The Aspasia is an above average holiday resort hotel from which you can walk down to the beach
(quite a trek to come back up). I must was great and very spacious....it consisted of 2 bedrooms/ 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and a very spacious balcony. The apartment was clean and the staff were friendly. My only complaint was the noise of the airconditioning. The restaurant was good with some great specials.

Room Tip: Definitely choose an apartment on the level of the reception or one floor down on the level of the r...

We chose this hotel mainly for its location. The hotel is situated on top of hill beside kata beach. It offers a fantastic view of Andaman sea from its lobby as well as room. Kata itself is my favourite beach in Phuket for its exclusive blue water, scenic surroundings and awesome sandy beach, which is within walking distance from hotel.

On the positive side, the airconditioned rooms were extra spacious with big balcony attached (only the bathroom was as large as our hotel room in paris, which ofcourse was 3 times costlier as well). The hotel stuff was very helpful and good in english. The toiletries were in abundance. Two swimming pools and a little outdated gym situated on the ground floor of the large hotel area. The bunglow type hotel also offers you a calm, less crowded and peaceful environment. Lots of tour guides and souvenir shops are around if you just climb down the hill.

On the downside, the hotel is little old. Not that it will affect your stay badly, but you will not be impressed if you expect top-notch touch. The jungles around the area attract insects, so you better close your windows specially at night (we did that and never faced any issue inside our room). The hotel is on top of hill, so requires some efforts to climb up/down the slopy road by foot, but contradictory of some reviews, all taxis will drop you up on your hotel lobby.

Though the beach seems very close, it will actually take about 10 minutes of walking to reach there. There are two ways, one through the main road, and the other is a private staircase on the back side of the hotel. I recommend to use the first one as the back stairs are not very nice, made of random stone through the jungle characterized by insects, mud and bad smell.

With all the negative sides, the hotel is still highly recommended to choose for its extraordinary scenic surrounding view and extreme blue sea, extra spacious rooms, cost and most importantly its closeness to most probably the best beach of phuket.

We stayed 5 and 6 July as the previous two we had stayed earlier in our trip were no longer offering special prices. Aspasia was in some ways much nicer than Avista and Katathani Phutket Beach resort in that the room was really large and lovely and the outdoor corridors were colourful with attractive railings (although a veritable maze with dead ends everywhere which caused us to laugh but my child to fret). The restaurant is on a verandah with stunning view and breakfast and lunch were excellent. A ceiling fan in the bedrooms is a welcome find and the tiles were not the sterilie shiny white ones we had elswhere but instead lovely matte, sandy coloured ones which were soothing to walk on. The room needs a standard kettle not an urn. The bathroom and huge shower are a joy. The rooms are really tricky to find: (management really need to make some signs) but the unusual layout and colorful painted exterior make this place special. I dropped my wallet and it was returned to me the next day- service in general is excellent apart from two female waiters for breakfast: consistently sulky (most unusual as Thais are so hospitable and warm if treated well). This was the only negative aspect I encountered in the hotel. I enjoyed the lovely exchanges with all the other staff. Great to walk to beach via a short but steep path through a densely treed path (and awfully grotty canal)

Room Tip: Prob best higher up

First expressions are wow as the view out to the sea from the lobby/reception is amazing. The welcome drinks were delicious and the receptionist walked us to our rooms which was a necessity as the rooms would be hard to find with the layout of the place.

The sea view rooms have gorgeous views even from the bed. The rooms and bathrooms are huge but need better cleaning and upkeep. There are mouldy corners, the shower handle was coming off the hinges and toilet seats definitely need replacing. The paint is peeling from the walls.

I booked two rooms, one with queen bed and one with two single beds. I must say they were the tiniest single beds I have slept on.

They have OLD TV sets, and the kettle is so old fashioned, I haven't seen the kind in at least 20 years. It was near impossible to boil water in them for tea because the button for boil would hardly press and then it would shortly change to warm setting. The air conditioning units are super noisy! I couldn't hear the TV with the AC on.

And the worst bit about the hotel is the access to the beach! The way down is via quite unsafe ‘steps’. There is a bamboo hand rail part of the way. Then you have to walk next to a stinky water body before crossing it to get to the beach! I understand there is another way to beach from the main street. but we didn't try it cos were there only two days.

The walk up to the hotel from main road is quite steep and not fun in the heat.

Breakfast was standard. Drinks at the happy hour were delicious. The staff is lovely and the lady guard at the gate is super friendly and helpful.

lots of shops and cafes down the hill on the main road.

