Second best Ibis I have stayed in. The best being in Bangkok (maybe because it is on the river and larger). However good experience, staff pleasant and helpful, location good, shuttle bus to the beach which is very nice. Walk in either direction and you will be swamped by shops, bars and restaurants. The pool is good and other amenities typical of Ibis hotels. For $40 Australian per night, excellent price. Breakfast cost 2 of us $8 for a buffet, not the best, but not the worst meal. The Russians seemed to dominate the place for my five nights, a few french and Chinese also. Don't be put off though. The Russians were not unfriendly, no late night partying, no bad manners etc. The staff seemed determined to visit Australia, perhaps the manager could put them on an exchange, they deserve it, and also would improve their English (language seems a common issue in Thailand - not that I care).
In summary, a very good, value for money hotel, you would struggle to get a better deal for this price.

Room Tip: Maybe get the end rooms away from the lift - not a noisy hotel, but you can hear those noisy people...

Due to a technical problem with our flight home, Jetstar put most of the passengers from the cancelled flight up here for a night, including us. We arrived upset and confused at 3am. The staff did all they could to get us in our rooms as fast as possible, but as you could image, 100 people all mad about not getting their flight was always going to be difficult and not everyone happy. But the two guys on were efficient and did their very best.
I wasn't expecting much from the room, and it was a shoe box in size, but it was pretty OK. Sure, very small, and basic, but the bed was very comfy and pool pretty nice. Our room and bathroom were both clean, but we did hear from other passengers that some of their rooms smelled damp and some had mould issues. But we really couldn't fault ours. The bathroom, however, is a cupboard in size with a shampoo/body wash/conditioner all-in-one pump bottle in the shower and hand basin as the only supplied toiletries. The toilet paper holder in under the sink and there is barely enough room in the shower to turn around.
We had lunch poolside and the staff were helpful and friendly, and food good. Breakfast was OK but not a lot of choice.
Location was great- right in the heart of Kata town. For a night it was OK. For a young group doing schoolies etc it would be great too. I'd say it's about a 3 star hotel, and rate it more a 3.5 / 5 overall.

Room Tip: I think rooms that face the front/street may be better.

I stayed there 1 week:
Too many Russians!!!
Breakfast is really bad, 1st time I see green scrubble eggs...
Otherwise the staff is good.
Rooms are standard. Quite expensive though for Thailand.
There are about 90% of Russians in the city. All is made for them and everything is written in Russian as they don't speak a word of English. This is not Thailand!

Dear Thomas D,

We are very sorry that you were not entirely satisfied with your stay.

Please rest ensure that the point you mentioned about the breakfast is definitely not our usual standard of quality and I will investigate with our Chef and F&B leader to see what had happened and how to make sure it does not happen again.
Thank you so much for having brought this to our attention.

Fortunately, it seems that our staff members have made a good impression on you and were able to deliver an efficient, helpful and responsive service.

We hope you will give us another chance to show you our best and please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.

We have just spent 2 lovely weeks in Kata And We booked a family room, and it was just perfect for us. The room is actually really big, with a sofa and a big and nice bathroom, where the shower was huge :)
The bed is great, if you like hard mattress, and the extra bed, it's an actual bed and not the usual folding bed. after few days, we put the mattress on the floor so our kids could sleep easily so they couldn't fell on the floor ;)

The room is nice, modern, and we had 2 small balcony, facing the entrance, were you can hang your wet towels or bathing suite. The hotels provide you, with beach towel everyday, you can use them both for the pool and for the beach. So leave your beach towel at home :)

The breakfast was the only minus... There is actually everything you need, fresh fruits, toast bread, marmalade.. Eggs.. Cereals... But I m sorry to say, that probably the quality wasn't the best..

We have enjoyed a little bit the pool area, small, but just fine, kids pool is fine. You can get also massages there.

There is a free shuttle that each 10-15 min. Takes you to the beach otherwise is 10 min walking and you can rent 2 sun beds and a umbrella for 200THB, just rember to go on yr left to the next bar on the beach.. They are nicer ;)

Free internet WI-FI it's great.

