“A faboulous base for the second half of our honeymoon”
Reviewed 17 August 2011

WOW!! This place totally exceeded our expectations, it was the second base for our honeymoon and it was breath taking!

This place is unique and has to be visited to be truely appreciated! The hosts are fab, the food was great, and as a veggie it was so good to have a choice of decent options for breakfast and not just a random veggie sausage taken out the freezer as an after-thought. I had a fab veggie grill with bubble and squeak and decent veggie sausages and everything else you would expect, the hubby had great full english breakfast and some friends we made over breakfast had such a fab looking and smelling fish-dish I was almost tempted to give up my strict veggie ways!

The rooms are tastefully decorated in a fun and imaginative way, I think from having a nose around and talking at breakfast that ech room is totally unique! We had a wet room en-suite and a massive double sized sink. The room was decadently decorated with plush pillows and cushions and we even had a leather arm chair. In the evenings we spent our time relaxing in the hot tub on the decking whilst watching the stars!

The service was fab, rooms were cleaned not whilst we were out for the day, but by the time we had finshed breakfast! The hosts recommended great palces to visit, and to eat, even making our reservation for us on the first night as we had no phone reception.
The hosts also soon cottoned on to the fact it was our honeymoon and on the last nght we came home to get ready for a final meal out to find trail of rose petals to our door, and our room scattered with fresh roses and confetti, home made choccies and botttle of wine! (I realised pretty quick that the hubby hadn't bothered to organise something this romantic, and it was all the hosts!)

What a fabulously romanitc way to end our honeymoon!

The biggest accolade I think this place can boast is that over breakfast another couple said that this was there second visit, and out of all the places they had stayed as a couple and claimed they would visist again, this was the only one they had ever actually gone back to.

I hope we get the pleasure of visiting a second time!

Room Tip: They have a seperate shack that looks super private and romantic, but we stayed in the bosue room, a...

We stayed at Lower Barn for 2 nights of our honeymoon in August. We chose the B and B because if it's proximity to Mevagissey where we'd spent childhood holidays, but the luxury of Lower Barn meant we wanted to get back to our room a lot quicker than normal on holiday! We stayed in the 'Hideaway', an amazing building tucked away in the garden and so incredibly romantic. The decor was beautiful and attention to detail brilliant, for example lots of milk so we could have lots of cups of tea rather than just one! We thoroughly enjoyed the huge bath, dressing gowns, box of chocolates, Robert's radio, choice of DVDs, homemade soap and all the other lovely details that made the room so special! The only problem is now I want to redecorate our house! On the first evening we booked dinner in 'The Shack', an amazing experience with lots of twinkly lights, squishy cushions and open fire. The homecooked food was delicious and we probably think better than the lunch we had at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen the next day. Breakfast was also great, particularly enjoying the fresh fruit platter and granola. Overall we were made to feel so welcome and enjoyed the individuality and personal detail that has gone into Lower Barn immensely. Thanks to Janie and Mike, we will be back!

We stayed for 5 nights at this beautiful B & B in a lovely part of Cornwall. I chose it because it was one of the few places which could fit our family of 5 in comfortably. We had 'The Hayloft' which was a large room downstairs with huge, comfy double bed, tv and wet-room, and upstairs the three children had a lovely room with its own ensuite shower-room. On the evening we arrived we had a delicious 3 course meal cooked by Janie, the owner, and served in the very romantic 'Shack' along with two couples also staying at the time. The delicious breakfast was served around an enormous table in the owners' conservatory/dining room. A beautiful platter of fresh fruit was followed by a delicious full English Breakfast, although one morning my husband chose to have smoked haddock instead - equally delicious. The decor of Lower Barn is fabulous - lovely colours and quirky touches everywhere, and the welcome of Janie and Mike was so warm and genuine. The weather made the holiday perfect, with plenty to do in the local area, such as crabbing in Mevagissey, visiting the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden project and taking a ferry to nearby Fowey. This was such a wonderful find.

Stayed in this Bed & Breakfast for 5 nights in June and loved it. Very modern and comfortable rooms, ours had ramped access and a good sized wetroom so wheelchair access was absolutely fine for us. A shower chair can also be provided. If you want any massage treatments book early so not to be disappointed and I would definately advise booking in for an evening meal, it was served in a converted garage complete with log fire and fairy lights and it was the best meal of my whole time in Cornwall. Janey, Mike and staff were very friendly and I would love a return visit.

My Husband and I stayed at Lower Barn in May. We found it in the AA's Britains best B&B's and booked for 1 night. As soon as Janie greeted us we knew this was a special place and were not disappointed. We stayed in the hideaway, which is a separate building in the garden. It was amazing, the decor was WOW. The king size bed so comfortable, the bath a real treat to soak in and every conceivable luxury from fluffy towels, heaps of toiletries, candles, chocolates on the pillows and so much more.My absolute favourite touch was the wall of hearts, amazing. Janie asked us if we wanted to stay for dinner which we did. This was served in "The Shack'" a small intimate building in the garden complete with a log fire fairy lights, candles and you guessed it more hearts. The highlight wasa hot water bottle for your back as the weather was chilly (talk about attention to detail) Dinner was 3 courses and really lovely. You dine with the other guests, for us only one other couple and it's great to share stories.
Breakfast was fabulous, fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and a choice of cooked breakfast. Janies mum Alice also was there to help and was also very welcoming.
We loved it so much we booked for another night, we couldn't stay in the "Hideway" as it was booked but we stayed in the Garden room which also was beautifully decorated with all the luxuries but just smaller. We had supper again in "The Shack" fabulous I wanted to take my hot water bottle home.
So if you want a little piece of heaven in the country you can't go past "Lower Barn" it truly is outstanding.
So Thank you Janie for all your kindness, lovely food and hints and tips. Thank you also to your very special Mum Alice for our lovely chats. Lower Barn was like staying with old friends thank you again so much. I am now collecting hearts for my own heart wall,a little piece of Lower Barn in Australia !!

We stayed here last weekend and it was quite simply stunning. A bit tricky to get through - so follow the instructions on the website and not your sat nav !

The garden is fantastic and our room (the hideaway) was charming and completely unique. The attention to detail was incredible and we cannot wait to go back there - we simply would look anywhere else if we were exploring Cornwall !

The breakfasts were great too. Really fresh fruit salads, cereals, and huge portions of the cooked variety too.

Janie and Mike are really great hosts and they have a real gift for making people welcome to their unique and stunning corner of Cornwall. Can't wait to go back !

Room Tip: Book early !

Driving out in the countryside we wondered what kind a place we would come to - and the Lower Barn was truly the best place. It was beautiful, quiet, cosy and friendly. They opened up their home and even they was away one night they purchased all the barbeque food we could wish for, baked us a chocolate cake and let us feel like home. Great. The room are very nice, and the hayloft is very good for a family of five. To be recommended.