Some tips to get there: We took an affordable but slow 200 bht shared minibus from the airport which took about an hour and dropped us off in front of the lobby. Do not take a minibus if you are tired or in a hurry, for our driver took us to some random travel agent about 15 to 20 minutes out of the way to try to get us to buy some island hopping tours. A private taxi costs about 900 to 950 bht for one hotel drop off and will get you there much faster.

The place is amazing as everyone else said. Although this is not a 5 star resort, it is very nice for the off season price of about 55 to 60 usd including tax. I thought we were upgraded to a suite due to the size of rooms, interesting bathroom and view. Come to find out it was just the most basic one. The rooms are not new and are somewhat dated but again the rooms where much nicer than I thought. There is a bit of a moldy smell but the resort is in the middle of a jungle and many places smell like this. The staff try very hard to speak English and seem very shy more than most places I have stayed. They were all very friendly and willing to answer any question contrary to other reviews. The breakfast was sufficient and had some nice choices for the price. The elevator system is a bit confusing, and the front desk said the only way to our room was to walk up.

You can walk downtown by going to the right as you walk out of the lobby and down the semi steep hill. If you are too tired or have difficulty walking, the front desk can arrange a taxi but will cost 300 bht which is expensive considering the close walk. The main Kata town area is just a 5 to 15 minute walk depending on where you want to go.

I will stay here again and feel that it is a great place. Keep up the great service!

I like that this resort supports a relatively small number of guests (only about 46 suites and villas) but the grounds are very expansive and rooms extremely large and spacious. Clean and relatively new, but showing a bit of wear and tear in the bathroom. There are 4 floors spread out over lush gardens; it is very quiet and private and well situated affording wonderful seaviews. The resort is at the top of a hill so it is a bit of a hike without a shuttle, car or motorbike, but we easily rented a brand new motorbike at a very reasonable cost for 9 days (recommend renting from the nice Thai owner named "Tom" who owns the massage place at the bottom of the hill and her family owns and runs the Lucky Tom's restaurant in Kata Beach), and we had no problems getting around. Important Tip: you do NOT and should not have to surrender your passport nor even leave a deposit in order to rent a motorbike if you pay in advance and sign a contract, although it is strongly recommended to bring photocopies of your passport if needed and make SURE you wear helmets and carry an International drivers' license and ID because we got stopped by the police on a number of occasions where they set up checkpoints and if you get a ticket you will have to pay 500 Baht in cash immediately to a booth set up right there! Good breakfast which was never crowded, but didn't vary much each day (fruit, yogurt/cereal, baked goods, cold cuts/cheese, salad, and 3 Asian dishes such as rice porridge, noodles and rice); however you can get eggs and sides cooked to order any way you want each day. Staff was courteous and responsive when we needed to have them fix the ceiling fan (fixed by the 2nd day); also they helped us with printing out our boarding passes, holding our luggage until departure, and arranging for private transport to the airport. Rooms are very spacious and stylish with cool tiled floors, adjustable recessed lighting, and a large patio, and were cleaned promptly everyday to a satisfactory degree. Air-conditioning worked very well as did the free WiFi. I would recommend requesting a high floor and avoid getting a room that can be adjoined with a larger neighboring suite as you can hear your neighbors if they are loud. Beds are very firm as expected in Asia, but were still comfortable. I would however suggest that the resort consider upgrading to flat screen wall-mounted TVs in every suite (ours had an old CRT type TV in the middle of the room), and provide perhaps luggage racks, some chairs, mirrors, and surfaces to put your personal things on such as a dresser or a credenza, as we basically had one small desk and no where else to put our things other than in the wardrobe closet or on the floor and in our luggage. There is a ton of space but not alot of furniture to fill it (negative space although on the other hand that also allows for the occupants to walk around without it ever feeling crowded). Standalone shower was huge, open and circular which was a very unique design, and the bathroom very spacious. We did not use the "jungle trail" down to the north end of Kata Beach; however my husband reported that it is not at all a treacherous nor unpleasant walk down if conditions are dry. All in all I really enjoyed the resort for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, value, and nice location. I would recommend it and would choose to stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: Request a high floor suite that does not connect to a larger suite

Stayed for 4 nites. Rooms are nice and big but the mantainance of the rooms, specially air conditioners and the sleeping mattresses is poor. Out of 4 nites, 3 nites the air cons hardly worked, though the engineers spent nearly 10 to 12 hours rectifying them. Also they were unable to change the broken mattress. Property is well located but not maintained. Room service menu is very limited though they have big restaurant. The property has lot of potential if maintained. The access to the beach is not easy and through murky water. View from balcony was awesome. Staff is courteous and smiling. I feel the hotel needs a more effective housekeeping manager.