The hotel actually is great, with lovely personnel, although I hope they will learn English better, specially at the reception :) BUT we aware of the RUSSIAN, which they are basically 99% of the presence! that with their rudeness to the staff and even to other customers is unbearable ... I just don't understand how kind the staff can be with these kind of people..... And for this reason... I don't think I can came back to the hotel.. For the Russian tourists...

Room Tip: Room #251 :)

My friends and I were recommended to stay here from trip advisor for a place to relax after the full moon party on our last two nights traveling. It was not relaxing at all.. full of rude people and crazy children all over the show. Hardly anyone there spoke english, even the workers. Was a good 10min walk to the beach but had to walk through a horrible smelling walk way to get there. Im not one to complain but it was the worst part of our holiday.

+ The hotel is rather new and clean, nothing too fancy but better than the other Ibis I have visited else where. Quiet.

- The swimming pool is VERY cold (like 20-22 degres), the location is average: right in front of the "Club Med" which is pretty much a 2km long wall so you have to walk 10 minutes to go to the beach.

I stayed at the Ibis Kata (not to be confused with Ibis Patong) before a dive liveaboard with my friend. We arrived late the first night & stayed a second night before being collected to board the Aggressor dive charter operator as this one of the collection points in Phuket. Upon first entering the hotel, you notice it is a part of a franchise with no sense of individuality or charisma. Nevertheless, the foyer is fresh, open and airy.

The room had two king single beds (with a recessed space underneath to allow for baggage stowage), two tiny bed side shelves with overhead wall mounted lamps and the smallest possible luggage bench ever made. A flat screen tv was wall mounted opposite the beds. A small fridge (with 2x 500ml glass bottles of water, replenished daily) was underneath a small linen closet. An electronic room safe, a couple of clothes hangers, two beach towels & laundry bag were inside. There were only two power points in the room, with only one operational – not very convenient when you have a number of appliances needing charging. Tea/coffee making facilities are provided. The beds were very comfortable, with crisp linen and doona. The pillows on the other hand were lumpy & uncomfortable. An adjoining small balcony had two seats, a table & twin rack for clothes to dry. I set up a camping clothes line so we had more line space. The window & door to the balcony were glass with sun-block curtains. The room had constant air conditioning (no need for your room key to keep it running) which worked very well (operated: on/off, fan speed & temperature dial).

The bathroom was tiny & compact: small basin, toilet in the centre and a corner shower. Only two small bath towels, hand towels and a floor mat are supplied. Shower caps and a wall mounted pump hand wash and shampoo/conditioner are supplied. There is also a hair dryer. The shower water temperature & pressure were great. The worst thing was no exhaust fan, so very very stuffy during/after a shower.

I had full mobile phone reception and the Ibis offered free wifi if you have your own device, otherwise internet computers were in the lobby. A buffet breakfast is offered every morning, with a good selection of fruits, cereals, pastries and cooked food, such as soup, local delights, eggs and sausages. The air conditioned dining room is overlooking the pool, adjacent to the lobby. The dining room is then available for lunch/dinner. There is no room service available however you can order meals at the downstairs cafe/restaurant and then either eat on your bed or pool side – prices are reasonable though the selection is minimal – I would suggest getting something from a close by restaurant and taking it back to you room. The hotel guide provided is very basic & not helpful. The pool area is compact & can get quite busy. Transfers are offered every 15min to Kata beach from 8.30am-4.30pm daily, which is only 200m (cutting through Club Med which is right across the road).

The hotel is located in Kata, a quiet part of Phuket which is relaxing & family friendly. No discotheques are allowed in Kata, so if you want to party, you had better take a 300-400 baht taxi one-way to Patong. Otherwise, enjoy the restaurants, bars, stores and day spas/massage parlours. There is an ATM right outside the hotel door with numerous ATM & money exchanges within a 2min walk, as too convenience stores/pharmacies. I can highly recommend for value, service and quality the Oriental Massage day spa located adjacent to the hotel entry. Airport transfers were AU$66 for the 45-60min trip.

Although well located, this hotel is only good for a short stop due to small rooms and amenities.
