Came with high expectations. The Shore exceeded everyone of them. Am sitting by my pool watching the waves with great food & company as I'm writing this. The next vacation has big shoes to fill.

Celebrating 25 Years together we were looking for something Special to mark our Time away from a Cold Adelaide Winter - over a week long stay The Shore at Katathani provided us a Life long Memory that will be treasured for ever!

From the moment we walked into Reception and were greeted with Flowers, chilled towels and a refreshing Cashew Tea brew we were treated like the Royal Family!
At Reception Sopita looked after our every need, with the finest attention to detail.
Escorted to Room 8851 in our Buggy we found our room dressed with Flowers and the bed adorned with Swan like Heart shaped figurines as a welcome gesture!
Even photos taken on arrival ( and given back to us on checkout as a momento of our stay)

We have not experienced quality like this in Thailand; infact the Shores outdoes our stays at The Grand Hyatt HK, Grand Hyatt Shanghai, Langham in London to name a few.
The fit out is 7 Stars & the Cleanliness incredible ...
24/7 the Staff at your service - must mention some key staff like: Golf who looks after you along with Nadia down at the Harbour Restaurant for your seaside breakfast & Orr who pampers you in the Serenity Spa - they added incredibly to our Stay...

Every day was Paradise. The People, the Place, the Food - Treasure every Hour in Eden!

Congratulations to Peter Heppell on creating this " Gateway to Heaven "
We will be back...

We travelled here as part of our honeymoon at the end of a long trip round India to relax by the beach but wanted a peaceful stay away from a mass crowd, and that is exactly what you get. It was perfect, we booked a sea view room with pool. If you really want privacy as for room 8881 which is at the end of the row of a few bungalows and detached from all others so you havew the sea in front and the jungle/forest to your left, and well designed wall to the right to give you privacy from the next bungalow. While the rooms aren't cheap, actually room service and ammenities are reasonable, for e.g. we had two thai curries, drinks and dessert brought to us for about £25 for 2.

The resort is on Katanoi beach about an hour south from the airport in a car, and is at the far end of the beach and far end of the town, its probably about 20 min walk into town from the resort a tuk tuk will take you for between 200-300 bhat, and you can get taxi/tuk tuk to Patong the bigger resort about 35 mins away in car for about 400 bhat so if you want to go out you can.

The staff are attentitive, the spa isn't bad, the rooms are probably one of the best all round for a beach resort I've ever stayed in. I'd go again, great for place for a chilled out private break with no hassle from anyone by a good beach and you get your own private pool (and its not small or shallow). I'd go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room with a pool, room 8881

Great place. The rooms are fantastic - sparkling clean, gorgeous views, all amenities, the whole bit. You can dive into your own plunge pool right from the bedroom. Unlike a lot of these places, they have effectively cleaned out the whole hillside so it's all open: bright, sunny and no insects. This is the only such place I have stayed at where they have preserved all the great outdoor bathroom and shower feel while eliminating all the nuisances.

The pool down by the beach is superb - serene and lovely, right next to the beach and great place to tan and hang. The beach has a bunch of options for good local Thai food, drinks, massages, etc. for the usual local prices. You also have the option to go over to the main resort hotel if you want to although we tried it once and I wouldn't recommend it. It's obviously 1/3 the price of The Shore for a reason.

It is also a reasonable walk out front to a small row of shops with all the necessities. This place is great because it gives you total luxury while at the same time access to the mainstream if you want it. Most similar places to this are very isolated and you are at the mercy of the hotel, but at least here you have some options. Kata is 10 mins.

Cons: the food isn't very good and is expensive for what you get. Western dishes don't match the menu descriptions. Thai food is OK but portions are small, and over 300 Baht for dishes that you can walk 25 steps onto the beach and get for 60. Beers are extortionate and the one I bought was expired. The ambiance of the cafe is lovely, but THE MUSIC OMG! They play tinny elevator music over and over. If they could just get a CD of some chill out jazz it would take the whole place up about 5 notches. Instead we got instrumental Andy Williams (!!!).

You cannot tan in your private pool or poolside. The rooms are situated to maximize the views which means they don't catch direct sunlight to the small poolside areas. So if nude tanning is a goal for you with a private villa, don't stay here. Tanning at the infinity pool by the beach is one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. But it's clothed, of course.

My only other complaint isn't for them alone but lots of hotel like this too - why is stuff SO expensive when the local option is 20 steps away and 1/6 the price? If a massage on the beach is 200 Baht, why is theirs 1200? Obviously there has to be a premium, but frequently it's ludicrous. I'm happy to pay 3x or so, but 6x is over the top. An ice-cold Heineken was 60 at a lovely little bar on the point called The Rocks, while the one at the hotel beach bar was lukewarm, expired, and 300. Say no more.

Great place overall and we loved it. Definitely will go back.

The hotel is wonderful, rooms are great! We had Seaview villa, hidden from other rooms, so when in the infinity pool or around it, noone can see you from the beach or anywhere. Great for sunbathing nude. )))
The beach on which hotel is situated is fantastic! The sand is white and water is blue, just what you need.
Wi-fi internet is free and very accessable even from the beach connection is great!
There are couple downsides to this place, but i have to say we are quite fussy and spoilt for choice:
1) Sundeck chairs on the beach are not hotels property and you got to pay separatly. 100baht/chair. I think in Thailand beaches are municipal property, and hotels generally are not allowed to have their staff on the beach.
2) Breakfast is boring here!! We stayed for 8nights and everyday you get same menu. Really not exciting at all!! In comparison we went to Philippines, Borracaya island in 2009, and stayed at Friday's at price about 300$/night. Breakfast was excellent, with new delicious menu everyday. I expect at hotel where we pay almost 800$ a night some more attention and improvisation on breakfast menu.
3) Lobster dish at hotel is really nothing special, and very overpriced. After spending 1700baht just on lobster dish (not to mention others) - my hasband was still hungry! He had starters as well, but lobster was very small, and nothing special to taste. If you are not too crazy about lobsters - i would miss it out at this hotel, as it is a ripoff, and not correctly priced for such small piece.
These are really verys small details which make up the bigger picture. Apart from that everything else was superb.
Do come here, as I believe managers will try to improve where possible.

Room Tip: 8871 is best

We stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and were absolutely blown away. The hotel is definitely expensive, but worth every penny. The resort grounds are breathtaking and our room was by far the best room we have ever stayed in. Waking up with the view of the sea every morning never got old. The private pool in the room is actually huge, we spent some time in this pool but also a good amount of time by the main infiniti pool on the extremely comfortable lounge chairs. Breakfast is great, especially the private breakfast they bring up to your room one morning. For lunch, we either ate at the pool or went down the street to the public restaurants which are great and very reasonable. Dinner we had at the hotel one evening (excellent) and also ventured out to some great romantic spots. The beach is beautiful, there is some great snorkeling right off the rocks where we actually saw more fish than on the phi phi islands. Overall, a great time! I was so sad to leave. I really hope we can make it back to the Shore someday!

having been to many pool villa resorts in thailand, this is by far the best experience. the view from the room is astonishing. service was better than other 5-star claimed resort. staff is very well trained. every touch-points of the guest is met by thoughtful service. cant compliment more. very recommended for honeymooners, couples, and vacationers. also, free wifi (some 5 star resort, there's a free 30 min. or so). the club car comes to pick up in front of room very quickly (a few minutes after calling).
