The sunset view is great.

The food was ok, and the service was terrible.

Everything arrived in the wrong order. Mains before starters, with starters, and some of the group had to wait a lot longer than others. Some people got nothing until they asked several times, and they appeared to intentionally avoid your gaze.

The toilets were disgusting, with a door open to the derelict buildings underneath, which was very interesting and equally unsafe for kids, even for Thailand.

Despite lots of staff, the service was in disarray. My green curry was very dry and a request for more sauce fell on deaf ears.

If you really want to see the sunset in Kata, this may be the best place (reviews for the After Beach next door are bad, and the restaurant was empty), but we wouldn't come back here either, or recommend it...

When all else failed, we hired a bike and took the short 5 minute trip up the hill to Baan Chom. You can't fault the service or the view here. We watched the sunset on most nights from here, and were wowed every time. This place is famous for its view, but what most people don't realise is that their food is also top quality. I'd recommend trying the Satay skewers for starts and the Panang Chicken with rice for a main - this was an amazing combination.

The mango shakes are also exquisite here.

And for those interested, Baan Chom is roughly translated to 'House with a view'.

We dined as a party of 9 and did not have a reservation. We were warmly welcomed and a larger table was constructed in minutes to accommodate our group.
One waiter in particular was excellent - offering suggestions for menu choices and placating my youngest daughter (who was getting tired and moody after a long day) with the offer of a "special milkshake" with cream on top - worked a treat.
We were left waiting for one family member's meal and had to ask for it. Service was wonderful from this one particular waiter, but average from the others - not bad. Just the little things - extra drinks etc - you needed to attract a waiter's attention. Having said that - we were not expecting 5 star service (nor paying for it).
Huge menu with choices to cater for all tastes.
All in all we had a great night and would dine there again.

We booked a table at the edge to experience a nice sunset, because of this we were still happy to have eaten there, the service was good too but the food was mediocre at best.

Too much suger in the mango shake, the red curry duck was served in yellow curry, they took it back to the kitchen and served it a few minutes later with some chili paste in it.

The shark tasted good but the spicy (not spicy!) curry soup was tasteless.

My recommendation: Just come for the view and forget about your taste buds.
