Very nice and modern place a bit pricey but all in all it was a very nice room with nice modern bathroom. It also has a nice swimming pool which is very convenient. Location was perfect about 15 mins walk to the beach and lots of massage parlours on the way.

First point is that no taxi drivers seem to have heard of this place - we gave them both names 'Baan Nueng Kata and Kata Orient House' but no one seemed to have a clue. In the end, the drivers called each time and managed to find it (we stayed at the beginning of our trip for 1 night and then 2 nights at the end after travelling around several islands.)

Rooms are quite basic (and fairly old) but clean. Very friendly staff, walking distance to beach/bars/restaurants and free wifi in room.

Having said that, there are better places to stay at this price point and Kata has gone down hill in my opinion since we last stayed 5 years ago. Kata is now far busier and is quite built up now - there are much nicer beaches/islands to stay on so next time we will probably skip Phuket if we go back to this part of Thailand.

The pool has dark blue tiles that really show up anything in the pool (oil/sun cream/debris etc) so it wasn't a particularly great experience to take a dip in the pool.

If you find yourself in Kata and just want a cheap place to stay then this might be fine, but there are better places available in my opinion.

The taxi drive from patong to the baan nueng was a bit complicated- the taxi driver had no clue where it was even after we told him the kata orient and we ended up going halfway up a hill in kata. In the end the taxi driver called the reception and was extremely apologetic about getting lost. When we first got to the baan nueng it was 8 at night and all we could see was the back of a building that looked dodgy and worn but after we got to our room- one of the newer poolside rooms, we were very happy. The room was very clean, the bathroom modern and even a giant tv that came out of the wall. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast selection is quite basic but still delicious. The pool is nice but with a lot of chlorine, but has a lot of deck chairs to hang out near the pool and sunbathe. The baan nueng is about 10 minute walk to kata beach as you have to walk all the way around some large beach front resorts, but is surrounded by cheap yet clean restaurants and massage parlours (go to the one directly next door for not so dodgy service). The only real cons were the water supply was off twice when I wanted to shower, and the mattress was harder than I'm used to which resulted in a sore back- nothing a thai massage can't fix! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Pros:
Hotel is very good, high standard, staff very friendly & helpful, tea, juice and cold facecloths upon arrival, nice touch!

Standard Twin room was good, everything was clean, fresh sheets, shower and bathroom were good. Mini-bar, TV with lots of channels, air-conditioning. Consisted of a big double bed and a smaller single bed.

Pool was nice, plenty of deck-chairs, flowers and plants everywhere around the pool area, was beautiful. Pool itself was clean and large.

FREE WIFI throughout our stay! Good connection, never wavered. A necessity of any European visiting Thailand.

Hotel is small and nice, Just the right size, in a good quiet area of Kata and within walking distance to all the good restaurants and shops etc.

Staff all good English speakers, and plenty of Europeans staying here, don't be confused and think it will only be those from the Orient.

Kata itself is lovely, we stayed a few extra days here than we had planned, would recommend highly.

Cons:
Originally booked for standard room, 2 twin beds, upon arrival they stated they didn't have any left, no email or attempt to contact us before. Wasn't impressed. Gave us an upgrade to a superior room with one large double bed, now this room was beautiful don't get me wrong, I would highly recommend it for a couple, but not what two lads want. Took me hassling them several times until they relented and got us a twin bedroom room. (Demand to speak to the manager - If your spending that amount of money, get what you pay for or go somewhere else, plenty of Hotels will want your business)

Taxi drivers had difficulty knowing where this place was when first stated 'Baannueng@Kata', tell them The Kata Orient House.

Overall apart from our small blip at the start, I would highly recommend The Kata Orient House.

Room Tip: Couples - Superior Double room, they are stunning, overlook onto the pool area. Travelers - Standard rooms are just fine.

Very nice staff and fixed the leaking fridge right away. The rooms are a bit dark. They are building new rooms by the pool that are nicer with window all around. 20 minutes to big Buddha and worth seeing. Taxi took us for 800 baht round trip and he waited for us with our belongings.
