“A truly relaxing experiance ..great resort for families..great value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2009

This was our first overseas holiday with our 2 year old son so we had to ensure we chose a suitable resort ..one that was family friendly, clean, affordable all with a taste of thai hospitality. As this was our first trip to Thailand and with so many resorts to chose from we simply felt over whelmed so I used trip advisor and found the comments and review extremely helpful. I googled top ten family resorts and started my research from there so I was certanly happy with Katathani. All the reviews were spot on!
Arriving in Phuket quite late in the evening from Singapore we were happy to see our car - our driver providing complementary ice cold bottle of water and refreshing cloth. The transfer was booked via the hotel at BHT 750.00. I would certainly suggest doing this for first time vistors as it can be quite intimidating and chaotic with the constant hasseling for business for taxi fares especially as first impression...many reviewers warned us about so called taxi mobs. The drive took one hour to the resort. Our room superior with pool view. The room was simple but large - huge- bed and newly reburbished bathroom. My only critisicms are small TV with only one Engish station with vision and audio out of sinc! The internet cost was THB 500 per 24 hrs, no bath ony shower and the beach is NOT private so to hire an umbrella and lounge will costs BHT 200 per day per lounge.
Beach towel and bag were provided for guests refreshed every evening. With four pool areas and gardens were extrremley spacious and immaculate so you could simply change the days swimming location BUT remember to save your beach lounge before breakfast. The buffet breakfast, which can get boring after the fifth day, was with fresh produce and continuously topped up though out the 6 - 10.30am time - but when you think about it how often do you change your breakfast at home anyway. We ate quite well and found we were fine until late afternoon. The room service and poolservice menu was basic and expensive for the BAHT with 200% markup from any meal purchased just outside the hotel. So many guests brought in take-away with no objection from hotel staff. The in house restuarants were disappointing as no true thai curries or noodles that arereadily available throughout Singapore ..they simply were too westernised...your could over hear guests requesting 'I dont mind herbs but no spice please!'
Were as when you eat in Singapore and you ask for chilly crab you get just that!
So we ate out every lunch and dinner at the four local eateries just outside the hotel at a quarter of the price. Meals were good and would recommend to eat here for all thai dishes incuding steamed fish. The only exception being the grilled seafood. Very expensive at BHT 200 per 100 grams for lobster or prawns as same price. They simply over cooked meat and it was not enjoyed -a waste of money. We did find that the fishermans market rest in the resort was an excellent alternative so when you want fresh shell seafood at only a small increase per gram in comparison strongly recommend you wisit this restaurant as cooked for perfection.
Taxi to Patong BHT 350 one way.The hotel can organise for BHT 200 per person in my case BHT 500 one way for party of 2 adults one child.
Patong was great to visiit but so glad to return back to the seclusion of resort. It was after looking at the other resorts along the way that we were so grateful we chose Katathani. Shopping in Patong unimpressive, especially after spending a few days in Singapore and with a toddler in tow. The resort had inhouse services for all beatty treatments .Took advantage of pedicure at BHT 150 soooo cheap!
In Patong sort the treatment of dentist at seasmile for Laser whitening with excellent result ..very clean and very professional. Highly recommended. Booke over the internet.
So overall the resort great location, great value and will certainly visit again but will stay longer!

My g/f and I recently enjoyed 10 days staying at the Katathani Beach Resort located on Kata Noi beach. I would not normally leave a review but I feel that this resort and particularly its lovely staff definitely deserve some nice comments!

On arrival we were greeted with the incredible "Thai smile" and the staff smiles didnt stop the entire time we were there;-)! The room was excellent, being a nice mix of traditional Thai and modern decor, The grounds were beautifully manicured and the pool layout was perfect! Its only a 2min walk to the beach and its particualrly nice knowing its for resort guests only.

I wouldnt recommend Katathani if your looking for a hectic party (even though its only a short taxi/scooeter trip away), but if you want to escape from the world by yourself or with a partner then this place is a must!

I will definitierly be returning to Phuket and will DEFINITELY stay at the Katathani Beach Resort!

We loved this hotel, which was the perfect contrast to our earlier stay in Bangkok.

The location, right on the fabulously uncrowded beach was superb. The palm lined gardens between the hotel and the beach are presented so wonderfully well and cared for.

You can sit on the beach and watch the most amazing sunset and local fishermen casting their nets from traditional Thai boats.

The staff are really friendly and the rooms were comfortable with a huge bed and stunning view out to sea.

It is a good hotel for families with children, although it was really quiet when we were there. There are plenty of lovely landscaped swimming pools and the beach is fantastically uncrowded. Just be aware of the rip currents as the waves can be quite impressive during the monsoon season.

You can even help the hotel staff clear the beach of driftwood each day!

The restaurants across the road offered really nice food at a reasonable price. There are more shops and restaurants at nearby Kata Beach which is only 300THB by taxi. If you fill the taxi, then it's really reasonable.

We spent 7 days here and had 2 organised trips with Diethelm Travel. The other days we went to Phuket City and Patong with the hotel minibus, which at 300THB was fine.

After visiting Patong, we realised how fortunate we were to be staying in Kata. Patong is OK for a night out but unless you enjoy being persistently hassled to buy a suit, watch or TukTuk, avoid it. Go to Soi Bangla for the experience, but other than that, it was an uncomfortable experience.

Would certainly stay at the Katathani again. You'd have to be pretty fussy to fault it.

I've satyed in phuket 5 times in the last 4 years and recently completed my third stay at Katathani. During my various trips, I've stayed in the 5 star resorts JW Marriot and Inidigo Pearl (see my Indigo review on TA), and dined at the Outrigger, Mom Tri's Villa Royale and Sri Panwa. Based on my experiences, the Katathani does not offer the 5 star rooms and attention to detail you would expect from a 5 star resort but it offers the most beautiful grounds & pools, the best beach front location and the most sincere hospitality in Phuket.

Katatahni has a wide choice of great restaurants within close proximity at Kata and Karon, and if you are looking for something more lively, Patong is only 15 minutes by taxi.

In a nutshell Katathani offers everything you need for great holiday.

P.S. I have also done most of the trips Phuket has to offer and on this occassion we tried the John Gray's sea canoes in Phang Nga, which has to be one of our most memorable experiences of Phuket, truly breathtaking.

Kata Thani was an excellent location, but can get expensive if you want to go to Patong often. The shop up from the resort (has scooters for rent - not the one directly oppositve the resort entry) is an excellent way to bargain trips to Patong - see Chee he's a good guy and much cheaper than Tuk Tuk or taxi (we hired scooters). The massage place just up further from Chee's is great - much better value than at the resort, but they were nice for a treat. There is a little bar when the tide is out on the far end of the beach heading south - pop down for a quiet beer (no-one seems to spot the shack) and watch the sun set. Also take the steps at the other end of the beach to get to Kata rather than have to hike the hill. The food at the resort a little expensive, but the Orchid across the road from the Kata Thani is great value and excellent food (we found this was the best one out of all of them) if you want to stay local. Plenty of other places in Kata if you want the walk.............. Enjoy - we loved it and would love to go back with the kids.

The place is far from the crowd of Phuket, very romantic and quiet. We loved the sandy beach (a lot of space for yourself), the beautiful fishes, the fresh tangerine juice... a great place for a family or a couple. We liked the style of the hotel, the gardens, the swimming pools and the restaurants. We'd love to go back!
