“Ruined the whole hioliday”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

I travelled with a friend and booked 3 nights at this resort. I specified this on the original booking form and the need for twin beds. Upon arrival we were early and unable to check in so left luggage and returned at 8.30pm. When shown to the room discovered a king size bed and made up couch that would barley sleep a child! I stated this was not a twin room and was told my request was "subject to availability". After further protest I asked to speak to the manager. The same person returned saying they could not accommodate my request and then tried to challenge I had even asked for a twin room, it was clear that this was not the case as the second "bed" on the couch had clearly been made up to serve this purpose. There was no offer of an upgrade or seperate rooms so I demanded a refund.............this was denied. I then demanded they find us alternative accommodation. This was eventually offered at the Sugar Palm Resort closer into Kata and a very tired resort under renovation. I would not trust this resort again.

Room Tip: Make sure you confirm the room you booked is what they can deliver.

Basically the hotel is good, good location and helpful staff. I just love the sailor theme design. Just that the housekeeping is a bit loose. One day, they forgot to refill the amenity. The other day, they forgot about the towels. But all in all, it is good value of money.

The outlook style and interior design is good which make me feel so relax to stay here. We stayed in deluxe pool access room which is very conveninent to jump into pool directly.

Service is good but improvement of their English is needed, breakfast there are quite good with different varities of food.

Location is fine as it nears Kata Beach which only take you 5 minutes by walk.

One concern is the wifi connection is not strong enough.

Overall, I highly recommend this resort as the environment, rooms and service are good with a reasonable price.

A vey good option for travelers who want to visit Kata Beach. Near the beach...new hotel...relatively clean...very comfortable beds.

Hotel stuff should improve on their English but then again all Thai people have a communication gap...so not much to say there.

Cheap and comfortable...had a nice enjoyable time back in August. Recommend it for travelers.

I really wanted to review this place because of how much I liked it! Most importantly, it is between Kata Beach and Kata Noi, so you can easily get to both with a 5-10 min. walk. (I do have to say it's on a hill, although it's a very small hill, it's a hill so consider this if you are in a wheelchair or have bad knees.) From the moment we arrived, the staff was so kind and helpful, by far the best hotel staff I've ever encountered. And the decor was so cute - sailor theme throughout, even down to the "Do not disturb" signs. The pool is a saltwater pool which I enjoy better than chlorine pools, and they provide a few free items in the minibar everyday, including soda and beer! I also liked the area SOOO much better than Patong - 10x less hectic and annoying in my opinion. I would happily go back to Sugar Marina.

Room Tip: We did not get a pool view, and so our view was not very nice. But honestly that did not matter to u...

We had an enjoyable stay here. Will definitely stay there again if the price is right. I wouldn’t really call this a resort . It’s just another hotel rather than a resort as the place is rather small and compact.

Location
Perched on a hill at the tail end of Kata Beach and right before Kata Noi Beach. A 5mins walk downhill to Kata Beach – not too crowded with some activities where the waves are just nice. I noticed some jet skiers and surfers here which could pose some danger to those in the sea.
Convenience store is further walk down the street – further than many hotels around the area, but manageable distance.
Located far enough from all the buzz in Kata main area so it was a good night’s sleep every night for the 5 nights we were there.
Kata Noi Beach is more private and a good 10mins walk. We went there once but the waves were way too strong there and the red flag was up. We headed over to Kata Beach where it was just perfect.

Room
Not huge but neither is it claustrophobic. Good sized with ample space for our 2 luggages and plenty of shopping. Has a large day bed that can accommodate a 3rd person in the room. Bed can be a bit hard but it is the norm in Asia – had good sleeps for all the 5 nights I was there.
Bathroom is nicely done with plenty of space. Others have complained about the sliding door that opens up to the room – no issues for me. We had it closed the whole duration and have no issues with smell. Some noise yes, but nothing to complain about.
Balcony is large and a nice place to sit and chill. It has ample railings to hang clothes to dry.
Coffee/Tea making facility available with Coke/Singha Beer/Carrot Juice/2 bottles of mineral water complimentary - restocked on a daily basis.

Pool
Fairly small and not shaded at all during the day time. A bit too scorching hot to be hanging around in the pool during the day time. Would have preferred a non salty water in the pool as it’s no different to the sea water. Nice to hang around in during the evening. Not many sun loungers near the pool area but it is sufficient whenever we needed it.
The lounging area kinda lacked privacy cause it was all very very close to the rooms with people taking photos from their room all the time.
Some additional palm trees close to the pool would help with a bit of shade during the day time.

Parking
Non-shaded but available on site with security though limited. It was sometimes full but I never had to park outside the hotel compound.

Service
Room well clean and stocked on a daily basis.
Receptionists are extremely friendly and will greet you whenever you walk past.
On our last night, we would like to extend our stay for another night or 2 and had requested if we could have the same rate that we paid for earlier. They told us to check online whether we could get that rate. Well, no luck for us – it was about USD100 per night should we want to book online that time. It wasn’t worth that price in Thailand so we left for another hotel.

Would agree with the previous reviewer that this hotel is better than some 5-star luxury hotels.
