we were told you need to book in advance. Turns out they did, so an hour later they sent a car to pick us up - really nice touch incidentally, air conditioned car to take you to & from your hotel. We arrived, had a drink in the bar, sun had set by then but still lovely to eat & drink overlooking the sea. Had such a nice meal that we booked again for a few days later!
The second time, there was a bit of an issue - we'd changed hotels, I'd emailed management to advise of this and had a confirmation email back. However, somewhere between management and restaurant staff there was a miscommunication and they sent a car to the wrong hotel, we weren't there so they cancelled our table! Eventually we got the staff at our new hotel to ring up and they sent a car - when we got there the head waiter was quite rude & sarcastic to us, obviously insinuating it was our fault we'd turned up late, when the truth was we were waiting early outside our hotel for the car to pick us up. Was quite annoyed by this, especially considering the fault clearly lay with bad communication between management & restaurant staff; would have expected the head waiter to be more understanding. However, the rest of the waiting staff - especially the bar staff - were fantastic; friendly, efficient, helpful, even offering to take photos.
Anyway, that aside, the food itself - amazing, easily the two best meals we had on our holiday. You'd expect this at the price, but I can't understand reviews I've read where people are complaining about the price. I've eaten in far worse restaurants in England and paid much more for the "privilege". Portions are extremely generous too - tip; only get a starter and a main each if you're starving as you won't finish it all!! Wine is expensive, but beer & cocktails are extremely reasonable (bottle of beer for £2 is amazing for a restaurant like this). View is great and the staff really do look after you from start to finish. In total we paid about £70 both times for starter & main each and 3 beers & 6 (delicious) cocktails. Entirely reasonable given the quality of food & setting.
We hope to return to Mom Tri's Kitchen if we visit Kata again - just hope there's no repeat of the reservation incident!!!
